  • i LOVE how he breaks the joints in his walk cycles!

  • @thebastardevil Hey man I have this book too, and my animations are coming out like this too because I'm drawing the stick figures, but this is merely to get used to animating and using the techniques he's talking about. I'm not going to make any cartoons with these stick figures. And how anyone could call any animation "lazy" is over critical and not at all constructive.

  • Great work i rly like the way your character walks and the motion you give it such a simple and easy drawing but with so much live well done i hope to see more of your work one thing use Digicel flipbook 2d for your line test is way more easy from the method you are using now and then you have more time to improve your animation even more! ^^ i am a animation student i advise you to get preston blair book too its wonderfull!

  • thank you for the great comment, i have read the Preston Blair book, but i don't own a copy, i used to get it out from my school library all the time, but that was years ago. Again... thanx :-D

  • Also...as your a student, is it possible to do an animation course entirely using d2 methods and no other animation style, such as 3d????????????

  • yeah, that's how Disney did it originally and personally its my favorite style of animation

  • yeah, its a shame computer animation has taken over everything, not that i hate CG animation, but i think that CG should really only be used if your creating a character like gollum in the lord of the rings, but cartoons should really be hand drawn, theres a certain charmness to handdrawn animation that has been lost.

  • It's coming back though. The majority of my animation class wants to do classical when they get out. Also the amazing Princess and the Frog.

  • ah that's a relief, hopefully we'll be seeing some REAL cartoons on our T.V screens again.

  • @littlefilmsJN I doubt we'll be seeing a lot of traditionally animated content in the future as sadly its too expensive. The world simply doesn't wish to/can't fund it anymore. Still 2d will never die, it'll just evolve, more towards limited animation, which can be verry pretty in its own right =). But yeah 3d works really well when combined with live action =). I mean just look at avatar =). Although i would love a 2d animated show which still incorporates cartoon violence and cartoon humour

  • @Wynand07 although it IS more cheap than it was a some years ago! Compare what they did in cel animation back at the early 90's! We are not going so far as the 40's. I don't understand why they can't still produce good animation these days, when there are no cels needed or film or expensive camera equipment etc.

  • @Recedebo Agreed, its much cheaper today than it was. I think greed is the origin of this problem. Greedy decision makers who care only about furthering the depth of their own back pockets. The same types who outsource animation to 3rd world countries because its cheaper, neglecting their fellow country men and wrecking the industry. If your competitor is knocking out shows at a fraction of the cost you are, they will receive more business. Its basically quantity over quality. Sad really.

  • @littlefilmsJN It's not that computer animation is bad it's the in individuals now a days have no personality

  • @dadadaJOE agree with you, i have actually changed my view on CG in the last year. I have seen a lot of CG animation that i find very impressive. I used to be very opinionated and narrow minded, when i wrote the comments dissing CG. I have no problem with any form of animation these days. But i'm still doing 2d rather than computers, simply because i love drawing and i think 2d is the most expressive form of animation.

  • Dude amazing! Im looking into ordering that book right now i really want to learn how to do 2d animation :D. by the way what method did you use to put all your pencil frames together?

  • i use a really complicated method that takes too much time. i video the drawing for about 12 frames, then play it back and rewingd it 11 frames. then i take 12 frames of the next drawing, play it back and rewind it 11 frames, so each drawing lasts one frame, i only do it because i'm terrible with computers, lol. AND i strongly advise you buy the richard williams book, it's so clear and simple and also there is a DVD box set of richard's examples in the book. have you just started out animating?

  • If you have a mini DV camera I believe you can take stills on it and upload them directly to your computer...

  • @doomlevel27 I scan every frame :/ - takes a while but generally get better results

  • also, when you get started make sure to uplaod all of your work, i'd like to see it :-D

  • Thanks JN, I ordered the book yesterday and I cant wait to get it =D I've done some 3D Animation with a software called 3Ds Max made by AutoDesk. But I want to improve My drawing skills so I wanted to get into 2D Pencil Drawing Animation . and Thanks for your reply. =) Yea and I'll post some reels for you along the way of learning 2D.
