  • Does the gamemaker have a feature where the characters can do special moves via specific motions like quarter circle forward attack (hadoken) from Street fighter?

  • @InternetReviewer Under the "Sprites" folder there are some more folders, right click the "Paths" one and click "Create Path"

    check if advanced mode is on.

    If it is this is weird,

    if not its because you can only create paths in advanced mode.

  • @ghrayche3 Yeah, there are a few ways. You can make a variable, let's call it health (which you would put in a create event) like this: health=3 Then under a collision with the punching object, say: health-=1 and in a step event say: if health<1 {destroy_instance} (or instance_destroy, I forget)

  • @LiWo02 2 things. 1, we're not experts like you, which is why we use this program. it's easy (or easier then most programs) to use, and it doesn't make us idiots just cause we can't make a highly advance game. 2, if you don't need to learn this, why are you looking this up?

  • all you have to do is make a script for obj_control under game start an put: global.ehp=10 //or what ever you want then make a script for obj_player _punch or what you call it, put under you attack button (like space or what ever) put: //damage global.ehp -= 1 //or what you want them make a (check variable) under step for the enemy an put: variable: global.ehp value: 1 operation: smaller then then put in you destroy and you done then you have to punch the amount of time you want to to kill

  • if it takes this much time to make a basic "kill that guy" game then imagine how long it would take to make a game like street fighter O_O

  • @PikaChamp112 it took him litterally 20 minutes to make this at this rate street fighter would take 6-8 hours of actual work(the seconds you spend actually working on this) meaning the creators worked for 15-30 minutes a week(counting only the time they were working on this not down time or time away from computer/not working on game)

  • In order for the guy to punch back, you will need some serious AI coding in GML XD

  • @masteranimation2008 It would actually be fairly easy to make the other guy do the exact same quality of attack you would be able to do, since this is already so low quality, now if your fighting system was high quality you'd have to make the AI for the opponent high quality too.

  • Three things really bug me about this video:

    1) You use a different object for various actions. That's a bulky method to doing it and very inefficient.

    2) You wait for the entire animation to be finished; why don't you get it to check the image_index, and at the very point where the punch is most extended, THEN activate the hit?

    3) Getting stuck into a platform is not a glitch, that's bad programming.

    Other than that, the tutorial wasn't bad, but wasn't very good.

  • @thedarklordx none of the concepts I just talked about are difficult if properly explained. The second point I made, for example, is very simple, all you need to do is just have a test variable function in the step event, wait for the image_index to hit the right image, and then execute the hit. As for that last comment, just because the video is made for people who are just learning about Game Maker, doesn't mean they deserve to be taught bad habits.

  • @GammaFoxTBG ok the second concept wont work for lots of animations/would be pointless what if its a multiple hit animation? so your gonna use that image index crap for every hit instead of just lumping them all together at the end(which would work unless your animation is so long people would have time to look at the hp and notice that it doesnt register til the end but then again that may be a bad example to answer your question what your saying isnt all that simple

  • @thedarklordx, Yes it is. If you have multiple frames that are supposed to register hits, then just put another test variable with an 'else' function.

  • @GammaFoxTBG dun worry ive greatly improved in skill over the last week i just powerlvled to gm noob to intermediate in less than a week(watch alot of youtube gm tutorials and get a pirated version of gm8 pro for free of da internet(a youtube video link) and your skills will power level)

  • @thedarklordx Sorry to tell you this, but you're not gonna learn a whole lot off of these YouTube tutorials. If you really are what you consider an "intermediate," you already know more than enough to not bother with these anymore. If you really do want to learn new stuff and very useful concepts, go to the Game Maker Community, where you can find tons of tutorials and get help without having to wait weeks. I can't put a link due to YouTube, but Google it, I guarantee you it will help.

  • @GammaFoxTBG i went to the gmc im currently on a 3-day ban for calling gmc staff douche bags in japanese(Which i dont speak i just google translated it aparantly you can get punished for what you do in other languages too its gay) so for now just lurking youtube watching game maker vids learning things i didnt know before that will come in handy for most(if not all) of my games

    player 1 left right up to move and ctrl to punch

    enemy a d w to move and space to punch

    then rename enemy to player 2 then go get a buddy and have a showdown(dont forget to make a backwards sprite for teh player like with the enemy(renamed player 2)
