The game came out in Europe recently and I wasn't impressed with it as the previous one. Not to say that I didn't enjoy it, it was very fun. But yea, the city being replaced with the map shouldn't bother too many people but I would have preferred driving around and exploring. I also don't like the way that there weren't any secret collectible like in the first one and the ones that appear in Travis's room don't feel quite as satisfying as you can't zoom in on them or anything.
Wait a second, did I hear you right? Did you say this game was influenced by Goemon? As in Goemon the Konami ninja?
You know, one thing I find kinda depressing about the game is its appeal. You said that it appeals to the middle schooler (well, the child that wanted TMNT to be more bloody and over the top), but many of those people won't be able to get the game because of the rating. Sure, there are those kids whose parents buy them GTAIV, but most kids won't be able to have that luxury. :(
What i like about no more heroes 2 is the fact the bosses are a challenge in this one. In the first no more heroes they were to easy even on bitter, except for Henry.
Henry was a bitch to beat on bitter. He took hardly any damage from your attacks and it took forever to defeat him on bitter. Not to mention you have to keep constantly dodging his one hit kill move.
What the hell are you talking about? It wouldn't have made much of a differense, and noone gave two shits about the SMS. Who do you think those minigames were appealing to?
I figure they are appealing to 80's gamers. Not just NES owners. NES wasn't so much an impressive system to me as much as it is an icon of the 80's. I realize most kids of the 80's had an NES so the logical strategy for NMH2 would be to cater to that flavor. I am just saying that although the NES look is cool and Iconic, the SMS look, sound, and gameplay is close enough to NES while providing a unique experience that Most gamers (NES owners) of the 80's should broaden their horizons with.
@anupsanju If it weren't for all the NES Nostaliholics pushing the NES onto the next generation like heroine junkies to an elementary school, that may appeal might not have been there. Time will tell how long NES Nostalgia holds out. Like Chris said, the minigames, in reality aren't Unbelievably awesome, there just there. There's probably 20 games from NES and 20 from SMS that Rocked in the 80's, I don't miss out on the 20 SMS, everyone else does because of the NES Fan Horde of old.
No, actually there are like 1000 great Famicom games, and 20 great SMS games. The SMS was worse than the NES in its amount of good games. There is no arguing against that.
@anupsanju Because the majority rules? Because more people owned and like the NES that automatically makes their choice a "fact?" no. you may think there are 1000 great games for NES, but I wager I have played as many as the next person and it is my opinion that there are 20 great rock'n NES games. Nostalgia Clouds everyones' favor.
Er, I never said that. I never owned an NES (or a SNES). I never played an NES. I've never seen an NES. How could nostalgia cloud me judgement? And there are way more than 20 good NES games. Nostalgia clouds your favor, maybe. Hell, even people who owned the SMS back in the day agree that the NES had a better library of games. Just because you say, durp, I think the NES had like 20 good games and so did the SMS, doesn't make it true for everybody else.
@anupsanju And? As I said, "Nostaliholics pushing the NES onto the next generation like heroine junkies to an elementary school" perhaps you are a victem of the gaming religeon. Also, I am not talking about good games, I am talking ROCK'N games. I bet that shaves off at least 2 or 3 off your 1000 game love-fest. I don't believe everyone who had an NES back then feels this way, but When I told a Girl my age that I grew up owning an SMS, she said, "You had a SEGA MASTER SYSTEM? You spoiled BRAT!"
Bottom-line, my original statement was already recalled by myself. I am glad they used NES drab graphics for their boring mini-games, this game deserves to flop on its face and I will not buy it. Period.
Realistically my desire to see SMS games enshrined in modern games like NMH2 would probably defeat the idea behind making the scaling and graphics crappier and funnier and more exaggerated than 80's graphics actually were. I get the idea that they were using poor visuals to add to the challenge and hilarity; in particularly Pizza Delivery...But you were right, they don't look like golden nuggets of Nostalgia once we get over the whole "HAHA I remember old games" first impression of them.
I Liked your shadow of the colossus comment at 2:15 I agree it would have made the game a lot less memorable and I agree that made the expereince of the first game that much better I will have to play this game later as a rental like I did the first game which was a lot of fun keep up the good work with your reviews.
Good review except that I'm surprised you didn't mention the game play for Henry or Shinobu. It's good to see that some of the bosses from the first game return in this one such as Destroyman and that big quake machine which you never got to fight in the first one because Henry took care of it. Well I guess you answered one of my questions then, so I'll have to replace it with something else. About this then, what do you think about Dear John beating Avatar at the box office last week?
I didn't want to drag on the review too long but I could probably do an entire second video that's just subjective commentary to some of the events that took place in this one. The play for Shinobu and especially Henry was way too short and I would have much preferred if you could pick for those missions who you wanted to play with, with different cut scenes for each.
Fighting Letz Shake finally was cool although I wasn't as impressed with the Destroyman cut scenes this time.
Yeah, I thought so. Well I guess you answered that one as well unless you want to talk more about it in one of your vlog videos. Oh, have you ever seen those terrible videogame cartoons such as Darkstalkers, Street Fighter 2, or Mortal Kombat?
minor nitpick for me...I wish that the lock on system had an ability to toggle. I lost a lot health to the fact I had to fight the lock on to the gun toting enemies when they appeared from behind me.
That's a good score, considering you. Although the game does have some soft areas, it's still pretty badass. It's like that performing rule, "Always leave them wanting more"
finally somebody sort of understands what i felt playing this game

I actually liked the script in this one better than the first game, but that's just me.

Yeah, it's sad, really. Travis went from dropping witty lines, to just flat-out calling people Shit and Fuck-faces.

Hey neverchris have you played the modern warfare games?
If so, what is your opinion on them do you think they are action master pieces or overated generic crap?

Just out of curiosity, what do you think of those games?

Just by listening to your review, I can always guess the exact number rating that you give before you even say it. Amazing how that works.

Yeah, there's a boss battle that reminded me of one from Mystical Ninja on N64 which I know was just a parody of oldschool robot anime.

Should have been SEGA MASTER SYSTEM type Mini-games, but Fan-boys of NES would probably seizure from the color increase.

NES has broader appeal than the SMS. That's why they made it NES style, because it could appeal to gamers who aren't even from the '80s.
