did you try baking the motherboard...i've been reading up and checking videos, and some claim it works? I don't know myself, but i have a dv9600 with the same issue. i'm debating on trying it...got nothing to lose at this point.

HP dv9000 has a bios problem that causes the fan to not run to cool the chips, thus your CPU and video chips get too hot and do not work or become damaged. HP knows this and they never made a strong effort to recall these models. The vents need to be cleaned, and then replace the fan if it does not work after bios fix. Replacing the fan required a total dis-assembly. PS: Never block the vents by placing laptop on you bed. Must be a hard flat surface.
I made the mistake of buying this computer refurbished from the repair shop. I bougth it for $300. This computer is probably the worst computer ever made. This was one of the problems, also it gets really hot when its on. My current problem with this computer is that it freezes after it starts up. My Compaq C502 (which I accidently killed with soda) wasnt the best, but it was still better than this one. I may end up selling it for parts also.
my dv9000 does this too, mine just makes loud beeping noises when i turn it on, and then no display, and though blind, i can sign in to my account, i know because my ipod syncs then i lokin and itunes opens up...is it possable to just buy a replacement graphics card for a dv9000, or is it just toast?
@alexspengler LOL bad you! If you have this problem again Google it, there's a thing called an inverter that might cause this issue. You'll come up with a few different things to try to get your display back. What I've experienced to work is a little crazy but makes sense when you think about it - purposely overheating laptops until they shut down on their own resets the GPU to it's default settings. Not always the problem, it could be the motherboard, but it's worth trying.
They told me it was the motherboard and that it would eventually happen again...hp has lost my business forever now....i paid so much money for that piece of crap....never again will i buy hp products..they can go to hell...i got a mac instead and im happy..just wish i could use the laptop in some way
Mine has done this 3 times in less than 2 years. Good thing for extended warranty. Get rid of it as this model is a a pile of crap and it will continue to break over and over again.
The only temporary solution is to run it in power saver mode. When ever I run it in high performance it overheats and shuts off. HP=SHIT! I'm gonna try a Toshiba or something next.
try removing the battery, then press the power button for 60sec, after that plug the charger and turn on,, if it works finally return the battery :) hopefully it will work.. thank you
nVidia should first recall all the Laptop GPU they have manufactured between 2004-2008 and refund all those people who bought them. After they officially admitted defects in packaging resulting in overheating and malfunctioning nVidia did absolutely nothing for consumers but they announced the shareholders that $200 mil were set aside for claims and warranties...and thats all.
I already joined the Class Action Lawsuit at hxxp://cases.milberg.com/nvidia/#usermessage17a ...replace xx with tt.
The thing of holding down the power button ain't gonna fix this as its a fatal problem. Usually if its graphics you will get one long beep and two short beeps. I had mine just over a year when it happened first. HP fixed it then it lost the lcd a week later. They fixed it again by turning the fan up in an attempt to keep it cool. It's just gone again now and I ain't paying to get em to fix it. HP don't give a damn about its customers. They should've recalled the whole lot. HP are complete crap.
after expire warranty, I have black screen Winxp can't boot up., but it's on extended, so I sent it and got it back and use it until now I have the same problem. I tried several things to bring up Windows some times it's worked. Here the info that I tried and collected from google it.
2. REMOVE BATTERY -Shutdown the PC, by holding the power button for 10 seconds. -Then remove the battery and replace it back. -Turn on the PC and now the screen will show up.
After I tried many things to solve this problem I finally know how to solve it.
There are 2 options :
1. (BEST SOLUTION) Hold "fn" button and press "F4" key/button. (Fn + F4) -Let the PC power up and wait few seconds until the windows comes up, ( Wait tell the windows is logged in - in case of one user just wait 60 seconds ). -Press fn with F4 keys on the keyboard and the Screen will show up !! Done !
Problem was spread across multiple companies...just mostly HP. People with Dells and any integrated graphics card, mostly the 8400 and 8600 series from NVidia have had problems. if you have an 8400 or 8600 card from Nvidia and have had no problems, it's only a matter of time.
im trying to fix my friends dv6500 right now for this very same problem. notice theres no beep, num lock dont respond. I checked every single wire and everything is connected right. I was able to get into the windows an hour ago for a few sec before comp shut down on me. HDD, ram, screen, everything work. So conclusion=motherboard failure. Dont bother replacing it, too many have same problem. Go get a Clevo built laptop & u wont have problems. Any laptop enthusiast would agree.
DV9000 is built like cheap crap. Left side of my laptop screen just popped open after only a year with minimum open and closing. I am still using it but it will be my first and last HP. I am going back to Dell laptop.
oh crap this is exactly my problem WOAH!! i got so frustrated i ended up opening it like an idiot. Might fix it if i know what the hell the problem is. Im guessing its the motherboard UGGH.. im never buying hp or compaq, dell might have shit costumer service but i like my xps 1530 much better. HP SUCKS Compaq sucks. Sorry I couldnt help bummer. These companies get away with so much.. Its BS..
Yes, it is the graphics chip coming de soldered from the motherboard. HP knows it but mums the word when you call them......My dv6000 is dead also, 2 years old and $1000 down the drain!
I had the same problem man. Guess what, your motherboard is gone. you needed to replace your motherboard. I have HP extended warranty so they fixed it for me.
I have the same exact problem with my Dv 9000. One day it was working fine then nothing. I saw some tutorials on youtube about what i can do to fix this problem. I took my whole laptop apart, cleaned it up on the inside, made sure the screen was connected, then put it back together. In addition to the fact that when i screwed it back together, i was left with an extra screw, i didnt end up fixing it. Something is wrong with the motherboard i was told, so most likely it needs to be replaced.
