What a GREAT video - love this aircraft long may they fly. Just finished reading Philip Kaplans book "Fly Navy" and its a good book - gives a nice insight into naval aviation with the FAA and the USN over the years. One of the pilots who writes in it flys COD and she says "I wouldn't trade the C-2 community for any other".
Nice video....but you guys just don't know what it's like to fly a REAL COD-C1A. Hell when I was in 40 during the 70s, it was old then. Try a deck run on the LEX. Now that was fun.
@xplore30 Hey you were in when Lutz and Ingram were there. The last two guys I know was in 40. When did they change the squadron "patch" from Mercury shooting the bird at the carrier to the present one and why?
@TangosUniform I think you forgot the word TINY in your REAL COD statement. Should read REAL TINY. The C-2 is a heck of an aircraft, surpassing any version of the S-2.
@TangosUniform ..........I remember flying the C-1, I was assigned to VRC-40 in 1985 we decommissioned the last of them and brought in the C-2 during my tour........AMS3 Aherne
Thanx for the video Codguy75 brings back some great memories.......cheers
My dream job is to be a F18 pilot, but I'm thinking I don't qualify, haven't talked to my recruiter about it though, but if I do qualify to be any pilot except the fighter, this would be my first choice. Can't wait to leave for boot camp!!!
I was stationed at VR-24 at the Mech Shop. We flew the C2. It was a hell of a aircraft. I miss the C2 and the sound of the APU firing up on a warm summer morning, sending the crew off to the boat.....Those were the days.
You will never find a better ride at an amusement park than riding a COD to the deck on a stormy day. Rides at amusement parks don't come with barf bags. ;)
Thanks for the video. I flew in the COD with VR-24 as a planecaptain in the mid 70's. Brought back a lot of good memories. Wish she would get more attention than she does.
probably turning to dust in the desert At Davis Monthan now. Shout out to all my Cubi buds, great days, we roamed the skies from Adak to Perth/Buggz- AMS2/LM
Thanks for the video. I worked on them in VR-24 and then in VRC-40. Many memorable moments. Now I'm teaching and so happy I was able to find such a great resource to show to my kids what I used to do.
The COD!! My favorite plane!! I was stationed on the USS Eisenhower and had the pleasure of landing on, and being catapulted off of Ike in a COD. Great video -- thanks for posting it.
Nice vid, codguy75 - nice to see flicks of an aircraft that seldom gets a look-in. Have you flown the prowler too? Ex RAF guy here with his feet firmly on terra firma!
Hey stern666. Thanks for the comments. Never flew the prowler, but traditionally in the Navy, rumor was that if you excelled at carrier landings and there was a prowler spot to fill that week, you were getting them. Met a few RAF guys overseas and had fun at the pub seeing who was the better man! Cheers.
Great vid. Thanks for posting. Though much focus is placed on the jets and the Hawkeye, it's not common to see videos dedicated to CODs. This arrival of these planes on a carrier is quite often a welcome treat.... because of mail :) Kudos to the COD crews all over the world. Thanks.
Thanks. Glad you like it. Its a tough plane and landing it aboard the carrier was difficult. More difficult than any other I would argue, except for the EA6B prowler which is also a handful and of course the E2C Hawkeye, its sister plane.
Why put stupid loud music on these things. It makes you appear stupid, but then perhaps you are.

I was cated off the ship on one of those. The seats faced aft and when it shot it was liked getting kicked in the butt by a Missouri mule.

Does anyone know if the C-2 is air refuelable?
keithwilliamjoseph 1 year ago
@keithwilliamjoseph No they are not. There was one aircraft equipped with an IFR probe for testing, but it was removed after testing.
