I love the subtleties the rules carry, like going into what would be a loose position in a western game, the pinch, on PURPOSE, is NOT a loose position.
I found the idea of the Cylinder Shogi to be extremely interesting.
It's a pity that the equivalent of an horizontal cylinder is out of the question, since the Kings would be giving check to each other from the very beginning of the game!
And giving a full twist before joining the edges of the vertical cylinder - having
squares 1a 1b 1c 1d 1e 1f 1g 1h 1i connected to
squares 9i 9h 9g 9f 9e 9d 9c 9b 9a respectively -
is really troublesome too, because the rooks would be facing each other...
i think the Disguised Shogi game would be interesting....i think it adds a fog of war element to the game. 4 player shogi would be fun but i've only gotten one of my friends to learn how to play shogi.
I think the game ends when the real King is actually captured. You can't be sure that you've won until you've actually captured the real King and your opponent has admitted it's the real King, although he might resign earlier than that...
I started playing Hasami Shogi on BrainKing :D

Like Cylinder Shogi, there is a new Weiqi/Go game named DaoQi. It changes the weiqi/go board into a ball (technically)

So if you capture the (actual) king in Disguised Shogi, is it considered a checkmate?
