Most of this fancy sh!t is for people who cant be bothered to learn to drive. For example, the throttle blip function is easily done with the heel-toe pedal operation. Not rolling back requires you to know where your friction point is *gasp*, and why the duece would you need something to tell you when to shift when your going round a corner.

E36 M3's had SMG1.

E46 M3's had SMG2.

wow quite incorrect. ALL smgs were E46 M3 - nothing older. SMG2 was late model year 04+

SMG 2 was released on the E46 M3. SMG 1 was on some E36 M3s only.

Cousin got 1996 E36 M3 with SMG but im sure they call it SSG for the E36. My E46 M3 which is on a 53 plate has SMG2 and i SMG was out before 2004.

e46 mid to late 2002 models the difference is the paddles .smg2= left is - down shift right paddle is + up shift . on smg 1 it was push or pull on both sides
