I've been afriad of needles since forever. looking at the needle before it gets injected in the skin is scary. i "try to look away but once that needle is in. I burst into tears. Im like in my 20s now.

I am 16 male and cannot take any kind of needle. Worst part is... I'm due for a blood test Tommorow and my heart is pounding like crazy already. I'm shaking and the anxiety is tearing me up. I just don't know why it's such a big deal for me to get a blood test. I dont think it's the pain, but more the feeling and happening of a skinny metal needle poking through your skin to your vein. Last time I had blood work done I passed out right after. I don't know what I'm going to do

I have 2 full tattoo sleeves, but yet if I see a hypodermic needle i freek the hell out ... i cant even watch them on the TV! If I absolutly HAVE TO have an injection, I CANNOT look when it coming, and i sweat and tense my whole body like crazy and go into almost like a trance state ... weird right?

I know what you mean. I've got 6 piercings and still counting more and everytime I know I have to get a shot at the doctor/dentist's office I go into a real nervous breakdown. I don't even have to be in the office to be scared. I could even be sitting here right now thinking about nothing but needles. As for the trance state, it could just be because your body is so overwhelmed that it doesn't know how else to react.

i don't know why i am scared of needles, i was going to put a joke, but i'm realy scared of them, they hurt, they stab you, and, i just don't like getting stabbed! when i was 10 or 11, i had to have six nurses, the doctor, and my mom hold me down just so they could help me, but i don't like needles. <:(

I have had fear of needles for long as I can remember. In my childhood my mother was a hypochondriac and took me to the doctor many times. I must have had numerous injections at that time but I have blocked out all memory of that. In the last 31 years I have only had a blood draw twice. Once at age 14 and at age 19. I do not know how I went through it at that time. Now at age 45 I could not imagine having my blood drawn. I understand this is irrational. I do not know how to overcome this fear.

I have extreme needle phobia that I actually avoid medical care/treatment. I had to have surgery 7 years ago and I made my doctor put me to sleep with a gas mask instead of an IV. hi, im 15 and i had a major fear of needle and most of that fear was because of the prick. so my mom got me some Emla patches and you just put it on your arm an hour before the test then when it comes to the blood tests, you just take off the patch and your arm is numb so you cant feel the prick at all. I still cant look at the needle but i can now have blood tests without people haveing to hold me down. they really do work

Believe it or not, technology has improved the practice of injections. They take a matter of a few seconds, LITERALLY, and you have to focus intently to even know when the needle touches you.

I have a severe, SEVERE anxiety disorder regarding injections and blood draws, but the improvements in needles and syringes over the past several years have made it so that I didn't even feel ANYTHING. NOTHING!

The anxiety beforehand is the only horrible part of it, so go get those life saving tests done!

I had a blood test today and have a horrid fear of needles. They extracted the blood and I thought I was fine. Then everything went black and next thing I know I am being held into a chair by three nurses. No matter what mind frame I am in or attitude I just can't get over it. God forbid I ever have to have major surgery.

I have been a nurse for 3 years and after a student walked behind me with a used needle pointing at me very close, that triggered a needle phobia. I developed a blood phobia after i found a paper cut on my finger after i got blood on it from a patient.

I tried in both situations to think straight and say that no i didnt get pricked but the fear reaction just turned on, and i ended up having a panic attack later on.

I havent worked since April 25th and still no closer. Its ruined my life.

To everybody out there who're scared of needles: I'm the Nervous Nellie type, myself. If you can find somebody who'll do it right (such as with flue shots), you hardly feel anything at all. Maybe a mild itch or irritation, but that's all. Note: The key word in that last sentence is "mild".

@UrBeX55 Read my response if it is that bad you can black out and still you will not be able to take the needle. I was given 5 by my doctor, and she stopped trying to give me the needle when i would try to grab the needle even though I was under 5 Valium. Last time I had a needle in me I was about 16 I had to be strapped down, and according to medical pros, only will make it worse. Good luck bro!

I blame it on my parents. When I was very young, they left me with the doctor although I told them to stay. I was so afraid, I always cried until I was 9. Now the fear to die is bigger than my fear of needles. If it wasn't for this horribly long waiting period in the practice before you get the shot, I would be okay. It's horrible!

i just got my wisdom teeth out last week. i HATE needles. its alot easier to close your eyes. if they give you the gas it helps alot with the anxiety, ask them when your in there if there not going to then request it , just tell them you have anxiety, they also put numbing paste on your gums. the best part of novacain is that it does kinda suck when a needle goes in your mouth but a second later you cant feel crap, around the third injection, unless u move your tounge you dont even kno its there

dental needles are not as bad as other ones... my advice: shut ur eyes and just squeeze something tight... as soon as it goes in you will be starting to get numb so it won't hurt after that... good luck bebe! <3

@UpgradedWorld Trust me I know of a support group, where a girl there lost here baby cause she could not get the needle. We normally would get medical treatment with out any aesthetic (try getting teeth pulled that way not fun). I got amoebicolitis in Nicaragua and there is a good possibility that it may destroy my liver in the future unless I get tested and treated. It is not a rational fear. Look it up. There have been 13-14 documented deaths over shock it causes. Hypno may work, hasnt for me

Best advice is to do a local internet search for a practitioner of NLP and/or a good hypnotherapist who is experienced in getting rid of someone's fear of needles. We have a number of people worldwide who can help with this but you may well find someone who is not part of our team but is more local and therefore more convenient for you. Needle phobia can be overcome by someone who knows what they are doing, and usually the process takes just one session. Good luck and thanks for your comment.
