  • damn!!!!!!! why couldn't he live near me when i was growing up. i would go see him as my doctor just because he was david lee roth's dad!!!!!!! holy shit, you are DLR's dad!!!!!!!!!!! man, he would think i was as crazy as his son.

  • Is his dad still alive?

  • DLR's dad? I'm surprised he didn't start the interview, by jumping up and saying "Zippity zappity bippity boo!!" and dancing around like a jackass.

  • Wow, I never knew any of this. Very cool.

  • What an amazing man Dr ROTH was...Physician/Eye Surgeon, Writer, Actor, Father, Businessman...he is a model for all men to follow..he is an example of success..

  • see..jews are smarter...dr. roth bankrolled VH to start...

  • So Dave is a spoiled rich kid? Shocker. BUT, Eddie said the main reason Dave was in the band (in the beginning) was because Dave actually had a PA system. Life makes sense again. Still the best VH lineup, imo.

  • @onetime504 correction Michael Anthony had the P.A.

  • @davedundee we can have a pissing contest(no thanks) - but I recall Eddie once said in an interview that they were renting the PA from Roth, and said 'eff it, it'll be cheaper to let him sing - then we can still rent out his PA and use the money for the band'. There's a chance I'm wrong on that. Cheers

  • @onetime504 You're correct. Ed and Alex had formed a three piece band called "Mammoth" with a bass player named Mark Stone. Eddie had to sing lead and they rented their P.A. system for $35 a night from Dave, even though they were only getting about $50 a gig.

  • @onetime504 Another reason they got Dave in the band (from interviews) was - Alex liked Dave’s confidence and Ed disliked being the frontman.

  • This video is priceless, thank you !

  • Dr. Roth was a good men, back in van halen breakup with dave he even tried to patch things up with van halen to put Dave back in the band, I wish he would succeed.......

"It does't matter if you win or lost, it how good you look" 1982 David Lee Roth

"I perceive of myself more as a Tarzan than a singer anyway." 1983 David Lee Roth

Thank you for uploading and sharing it to the world of YouTube

  • @eugvh18 --- 99.9% of all fathers tell their sons to stop wasting their lives chasing a dream about being a rock star and get a real job.....but Dr. Roth encouraged Dave and let VH practice in the basement of his huge mansion when they were a rising club band in LA.....gotta admire that about Dr. Nate ---- HE HAD THE COURAGE TO BELIEVE IN A DREAM

  • @Hunkola For rea! What a family of achievers, too.

  • @Hunkola

Well yeah, it's easy to encourage a kid to be a rockstar when you truly think they could be one. What if you had a stupid kid who sat around dreaming all day, wasn't good at singing(had an annoying ass voice,) and couldn't play an instrument for shit?

  • @eugvh18 wish i had dad like that

  • 14,000 sq feet! that was amazing as a true VH fan , thanks 4 uploading

  • There`s three rings in marriage...... engagement ring, wedding ring, and suffering. -David Lee Roth.

  • Its all about education kids. This is a well educated man, educated his son, and Dave went on to be the "brains , frontman and salesman " of Van Halen. Its funny how guys like Ed and Al or Peter and Ace were touted as the " heart " or " engine" of their respective bands. An engine never made another engine run, but a good set of sparkplugs can do the trick for both. Entertainment is not magic . Its BUSINESS !

  • @cobias Well said, Sir. Bells and whistles, bells and whistles.---He who knows how, will always work for he who knows why.--DLR

  • Diamond Dave was bar mitzvahed?? Never realized he was a practising Jew.

  • @EzrinJem2 no man he gave up his jewish faith for hinduism which is why now his nose looks like it takes up his whole head

  • Might have been interesting to include the fact that his brother was none other than Manny Roth who founded the landmark Greenwich Village club The Cafe WHA? in the late 50's.

  • @danboy524 Careful, your wealth-envy is showing, right along with your ignorance. Dave has "worked an honest day with his hands". He's spoken many times about the hospital janitorial job he held in his late teens/early 20s, which entailed cleaning up operating rooms (specifically medical waste). Later in his life he studied to become an EMT in New York and became certified and went out on runs as part of the training and afterwards. He keeps his training and certification current, too.

  • @danboy524 you might have a point there...............but one he is so sure of himself that he wouldnd even hear if you told that to his face and "b" we are not talking about Sting here, this dude didn't descend from the lime light, he plummeted, if he has any notoriety now its because he has been very patient and you would not know it but I would even say humble crawling his way back up. He sure is disciplined, he is 56 and can handle a concert work load.........and that is no easy task.

  • @contact1araya I gotta agree with you here, but as the son of a wealthy eye surgeon, D's start in life was hardly auspicious. When fame found him tho he wasnt living in a 2 room cold water apartment. His fall was pretty drastic, but he seems to have found his feet touring (not that he ever lost them) again with VH, however his whole attitude has changed from outrageous to out of sight.... I'm thinking a gag order from EVH on the promise of tours recordings and fame (again)??

  • @contact1araya Just for the record , hes one of the very very few that had a pretty damn good solo carear after being in a world renowned band , gees jaggar, tyler, plant,? bon jovi? . Bar sting ozzy , phil collins , theres not many is there? Dave had some great solo stuff , grunge killed off most bands at that time . VAN HALEN wld never had been as big if there was no ROTH fact

  • I used to work for a living... and I'll never forget it.

    -David Lee Roth

  • I am eternally grateful for this post....interesting to see what Diamond Daves Dad looked like ..... Dave's got the first house now ...'Rothwood'??? did well for a guy who studied medicine on the GI Bill.... been dying to see this for ages...thanx Hunkola!!

  • @dropdeadlegs1954 The Van Halen brothers did better(as for raw talent), came from poverty all the way from Holland to change the entire music world, and Eddie himself revolutionize modern rock guitar playing as we all know.

  • Hunkola, just found out you uploaded this. Awesome, dude. Thanks!

  • What's up dude?
