@solitario24061960 -Bonita, sim. Eu não entendo a maravilhosa em 'infernal, como eu não acho que a essência de Johnny nunca vai acabar por ali perto, ele é angelical e sempre será. Desfrutar.
Thank you, Lenore, for this and all your Mathis videos! It turns out that Jeannette MacDonald and Maurice Chevalier actually premiered this song in 1932 in the movie "Love Me Tonight," singing lyrics not included in the published version of the song. Certainly a timeless song, like the current singer of it!
@BuckieBear - you're welcome Sherrie! i found that fact when i created the second version of the song a while back. (like it so much I did it twice) - thank you though _ i know you love music history. As it turns out there are many films in which the song has been performed- if you're not aware of some check the notes on the recent video. Thank you - glad you are enjoying them.
Sabrina is a lovely movie, an oldfasion one. It makes me see that the world has changet. Johnny sings all moviemusic in a terrific way. His voice on these new
ds sounds more "grown up" in a way. I can almost always hear in what 10-year
the recordings were made. But, he sounds exellent as always on this cd. I play it all the time. Fun also to read inside the cover, from the studio-recordings, the experience of an outsider. Berit from north.
@beweau I love this CD and this is my favorite of all songs- i don't mind repeating it- i'd love to hear him sing it in concert one day--- . Very clear to me why he was nominated for a Grammy that year for this creation. The liner notes by Jay Landers are always a treat to read- he's a wonderfully, expressive writer- who describes Johnny's gifts in such eloquent terms. Enjoy!
@SadoMazoPrinceSs - Mine too- or very close- my other real favorite is also with Audrey- and features priceless Mancini music (and I've heard Johnny say it's one of HIS favorite pieces:) "Two for the Road"- both wonderful movies- and the music is heavenly. I am such a broken 'record' :) on this - BUT_ this is my a FAVORITE Johnny song- dont' know why - it just gets me everytime:) enjoy.
@lenoremewton hearing this song makes me want to return to piano-playing so i can surprise my husband some evening....i'll be wearing an elegant "little black dress" and candles will be lit...
@mooseydeucy - if I was your penpal i'd be pretty glad to receive it- it is one of my very favorite songs sung by Johnny. I listen to it endlessly. Hope she enjoys!
@arandomperson240 - I don't know about the Glenn Miller connection- it was played in the movie Sabrina (as shown here)- .All the best in you search! Wonderful wedding song! Thanks for stopping by.
I absolutely love this C.D. The orchestration here accompanying his smooooooth vocals, make this "other wordly". Fan-tas-tic!! Thank you beautiful Lenore!
@rickw1100 - Ditto. This is my favorite CD and my favorite song- and unabashed, I listen to it almost every night. This video was fun- as I'm a very big Audrey fan- they both have something in common in addition to talent- they are both simple, humble people-. Nice- maybe that's why their work is so 'sweet'. Glad you enjoy it- and many thanks for you lovely comments!!
@irishbelle65 - You are so very welcome. I am becoming a 'broken record' (pardon the pun)- but I love this CD and this song is my favorite of all. It puts me to sleep most nights:) Enjoy.- well worth buying either the mp3 or really the whole CD is fabulous .I wish Johnny had won the Grammy for it that year he was nominated- he deserved it.
Weee.. been searching for this song since i hear it from Sabrina. lenoremewton, thanks for the upload. Btw, just wondering if u have just the instrumental ver of this song rather?
I love it as well - i listen to it OFTEN!! I dont' have the instrumental- only what you can hear on the film clip of that dance scene in Sabrina with Audrey Hepburn and William Holden. That would be worth searching for! So glad you like it.
"In the original 1945 Sabrina movie starring Audrey Hepburn, there is a instrumental song that I love. It is played when David Larrabee(William Holden) and Elizabeth Tyson (Martha Hyer ) dance in the Larrabee party. Does anyone know the name? I already tried finding the soundtrack on the web, but have had no success. You can hear that song in my YouTube account (alanizate)
Please What's the name of that song or melody? Thank you! Alan
THIS IS IT!!! The song played- and the one that David Larrabee (Holden) used to 'swoon' the ladies, with champagne, was "Isn't It Romantic". (the movie was 1954- i think you just transposed those numbers). In addition to Johnny's wonderful, romantic expression of this song, Audrey Hepburn was the epitome of class and much more. Thus the pairing of these photos with the song. Enjoy! (I don't know if you can find it on a soundtrack--)
@alanizate there was a girl who knew all the names of these songs and sent them to me on an old account. her name was justpeachy or something like that. at one point i think she named them all. sorry i can't remember the tittles.
they are beautiful lyrics- I love how Johnny sings the phrases before the main melody- they set the stage for the whole story of the song. This is one of my favorites. Glad you enjoy it .
I agree -wonderful arrangement and piano by Jorge Calandrelli- i had not heard of him before but am now noticing him on several recordings elsewhere (recently on a YoYoMa CD crossing over his music with brazilian music...-- ) so glad you like it ~
I was born singing and loving music, and I am old now, and he still excells anything these ears have heard....My personal favorite song he does is Deep Purple, and it sort of went unnoticed.!!Would love to hear it on youtube. In the ups and downs of my lifetime Johnny has always made the ups a little brighter. He truly has a gift that he has shared with so many. love you Johnny!!!
i could almost say 'ditto, ditto, ditto' to much of what you say- but I don't recognize 'old'! (i have a lively 99 year old mother--her attitude about life has kept her 'young'). Glad you like this one- Johnny has helped many people more than he could possibly ever know. What a gift! thanks.
sorry I didn't see this until today- thank you. I do love Ella's voice- such beautiful 'instruments' and like Johnny, a classic that can never be duplicated. Glad you enjoyed it- i really love this song and whole CD. Well worth buying.

I agree! I definitely think is was an error to give the Grammy to Michael Buble that year (tough choices- johnny and tony bennet)- Michael is a good singer - I enjoy him- but he does not have the passion or the individuality of either Johnny or Tony. This song was the winner - and it is a great cd!
Foi apenas força de expressão. A voz do Johnny é maravilhosa mesmo, celestial. Abraços.

"Music in the night, a dream that can be heard"
The most philosophical and elegant lyric line I know. Beautifully sums up everything that jazz means to me, and that is a great deal.
