Yup, seven-string bass viol. I'm not sure by which maker...probably could look that up if you were interested.

If this is the viol he usually uses, it's a late 17th Century instrument attributed to Nicolas Bertrand.

@direngrey2143 This is true. I just saw him in concert and asked him about his viol. He stated that he bought it in London, but the instrument has no label. It is thought to have been made by Bertrand.
