This isn't an accurate representation of most large pig farms. Yes some are bad, but that isn't the case for he majority. Check out the videos by @familyfarmer if you want to see how most farms are run. Don't believe everything you hear.

It is vital to produce pigs at a fast rate no matter how they are treated. They produce a large portion of what we eat in America and around the world for that matter. if we were to stop and care about how they are treated the production rate would go down and there would be a shortage of food world wide.

Also, no matter how the animals are raised, they are still sent to slaughterhouses. They can't be sold in grocery stores without being killed in a usda regulated slaughterhouse, where the real abuse happens. I know people don't want to hear it, I know I didn't, but the truth is, we really have no nutritional requirement for meat. We can get all our protein, iron, B12, from plants. I know, meat tastes good. But that's just it....it's taste. If human babies tasted good would you eat them? The pigs themselves take energy to process beyond the energy that goes into their feed. And then there's refrigeration, including during transport, necessary for meat but not for grains and beans. @horseface13d Wonderful rationalization. 95% of ALL animals raised for meat in the US are raised in factory farms which use similar methods as shown here. It's so easy to pretend away the bad and imagine that all other animals die peacefully, but it's just not true. Slaughterhouses go by the profit motive, not by the consideration of the animals.
Keeping pigs indoors like the above video depicts is unfortunatly a necessity created by supermarkets and the general public wanting pork at such a low price. However the way pigs are kept indoors need not be carried out in such a negligent way as the farm on the video. The video shows a basic lack of stockmanship, and the workers on the farm should loose their jobs over the way the pigs are kept, no straw, dead pigs left to rot, dirty pens, it is the workers causing the cruelty not the system!

i have a pig farm but nothing like this we have 30 breading pigs and 4 males most are out side only time we bring pigs in if they are giving birth then we put the pig in to a crate for say like 4 days till it is right with giving birth because pig suffer from stress and giving birth to 10 - 18 pigglets in one night wold be a bit stress full then 6 days after they given birth they go back out to there pens and settle in with there new familys and they get fed realy good and lots of water
i work on a pig farm, and we seperate the sick ones so they dont get others sick, and we do give them food and water -- leave it to the people who dont eat meat to show the worst parts and not give all the details about it.
and we DONT leave dead pigs in the pens or finish-barns.. we take them outside till the end of the day then properly dispose of them.
Just because this one farm is bad doesnt mean you can condenm, all farms. My major is swine Management, and we pamper our pigs. They live and eat better than we do and get more baths, so dont say all farms are bad because of ones like these. Also pigs in the wild and domestic in a pasture will still chew on anything they can find..

I don't believe that this video is all that accurate but I do agree that this is no way to treat a living creature. Now this may seem a bit contradictory but this is the reason why I would prefer to hunt for my meat, reason is that even if I cause an animal to suffer for a short period of time with a bullet or arrow it is nothing compared to a lifetime of torture. In some cases an animal will die instantaneously if the bullet or arrow placement is in the right spot with little to no suffering.
I'm putting myself through college by working on a farm just like this. My job sucks, it doesn't pay jack, and my boss is a prick. I can honestly say I have absolutely no love for factory swine farms. So you can believe me when tell you this video is bullshit. It is manipulative and deceptive. It tells half-truths to portray an image inconsistent with the actual situation on hog farms.
I can't speak for every hog farm out there, because there are bad apples in every system, but in my experience, the pigs on factory farms are NOT mistreated. The pigs are fed well, have constant access to clean water, and given the best medical care if needed. They barns they are housed in use a very responsive thermostat to keep the temperature just where the sows like it year round.
Yes, the sows are in crates, but that is for the good of the animals as much as it is for practicality's sake. Pigs are violent creatures by nature. (They do not "go crazy" as the video suggests. Pigs do not have the mental capacity to "go crazy.") If left outside of the crates, the strong pigs single out the weakest ones and gnaw and chew on them to death. Mothers sit and lay on the young and do not get up even if the piglet is squealing its lungs. Trust me, the crates are a necessity.
The animals are not neglected in any way. The other employees and myself have a percentage of our paycheck docked for every sow or piglet that dies. We have an incentive to make sure no pig is suffering. Think about it. Abused animals can't produce as much of a profit. Its poor economics to let the pigs suffer and die from neglect. It only makes sense that a farmer would want all the animals to be taken care of as much as possible.

I worked at a pig farm in Creston, California and became a vegetarian during that time period. I heard their cries, and saw that they had eyes like human eyes with the iris and shape/colors being the same as human eyes....blue, hazel, green and brown. I was the only one with a strong enough stomach to remove the corpses. I was the only one with the resolve to change habits as a result. That was over 15 years ago and now my health is much better than other people my age. Interesting isn't it?

Also, no matter how the animals are raised, they are still sent to slaughterhouses. They can't be sold in grocery stores without being killed in a usda regulated slaughterhouse, where the real abuse happens. Free ranged or not, they are still beaten, stabbed, electric rods inserted into their anuses and eyes, scalded alive, sawed through alive, etc. Not to mention all the carcinogens and filth you consume from a toxic slaughterhouse. 10 billion land animals are killed every year, unnecessarily.

I know people don't want to hear it, I know I didn't, but the truth is, we really have no nutritional requirement for meat. We can get all our protein, iron, B12, from plants. I know, meat tastes good. But that's just it....it's taste. If human babies tasted good would you eat them? The reason we see animals as food is because A. it's forced on us on a daily basis, meat is EVERYWHERE, and they hide the slaughter from the public and B. we were raised that way. You don't have to agree, just think.

We shouldn't have to stop eating meat, but we should definitely cut down on the portion of how much meat we are eating. This pretty much happens because people just eat too much fucking meat everyday and companies are trying to keep up with this bullshit. I see some of my friends who won't touch a vegetable like its fucking diseased. Maybe if they eat the right portions, we wouldn't have this issue.

The pigs themselves take energy to process beyond the energy that goes into their feed. And then there's refrigeration, including during transport, necessary for meat but not for grains and beans. An incredibly inefficient process.
If you can't figure out how that's a problem, you aren't going to earn yourself any labels of intelligence. That's all.

It's so easy to pretend away the bad and imagine that all other animals die peacefully, but it's just not true. Slaughterhouses go by the profit motive, not by the consideration of the animals.

Keeping pigs indoors like the above video depicts is unfortunatly a necessity created by supermarkets and the general public wanting pork at such a low price. However the way pigs are kept indoors need not be carried out in such a negligent way as the farm on the video. The video shows a basic lack of stockmanship, and the workers on the farm should loose their jobs over the way the pigs are kept, no straw, dead pigs left to rot, dirty pens, it is the workers causing the cruelty not the system!

I don't feel this is right but I also feel that if we want to change anything we should be ready to about $15 - $20 per pond for meat. I mean if you where giving $3,000 and told you have to provide food for 10,000 people for 5 years would you have a small amont of pigs but in a great big space or o space but pack the pigs in there. Well if you want to get technical about it we have the technology to grow lifeless masses of pig meat with no head, no arms, no brains, no death....but that would cost a lot of money. And its cheaper to slaughter living things than it is to grow animal muscle in a lab. Until the day that become cheaper than slaughtering it will never happen. The American Veterinary Medical Association has carefully reviewed the literature on the use of gestation stalls and concluded "no one system is clearly better than others under all conditions and according to all criteria of animal welfare". As far as the sick pigs go, this is not typical husbandry for the majority of pig farms. Pig farmers check their animals daily and provide supportive care for those that become sick. i have a pig farm but nothing like this we have 30 breading pigs and 4 males most are out side only time we bring pigs in if they are giving birth then we put the pig in to a crate for say like 4 days till it is right with giving birth because pig suffer from stress and giving birth to 10 - 18 pigglets in one night wold be a bit stress full then 6 days after they given birth they go back out to there pens and settle in with there new familys and they get fed realy good and lots of water

i work on a pig farm, and we seperate the sick ones so they dont get others sick, and we do give them food and water -- leave it to the people who dont eat meat to show the worst parts and not give all the details about it.
and we DONT leave dead pigs in the pens or finish-barns.. we take them outside till the end of the day then properly dispose of them.

Just because this one farm is bad doesnt mean you can condenm, all farms. My major is swine Management, and we pamper our pigs. They live and eat better than we do and get more baths, so dont say all farms are bad because of ones like these. Also pigs in the wild and domestic in a pasture will still chew on anything they can find..

I don't believe that this video is all that accurate but I do agree that this is no way to treat a living creature. Now this may seem a bit contradictory but this is the reason why I would prefer to hunt for my meat, reason is that even if I cause an animal to suffer for a short period of time with a bullet or arrow it is nothing compared to a lifetime of torture. In some cases an animal will die instantaneously if the bullet or arrow placement is in the right spot with little to no suffering.

I'm putting myself through college by working on a farm just like this. My job sucks, it doesn't pay jack, and my boss is a prick. I can honestly say I have absolutely no love for factory swine farms. So you can believe me when tell you this video is bullshit. It is manipulative and deceptive. It tells half-truths to portray an image inconsistent with the actual situation on hog farms.

I can't speak for every hog farm out there, because there are bad apples in every system, but in my experience, the pigs on factory farms are NOT mistreated. The pigs are fed well, have constant access to clean water, and given the best medical care if needed. They barns they are housed in use a very responsive thermostat to keep the temperature just where the sows like it year round.

Yes, the sows are in crates, but that is for the good of the animals as much as it is for practicality's sake. Pigs are violent creatures by nature. (They do not "go crazy" as the video suggests. Pigs do not have the mental capacity to "go crazy.") If left outside of the crates, the strong pigs single out the weakest ones and gnaw and chew on them to death. Mothers sit and lay on the young and do not get up even if the piglet is squealing its lungs. Trust me, the crates are a necessity.

The animals are not neglected in any way. The other employees and myself have a percentage of our paycheck docked for every sow or piglet that dies. We have an incentive to make sure no pig is suffering. Think about it. Abused animals can't produce as much of a profit. Its poor economics to let the pigs suffer and die from neglect. It only makes sense that a farmer would want all the animals to be taken care of as much as possible.

I worked at a pig farm in Creston, California and became a vegetarian during that time period. I heard their cries, and saw that they had eyes like human eyes with the iris and shape/colors being the same as human eyes....blue, hazel, green and brown. I was the only one with a strong enough stomach to remove the corpses. I was the only one with the resolve to change habits as a result. That was over 15 years ago and now my health is much better than other people my age. Interesting isn't it?

Chicken give us eggs which we eat. Cows milk which we drink. And nature gives us vegetables. Why should we kill them?? Specially so cruelly. I think we would be a lot healthier without meat anyway. Meat isn't the only way to consume protein.

That's it. I just can't look away anymore. I'm done with commercial pork. I don't need a definition of torture to know it when I see it. We're dehumanizing ourselves by doing this. No excuse but "industrial efficiency" for this. This is Auschwitz for pigs. Looks like I'll have to be selective from now on if I remain a meat eater. The only way we can stop this is to stop buying pork from producers like this.
