  • Lovely joyful Tribagonian expression!

  • Maravilloso..genial...

  • Came here from Mr Roger's neighborhood..

  • Expanding the repertoire of pan, a great thing, and so proactive.

  • I must confess, after 33 years in the Pan Fraternity, I'm still baffled as to why the "Mozart of Pan" just can't seem to get the sweetness coming out of the instrument like Robbie. No disrespect meant to Boogsie though.

  • i love the dynamics of this solo its sounds mystic and yet it also sounds happy i dont know how to put it in words besides pretty awesome

  • I think a great man!

  • Ayyyee check out my uncle nah! Rel nice

  • graat playing

  • great

  • skill ful

  • Eric "Airic" Liebing/ Panimal Cracker - if you love steel pan...check it!

  • Could you post the song "Soltar" by Robert Greenidge & Adrian Utley? Thanks.

  • an amazing artist this man is...

but i could play faster =3

    j/k

  • an amazing pannist this man is just inspiring =3

  • i love those standss give me nah lol and i wan meh own double secondss i steel yourslol

  • dat seconds sound sweet boy

  • wow, the sound is absolutely beautiful...music to my ears! lovely solo

  • It is no wonder this man is considered a GOD among pan players! With those high notes he is hitting there is no doubt that Bertie Marshall tuned them. Thanks for the inspiration,....

  • What a Joy you have brought to all Pannist and Pan Lovers Worldwide. RG you are an Ambassador of T+T and a Musical Genius taking our pan music to the TOP. Thanks.

  • Somewhere in the great heavens, George Harrison is hearing this and smiling.

  • that's a nice watch he has on

  • DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN

  • Weird point here, but is anyone else just as jealous of his pan stand as his playing? I detest every stand I've ever tried for double seconds - they're always either unweildy, weak, or restrictive... His just looks perfect! Wish I knew where to find one!

  • SICK SICK SICK SICK....THE MAN!

  • Robert is tha man

  • "Lord of the steel pans......"WHOW

  • Good Lord - Greenidge is insane! He takes the 'carribean' out of the instrument, and I mean that in the best way possible. So often people just look at steel pan as something to bust out a little mermaid or bob marley cover song on. Or to hear it played in a massive sound orgy with dozens of other players. RG makes pan a legitimate stand alone instrument - a piano of sorts.

  • My father is the best

  • Bravo!

  • Robert G is the best!

  • He's awesome! I love his little riffs with the soft undertones under it.

  • Great palyer

    great instrument

  • I can listen this almost every day

  • Awsome ! Love him with Buffet

  • Well, if this is garbage, I can't imagine what you must think is good. Maybe you're more into the guy in the subway with a two bit drum machine playing yellowbird, off beat.

No, this is not entirely my style of pan. But I DO recognize the genius in every note. It shows exactly why Greenidge is accepted as one of the best pannists anywhere.

Could you reply exactly why you think this is "garbage?"

  • u ah dummy..... surely u are not a person how accept and enjoy music, especially pan.....u are exactly one of those who hate what the world ha to offer..... ur opinion suck... don't make it AGAIN!!! and don't b jealous that u cant touch this........ Greenigde... a talented pannist..... I'm sooo proud to b a pannist a well......

  • i agree. leobody can just fuckin shut it!! robert g is amazing!

  • cool story, bro.

  • @XXleobodybuilerXX: What's your credentials ? RG has International Fame and Recognition and is an Icon World Wide . RG is one of our HEROES here in T+T and throughout the Pan and Music World, so please think again before you condemn . HE IS BRILLIANT IN HIS PERFORMANCES . Thanks .

  • didn't expect summertime! it's all beautiful though

  • Gifted, gifted and double gifted ...Robert is! Such an amazing talent! We have been blessed to have shared the stage in California from time to time. He is a man we all hold in the highest regards and then some!

  • Thank you, that was incredible!

  • reminiscent of bach

  • I wanna take classes for steel pan. I love the sound. This video is definitely inspiring.....

  • Robert Greenidge is an AMAZING player. My high school steel band has had the wonderful privilege of playing with him twice.

  • i cant imagine how long you would have to play to have the precision and just... FLAT OUT PURE SKILL to play like he does.

  • maybe thirteen or fourteen years of pan playing.

  • Trust me, lot longer than that my friend. Generally he plays with two stick in each hands. I've seen him with three or four and still every shot is precise. The man is good! Great gig Rober!!

  • He has been playing for almost 50 years. Since he was 8. He is the master.

  • id vote for him!

  • nice

  • This is the Steel Pan Mogul doing his thing...I say "Robbie for President".

  • this is just beautifulllll Robert

  • Ever heard of the hang drum? Check it out on you tube. It is an insult to every Trinidad and Tobago citizen that a thing like the hang drum could exist. If I painted Picasso's Weeping Woman upside down and marketed it as an upside down Picasso I would be swamped by copyright lawyers suing me for infringement. More importantly I would be derided by art lovers everywhere for producing a cheap, gimmicky knock-off and that is exactly what the hang drum is. Long live steel pan!

  • Steel pan is an incredibly unique and rich cultural instrument, you are right.

However, you are being nothing short of ignorant if you believe nobody should ever produce a new sort of instrument that is any way based off one before it.

Enjoy the sound of a piano? Guitar? Trumpet? Any modern instruments? They're all cheap gimmicky knock-offs of a previous design (read: product evolution).

  • Yes it is. I actually believe that the hang is a compliment to the pan. People loved the pan so much they wanted something just like it. I've been playing pan for years, and I think the hang drum is great.

  • i disagree its a diferent style of drum thats all it has a diferent sound which you might not like bt personly (beeing a small scale producer/composer) i actualy prefer, not only that but its portable, i like pans but the hang has a more ambient sound to it less high end mor bass and you get interesting little clicks :)

  • you re an idiot

  • dude take it easy! hang drum is a colour instrument, a toy if you will. it does not have the versitility to be looked at in the same light as a conventional instrument. the steelpan HAS that respect. however the hang is fun to play as a percussionist since you apply the same techniques that you use on skin drums and get a much wider range of tones. its creative, i like it. could be because its early pan like the boom and ping pong, but it like it.

  • @richseth Well I have to agree. Hang is one of the very few instruments that I actively dislike. Its tone, its ethos and its followers all make me sick. It is just a rip-off, pure and simple.

  • "Summer Time" is such a great song. It has that soulful Billie Holiday patina to it.

  • I believe this is the guy that plays with Jimmy Buffett. Amazing.

  • Damn. ITs like Beethoven on steel drums. pure genius.

  • This man is a GOD of the steel-pan. I have had the pleasure of meeting him several times, (wish me the best of luck on my Merlin Gill low C). Hope to get into double seconds soon.

  • Summertime!!!

    Gary - Steelasophical

  • This is fantastic stuff. Wish I could have been there to see it live. Have a listen to another great one from T&T.

  • Robert's mastery of his instrument and his incredible control puts him in the company of the greats!

  • I saw him when he came to T.O. back this summer 2007. He was good...but Mark Mosca took the show still...

  • i've never seen robert greenidge do a solo before but always heard his arangements...this was good..
