It wasn't as much live orchestration as you may think. The album has a more electronic sound more than anything. The "live orchestration" you're refereing to are more of riffs and licks that are recorded and resampled to be layed out over the track. And if you really want to get into producer history, you need to read up on Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, Babyface, Teddy Riley, & Dark Child aka Rodney Jerkins.
