1. I've seen cops go to jail for stuff. 2. I hate lying cops. 3. Cops kick the lights on and go through intersections a lot when a call is not "Priority" but they have to get there fast. In other words, it's not worth running 100+ for and putting others in danger, but they can't wait for every light. Now, that said, if a cop does that and pulls in to get a burger; it's crap and shouldn't. Most supervisors will doll out some discipline on them for that.
The problem is .. police think they are the military. They are however, the exact opposite. The military's objective is to preserve peace through the use of violence. They are the ones who see no problem sending your daughter to war in a combat zone but finds ways for their son not to go. They do go to jail for breaking the law. But you must understand that there is a issue call "color of law". Yes we (cops) do things the very things that you complain about. But there are times when we have to run lights, park in no parking zones or just get in and out of a store quickly. I am a hundred times more fearful of cops than I am of "criminals". Cops can ruin your life if you just breath wrong when they are having a crappy day or just a wild hair up their ass. They enforce crappy laws that were written for the sole reason of raking in revenue (e.g. seatbelt and DUI laws). Every time I get into my car I feel paranoid. I put on my seatbelt only to avoid a ticket for not having it buckled. Oh, and God forbid I ever answer my cell phone without a hands-free device!

I know of several cops and correctional officers who have gone to prison. It took alot but they are there for much or not all of their natural lives. It doesn't seem to help. I grew up around law enf but it didn't keep me from being abducted and raped by an ON DUTY OKC cop when I was 20 yrs old. He worked closely with a family member so I was terrified to ever speak of it, this is the first time. I went on to work in law enf believing that is how I would make a difference.

In 2008 in my home city of Altamonte Springs officer Mark Maupin of the ASPD was driving at 104mph down maitland blvd (where the posted speed limit varies from 45-50) with no sirens/flashers on and not responding to anything when he lost control of his cruiser and smashed into the rear end of a honda civic sending Erskin Bell into a coma. Maupin never appeared in court and was only charged with wreckless driving and no seatbelt.

That's what Common Law means. It applies only to common people. It was borrowed from English law but England was (and still is) a monarchy. Another concept that came from England was Sovereign Immunity (a King can do no wrong) which prevents you from suing state officials directly unless you can clearly prove Constitutional violation(s).

I thought a person was innocent until proven guilty, but here is an officer in court having word over the defendant (even though a high school education is the only thing needed most often). I've known some good Officers in my time who actually JUST do their job- but for everyone one decent hard working officer, there are at least 5 with a napoleon complex and who think that their job is described by a movie from the 80's where they can treat people like shit.

In other words, it's not worth running 100+ for and putting others in danger, but they can't wait for every light. 2/2 Your legislature are the ones who see fit to make laws that apply to YOU and not them. They are the ones who see no problem sending your daughter to war in a combat zone but finds ways for their son not to go. We as LEOS (the good ones at least) want to uphold freedoms of the American citizens. I am a hundred times more fearful of cops than I am of "criminals". Cops can ruin your life if you just breath wrong when they are having a crappy day or just a wild hair up their ass. They enforce crappy laws that were written for the sole reason of raking in revenue (e.g. seatbelt and DUI laws). Every time I get into my car I feel paranoid. I put on my seatbelt only to avoid a ticket for not having it buckled. Oh, and God forbid I ever answer my cell phone without a hands-free device!

No competitive incentive for their employer to hold them accountable. What are we going to do? Give our business to their competitor? No, we are forced to pay for their service no matter what. I know of several cops and correctional officers who have gone to prison. It took alot but they are there for much or not all of their natural lives. It doesn't seem to help. I grew up around law enf but it didn't keep me from being abducted and raped by an ON DUTY OKC cop when I was 20 yrs old. He worked closely with a family member so I was terrified to ever speak of it, this is the first time. I went on to work in law enf believing that is how I would make a difference.

I watched a video of a cop beating a girl in jail for some reason unknown and he gets away with it. All together this girl must have weighed like 100 puonds compared to the cops 200 and something pounds. That cop was suspended, not put behind bars like he should have been. .

I knew many bright young men who went into the force,promising themselves they will never be subjected to harassment,and vowing not to enforce the arbitrary quotas.They all degenerated.
That said,there are some cops who saved lives,stood up for justice,and made fair calls,even when they were vilified for doing this because they went against the blue.

I've lived my whole life in Florida, a notorious police state. In 2008 in my home city of Altamonte Springs officer Mark Maupin of the ASPD was driving at 104mph down maitland blvd (where the posted speed limit varies from 45-50) with no sirens/flashers on and not responding to anything when he lost control of his cruiser and smashed into the rear end of a honda civic sending Erskin Bell into a coma. Maupin never appeared in court and was only charged with wreckless driving and no seatbelt.

That's what Common Law means. It applies only to common people. It was borrowed from English law but England was (and still is) a monarchy. Another concept that came from England was Sovereign Immunity (a King can do no wrong) which prevents you from suing state officials directly unless you can clearly prove Constitutional violation(s).
