PS3 Slim PS2 Backwards Compatibility???

ALL PEOPLE WHO WERE DUMB ENOUGH NOT TO KNOW THIS...:

ps3 slim does not play ps2 discs because of HARDWARE that was removed from the ps3 systems since 2009 (might have been 2008 :O). So it is impossible to download software off of the psn store to allow the play of ps2 games, unless u have a older model of ps3 with 4 usb slots which has the special hardware... and ps2 saves are there from downloadable ps3 games from psn store :O hope i got everything in.... lol

when you download a ps2 game from PSN it will still need a memory card thats compatible... but you can at least still play ps1 games off the disc... they never took that away

You know what pisses me off the fact it only costs like 20-40$ to add ps2 hardware so for a EMOTION engine and graphics synthesizer chip must be like 10-20$ a piece so why has sony removed BC to make more money off the ps2 the ps2 has sold over 150 million units and counting plus over 1.5 billion copies of games and the ps3 has sold what 50 million units so sony is making more money off the ps2 than the ps3 so if they add BC what happens nobody buys a ps2

The PS/PS2 memory cards are there because you can buy PS1 games from PlayStation store. Sadly, PS2 games are still unavailable in PlayStation store. Hope this helped!

PS2 memory card option is there because the old systems that do feature PS2 emulation still require it to be there. All PS3s share the same firmware, there isn't specific firmware for the fat and specific firmware for the slim.

This just struck me. I bought a ps2 but never really played it but had a collosall (spelling) amount of games, then I moved onto xbox360 elite and am enjoying halo but that's about it. If I bought ps3 not only would I get the excellent exclusives but also the ability to play ps2 games. PS my ps2 it practically dead to me so I wouldn't set it up again just for the replayability when I can sell it to make money for a ps3 to play my old games and then some :)

Nope, the PS2 and PS3 use extremely different technology, there's basically no way for PS3 slim to play a PS2 game, unless it's re-released.

As for now, either use PCSX2 or buy/use PS2, preferably with component. They're still everywhere.

I remember when I just got the PS3 60GB (SUPER RARE, SUPER GOOD!!) and it works with PS1, PS2 and PS3 games!! I noticed that there wasn't a slot for the memory card so I had to start all over again! Still, I have PS1, PS2 and PS3 games! I also have got PSEye and PSMove and they are amazing! Might copy the data from PS3 to my PC so that if it breaks down I don't lose anything. Still, I highly recommend buying the 60GB and NOT the new one(s) just make sure you get it a not the slim one.

I don't really mind no backward compatibility, I mean PS2 is last gen we gotta learn to let things go. Just play the new tiles, there are plenty new ones being made right now. Or just keep your PS2 and whenever you feel like playing PS2 just turn on your PS2, if you want to play PS3 turn on your PS3. Also I think you can buy classic games on the PlayStation Store. Which no one would do that if they already own the game and don't want to buy it again.
