Does anyone have any suggestions on the best way to teach my blind daughter how to play/get familiar with the piano without visual tools? She is currently receiving pre-exposure to Braille; not sure if that helps with reading music notation.
its getting them to read thats the most difficult part, most children are hardcore when it comes to identifying patterns and shapes. my little girl is nearly 2 and she can show me A, C or E in any octave :)
As a fellow piano teacher who just got a 3 year old student I have been doing a lot of research on how to work with the students. It's been very hard because my student can't count to 5, or know her alphabet at all. This is an interesting idea that I will have to look into.
I especially like the sideways staff. I think that's a fantastic idea. I'll have to implement that into my teaching.
Nightfall6....brainwashing!!!!...Are you kidding me??!!!...What would you suggest? I know let's adhere to the norm of putting the kids in front of a tv for hours on end.....I'm sure there's no brainwashing there...I'm sure the violence etc that they're exposed to on tv has absolutely no impact on the people these kids grow up to be. If more parents enrolled their children in activities such as music, where they're actually learning something...this world would be a MUCH better place.
music is a wonder.. brainwash a child, thats just a ignorant comment. a child will always have there childhood. a few lessons a day will not change that. in fact in studies using music and sharing teachings such as this just a few minutes a day will enhance a child's learning experience. so in the future they don't make ignorant comments about things they do not know and understand.
You will need Soft Way to Mozart software, an electric piano keyboard or digital piano, and a USB MIDI interface to connect the piano to computer. Sometimes the piano provides a direct USB connection to computer. With the software you will receive piano stickers.
Our site has a lot of articles and video about our method and how to learn piano.
3 year old children won't do anything, if they don't like to do it.
But development of music mind as well as fine motor skills is a big plus for brain development, cognitive and spacial thinking, that they would promote overall intellegence development and academic success in future
Please, provide me with video examples of 3 year old kids reading 'normal' notes and speed the songs on paper.
Also I would appreciate if you send me links to the teaching approaches, when teachers are using novels like 'War and piece' for teaching kids how to read.
OK, I'll try to explain another way: music - is a language of multiple sounds. Our fingers only can produce such language properly (not our voice or one voice instrument). Coordination of fingers and hands is essentual in music making like vocal chords in speech.
My 'useless' experience here presented in 61 videos and endorsed by Moscow and Madrid State Music universities, books and articles published globaly. Please, stop jumping to conclusions. This blog for your benefit
You are absolutely right by saying that 'A child learns a language by listening first, then copying, then when they can talk they learn how to read it.' But in music language 'vocal chords' is in fact coordination. We developed a system, that simplifies notation, support focus and let beginners to develop coordination first. Please, watch other videos for reference
There is far to much visually for the child to make this work musically. You have no method and are obviosly doing it for your own gratification. You could get serious and read a book or two.
When 3-year-old child is bored to tears, he/she won't cooperate at all. There were no tears, but later at the recital she was proud to perform the piece all by herself in front of many people. Such an achievement!
Young students love to do something with their own hands and it is vitally important for their brain development and future academic success.
We don't demand from toddlers walk like balerinas and give them chance to perfect their coordination naturally. Same with musc making.
As good as a child reading abc-books with a lots of pictures and large letters. We don't forse 3 year old child to read novels - why should we force them to read original music score with 10+ lines and 11 spaces?

You might like(well, the kid might like :) Klavarskribo. It's got vertical staffs, which look a bit odd, but they represent the keyboard very well.

Probably the most unmusical teaching I have ever seen in 25 years. Hand position and fingering unbeliveably poor and the kid looks bored to tears.
