  • Mitico James! :)

  • I've been.in love with him since I was about 7yrs old, I'm 15(:

  • I'm 15 and I love this song, James Taylor is one of the best artist's out there

  • My wife loved this man. I didn't get it until she passed away at 50 with Cancer. There is just something serene about it and i'm glad she introduced me to it.

  • My dad used to sing this song to me when I was young. With me being in college, I asked him to record it for me. I have it posted on my channel if you guys want to check it out and give me some feedback. I'm hoping to post some more covers as well as original songs that my dad wrote (some of them roger allen wade wanted to record). Production will be slow (being away from home) but I'll try and post as much as I can.

  • Remarkable how James' voice is STILL GREAT. This is almost a miracle, reallly, because the vocal cords wear out. Witness greats such as Baez and Mitchell: Their voices are shot. James is blessed.

  • James Taylor gang or die.

  • Ahhhh I love this song !

  • James Taylor's voice has aged like fine wine. I almost forgot how much I love James Taylor and how amazing this song is. His voice touches heaven :)

  • When I listen to this song I want to put my hand on his cheek ....... and just look in his eyes.

  • He looked like Steve Jobs :) Two masters!

  • makes me think about a time when America was in turmoil and split nearly in two

and a young women who I loved with heart and soul...

May she rest always in peace.

  • i have heard this song for the past 40 years, and each and every time I hear it, it always takes me back to the very first time my ears hear it. I remember where I was, who was with me, and the way the sun felt that day, what a great day that was, sitting with my friends, at the lakewood mall, eatting a cookie, while sitting in my friends 1968 chevey, George, who is not with us anymore..

  • My mum sung this song to me every single night. I can't relate enough to this song, I just hope everyone realizes the true power of its lyrics. :)

  • @4everrjumper i used to sing this to my 2 boys. after "old man" and "the cowboy song" they'd be asleep.every time. pure musical and lyrical magic. i'm crying now thinking of that time and their innocence. i'm pretty sure they are responsible for most of the hits on my version. cheers.

  • This song is one of the best i have heard............................ By the way, im only 13 years old :D its better than the crap they play now

  • @dillonmiranda6 Don't judge music by their time periods, its only a way to keep track of them. Judge them on their own merit.

  • @dillonmiranda6 you are AWESOME

  • Hey, you're a great guy! And you're right, it's better than so many "songs" we hear everyday. I love this song!

  • My friend james recently died at the young age of 18, and this song was played at his funeral, an incredible song to describe and incredible boy

  • Dedicated today to Jamie Smith, my brother of years gone by. May your sweet music carry on in our hearts as we say goodbye.

  • Great song by James Taylor, Try the Tom Rush version and you'll hear greatness!!!

  • Little Cattle Dogs running around - frolicking......being who they are....little four-legged sweet angels....

  • cant imagine anything better

  • Thanks for the music James!

  • His best tune, I think. I can just see the sage brush and old farmhouses, and hear the coyotes, as I listen to this song. This is the soul of America, in music. So few artists can capture that feeling.

  • Why is it only 3 minutes 22 seconds long?!

  • I understand what you mean @09Beck ... my uncle used to play this for me.. i can be so stressed out because of college, or family issues and i'll just turn this on and instantaneously be okay. <3 love sweet baby james. i wish there was more music and performers like this now.

  • i sure do wish tihs guy would sing my songs...check them out...hed be wicked...

  • My Dad used to sing this to me whenever I cried. I love it so much! It gives me chills :D

  • I named my sweet baby James after this song. I lost him a year later.

  • @heartless567 so sorry for the loss of your sweet baby!

  • This guitar sounds soooooo sweet;perhaps it should sound half decent at nearly $20000.

  • everyone knows JT through their fathers!! james taylor not justin tiberland or whatever his name is haha

  • This song was the lullaby of choice for my father. As for many other people... Somehow even though so many people share the same experience, it's still one of my favorite memories with my father. I'm sure many of you feel the same way. :)

  • Fuck Facebook!!

  • @bostown same here...was born in 90 and im james land!!! and my mothers favorite singer was Mr. James Taylor

  • Just played it in the office and everyone went quiet. We all have memories connected with this guy. My own kids know all the songs. Pass it on!

  • legend,Poet,Bard.

  • have seen him live twice..warm summer nights...are the melody of his voice across the crowd where it makes you feel like just you and his music...amazing memories....

  • Pure class,

  • James Taylor is an authentic artist and true lyricist. He is a pure gift to the world.

  • If a soul can take voice it has done so in this work. A turning point,a nexus where all that is music flows without obstruction. I speak with the voice of one who has seen and done...there is no better muse for our voice than JT and the poetry of Plath. It holds the suffering and loving in understanding arms.

  • @sober2day1000 beautifully stated.

  • One of my all time favorites. Remember when it came out like yesterday.

  • Magnifique, Wonderful, preciosa voz llena de poesia y ternura. Quel merveille!!!

  • Beautiful voice.

  • My son James was born about when this song was written, June 19 1972.

The only son of Mary Queen of Scots was called Baby James because she was forced to abdicate and separate from him. He eventually became King of England and Scotland. He was born June 19, 1556

  • Next to Bob Ross he has the most southing voice ever

  • seen him in glasgow 17yr ago but ... 1 thing he was even better than his records,, 1 of best artists ive heard live,,, lov him ,,, rock on james x x x

  • It really is amazing how his voice has held up so well. He just keeps getting better. His last several albums are even better than his early ones, in my opinion.

  • the voice never changes

  • I was lucky to see JT perform at close range at one of his free Obama concerts. He was just amazing. And his voice is still a fantastic instrument, not much different from 35 years ago, maybe better.

  • Let me go down in my dreams. love it.

  • haha really, someone disliked this? Why? lol... I mean just why? lol Must've missed!

  • nothing like the sound of that olson guitar..

  • "ol' stringbean's" music will live on long after he does.

  • Crashing with memories of the greatest decade in music, the 70's.

  • theres always one really annoying kid who comments on songs like this saying "im 15 years old and i love this song!" and i never understood why age had anything to do with it lol. i loved this song at 15 as well and i never advertised my age when i spoke of it.

  • @rad3666 lol I'm 97 years old, and I love this song!!!

  • My dad used to rock me to sleep to this song <3

  • paralyzing voice. shocks me stone cold still and i can do nothing but be awestruck. both mr. taylor and his clear, perfect voice are such a gift to us all. some moments and things in life are incomparable and just must be amazed over...and cherished...and brought out from time to time to be remembered with joy.

  • he was from the 1900's and am from the late 80's.. truly his music is the language of his soul and his voice is from heaven's melody not from the noise and shouting from hell.... you maybe old but your music stay fresh forever and ever....

  • Rap and Lady Gaga and Taylor Swift may get much more attention and money, but this has my respect. The talent needed for one to simply take a guitar and sing and produce something so profoundly beautiful as this is so rare, so SO rare. There are no tricks here, just man-made magic. And, to me, when you add into the mix Mr. Taylor's personal struggles, it makes it even more amazing.

  • @Stoneman87x People who recognize REAL music and not that utter garbage which passes for "music" of the "artists" you mention will be listening to JT's music long after they are completely forgotten, about 2 years from now. RAP is NOT MUSIC, it is unsyncopated, mind numbing, utterly no talent NOISE.

  • @southernrockdrummer

i love rap, theres nothing wrong with a good beat and some poetry from someone hows had a ruff life ... JT is good music ,, but i believe theres good music of all different types ...... if its a good song then i dont care what type of music it is as long as it moves me....... but Ya i love Rap but i dont have tunnel vision when it comes to a good music

  • @aetlcf fair play ... good is good !

  • @aetlcf I'm right there with you. Good music is good music. Don't have to be technical with genres.

  • @aetlcf Good on ya, Southernrockdrummer, you've got an open mind when it comes to music...

  • @aetlcf haha. look at his recent activity. what a change

  • I saw James in Sydney during the eighties, he was great. Waddy Wachtel and Leyland Sklar were in the band. It was a real treat, seeing James was amazing but to have those other two on stage with him as well made for a special night.

  • Not a fan of all his stuff, but I've always loved this song. Such a pure sound then and now.

  • James Taylor is magic

  • what a master! his voice is his instroment. he sounds the same! his voice has not changed....pure, clear...it is what is IS. Love JT!

  • @cptlaneway When I first heard this voice I was 19. I am now 59 and realize it has not lost a beat. I thought James was given the voice of one of the angels the first time I was blessed to hear it; I still feel he has one of maybe 3 of the best male voices EVER! Doesn't matter who the other 2 are; just enjoy the sound of angels singing right now.

  • a lot of black people love james taylor...he's cool....just too soft for my taste...

  • @Kellogs43able Not soft... soothing. You don't have to shout to make your point, and quiet doesn't mean weak, it means confident

  • @1965angel1965 i wrote a poem about james taylor and i got it published....so he was good for something...lol

  • woot i was like 1900!! how can you not like this? someone answer that question for me please.

  • @capnickmorgan he is from the 1900's and am from the late 80's his music is really a language for his soul, a voice from heaven's melody and not from the noise and shouting from hell... you may be old but your voice will stay fresh forever....

  • Can we stop complaining about the number of dislikes?

Does it really matter? It's not like it reduces the quality of the music..

they may well have been clicked acidentally, sheesh.

    awesome song though.

  • This song put all 3 of my children to sleep each night when they were babies. :)

  • This song reminds me of my late father. He was a stoic man with little outward feeling for his only daughter, but I remember him sitting on the floor of the living room one Saturday summer afternoon listening to this song on an old record player with a sweet nostalgic smile on his face. So I thank you Mr. Taylor for your gift of music and giving me one of the few truly happy memories of my father.

  • When did STEVE JOBS start to play guitar?? did he quit apple??

  • I love this so much :) my dad used to play this and sing on his guitar every-once in awhile while me and my siblings were put to bed. Now i like to relax to a joint and think of how i will see it to my kids

  • My Dad used to pick me up and sing me this song every night when he got home from work. My parents say it was the only thing that could calm me down. Every time i hear this song i still think of that. This song could mean more to me than any other song i will ever hear.

  • @09EBeck

I have a 10mth old little girl. I sing this to her everynight i put her to sleep. works everytime. we fall asleep together :D

  • @simonhdenis that is so cute

  • @09EBeck same here bro if i was crying he would sing this and make me stop

  • @09EBeck That is so sweet. Thanks for sharing that story. :)

  • @1980RockGirl It is without a doubt my favorite memory of my childhood.

  • @09EBeck You had good parents.

  • @09EBeck it's such a beautiful song, don't ever forget that memory! :)

  • I find myself singing this song a lot...I -3 it sooo much.

  • wow

  • Been a fan for 30+ years, he's not let me down yet. Such a great voice, loved his duet with Mark Knoffler

  • @patsyod Duet with mark knofler......id love to hear that

  • "If you don't think drugs have done good things,go home and throw out all of your albums and c.d.'s...'cause most of those guys when they created their music, reeaalllyyy high on drugs. I mean, the beatles let Ringo sing on a few songs !!.." Bill Hicks

  • why would 30 people click on this song to dislike it?

  • Majestic!

  • Im 20 years old and I can relate to every song!! I really need to see him on his tour

  • just a terrific words thus artist !!

  • If it takes drugged out heroin addicts to write music like this , then we sure need more heroin addicts , because the idiots making music today can't come close to this stuff ,

  • So much hate on the dislikes. People are entitled to their own opinions, so why the negative vibes? The dislikes are mostly just trolls anyway. Besides, what do you care what other people think? We know this music is great.

  • If this is not the most beautiful song ever written, well, you can see it from here.

  • I love this song, when i was little, my mommy sang this to me.. i never see her now so its good to hear this, reminds me of the good times! <3

  • a brilliant song! and guys dont worry about the dislikes, they just show that its human beings that are liking and disliking videos.

  • 30 dislikes? 30 commie bastards, must be, because if you cannot feel and share in the sheer storytelling and melodic genius that is JT, especially in this song about his newborn nephew, you suck and should just stick to listening to the shitty top 10 on the radio, because they will soon be forgotten, unlike this musical giant. His voice and his master of the singer songwriter guitar style combined with his lyrics make him impossible to hate on. Just ask the 1770 plus.

  • Story telling at its finest.

  • @maninblack767 I couldn't agree more. The 1970's was a very interesting era of time.

  • Pintorwha, thank you for writing the truth . Magic is Taylor's music .

  • .....grew up.....with the songs..... i guess i am going to grow old with them....

  • I saw James at red rocks and it was the most fantastic concert I have ever been too. James is a poet and a musician of rarely surpassed quality. He is surely one of the greats

  • Where is the music like this today? This is way before my time as I was born in 81, but growing up on the farm and in a small town I can say I have respect for those who live and to those who give. This is what the world needs, to have a puff and sit and think about what is going on with the nation. GOD=You & ME_Friendship

    GOD=You&ME+WEED=PEACE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @webbster92

I agree, the only thing i dislike here is 30 people and their dislikes. though i almost feel sorry for them, tone deafness is real and these thumbs down prove it.

  • mmmmm :)

  • i have a problem with 30 people.

  • his voice sounds exactly the same as when he was young! how is that possible?!

  • @britelite18 I would almost say that his voice has gotten *better*. It's smoother and less nasal than he was when he was young.

  • somone please make a studio version of this, there is not ONE studio version on youtube how is that possible?

  • Lol? He is so fag*ot!

  • @famas053 There's a saying I know. ''It takes one to know one''

  • this is my favorite version, his voice sounds so smooth.

  • I'd never seen/heard him do a live version of this song b/4...now I know how he earned his monikor, "Sweet Baby James" how cool would have been to see & hear this stuff when it was HAPPENING way back when? rock On Sweet baby james

  • i always wanted to name my son James but i never had any children.my sister named her son James

  • They played this song at my friend's funeral. I already loved this song but now the emotional connection is much stronger. I tear up a little every time I hear it. RIP Jimmy, you were an amazing friend and I'll never forget you.

  • @chico95 music can both soothe the soul and wreck you at the same time, it's amazing how powerful it is when someone can express a feeling you are holding within with a song.

  • myspace is awesome!

  • amazing song writing ability, real talent personified

  • I LOVE this man...such a talent

  • RIP Braxton Charles Shiplett

  • my daughter an dI sang this song on her way to kindergarten,, it will always have a special place in my heart and memory
