Piracy isn't a legal issue it's a service issue. Nobody wants to spend $20 on a CD that only has one good song. Nobody wants to buy a DRM MP3 that they can't put on any other device.
Make a distribution system that is CONVENIENT and AFFORDABLE and people will give you their money. Look at iTunes, Steam, Pandora, Netflix, Hulu.. they are all successful distribution systems.

This is how I see piracy. The great majority of people who pirate are people who cannot afford it or can't get it through conventional means. Aka, a poor person with a PC, a teenager without a credit card, a person trying to get a song that is NOT available in his country for sale (I couldn't find the Apocalyptica album "Path" legally in the US for the life of me! It was only being sold in EU digital stores). So, these people were not going to buy it anyways. This way at least you get free ad.
