  • Look @ 2:08 , looks like Steve Priest is trying to make Brian laugh, almost worked.

  • Comment removed

  • @cubby3o5 Sorry, I misinterpreted the song. He's saying something completely different on the last verse.

  • Love this track !!! got the original albums (not all ) takes me back to when I was 13 at my mates after school mark surrocopud in bromwich. Soz for the spelling

    MAGIC !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • one of the best records out the 70's maybe 80's

  • i loved the sweet in there day.but lets not get carried away unless you the beatles ,rolling stones or someone with that kind of talent ..your playing in a moment of time ie sweet ,slade t.rex etc ..glamrock...sexpistols ...punk ,i say make ya money and run......sad endings all of em ..sad but true

  • @stumpydolphin I agree with you but there are other, more complex issues to staying famous .Take Slade for example, they had started to pen some of their greatest songs including 'How Does it Feel ?' ,'Far Far Away','Everyday' and 'In for a Penny' (any of which were worthy of even The Beatles) but yet these songs couldn't stop their eventual slide from the top.Today's groups take years between releasing albums and remain successful because of marketing .Slade had a successful comeback too !

  • fantastic i was stuck in front of the tv every thursday night , in hope to see the sweet on totp , t.rex was another favourite , MUSIC WAS MUSIC , NOT SOME CUNT HITTING A BISCUIT TIN

  • fantastic i was stuck in front of the tv every thursday night , in hope to see the sweet on totp , t.rex was another favourite

  • I love this video!! Fantastic!!

  • I love this video!! Fantastic!!

  • These guys were EXCEPTIONAL and they new it! I don't give a damn HOW many #1 hits they had or didn't have.Their body of work and musicianship is enough proof/evidence for me.Love Steve's look @ 2:08,how they kick it in @ 2:37,Steve again @ 3:18.Steve was the ham and really had fun being in a premiere group.Lived it to it's fullest.Looks like Brian really dug this tune by his facial expressions. Damn,I wish I had seen them live.DAMN!

  • Great Song ! :D

  • @yooanoozarrmay Sweet 's vocal harmonies pre-date Queen by a few years . Also perhaps Brian May was embarrassed to quote Sweet as such an important influence at the time when he said that Rory Gallagher inspired him to use a treble booster rather than Andy Scott ? Although Sweet opened the door ,Queen were the more consistent song writers and many of their greatest songs E.G 'Killer Queen ' 'etc. were piano based rather than guitar driven.

  • @TheHumbuckerboy Yes,Sweet predated Queen and thus set the new standard in vocal prowess that stands today I say.Sweet = 4 MAN CHOIRE! Listen to them. I get goose bumps. Vocally, they were frightening. You know what I'm a sayin'? As a guitarist I'm curious, why do you say May was embarrassed to cite Sweet/Scott as an influence on the treble boost and instead cite Rory?Recently found out that B-Blitz was in regards to Sweet being "bottled" off stage due to their glam appearance.Amazing.

  • @MrJohnnyDistortion My comment concerning Scott/Gallagher was due to the fact that Rory has always been highly respected (and rightly so ) as a serious musician.Andy on the other hand ,wouldn't have been regarded as being "cool" at this time in the public's perception because of the Glam image even though other players (rightfully) rated him highly . Concerning Ballroom Blitz I doubt if Sweet were "bottled" off any stage during this period because they were at the peak of their popularity.

  • @TheHumbuckerboy Yes,thank you for the Scott/Gallagher clarification.I felt it was thus.I did read some where that Ballroom Blitz was written about a gig early in their carear where Sweet was "bottled" of stage due to their attire and peoples homophobia I guess.I think it was in Wikipedia that I read about it.If It's true then we have no respect for Scott due to the glam appearance and fans (?) throwing bottles at a gig for the same reason if you will.T.F-who knows.R&R sure is interesting.Chow.

  • @TheHumbuckerboy Yes,indeed it is Wikipedia that mentions a "bottling" off stage in '73 @ The Palace Theater & Grand Hall in Kilmarnock Scotland leading to Ballroom Blitz being penned. It states this happened because of the glam and that fans were confused by this and of their heavier B side singles (?).People freak out easily.Wikipedia -The Sweet - International Success section - 3rd paragraph.True/False?Dunno.Makes sense and for good R&R lore. What humbuckers/amps/speakers do you use & guitars?

  • R.I.P. Brian and Mick.

  • This song is part of 1 great album. Totally underrated. One of the better albums in the 70s.

  • at close to 60 this song makes me 21 again absolute perfection--glad I was there

  • Its so fucking groovy!!!!

  • Wow, just wow. Haven't heard this tune in twenty years or more, and it sounds just as fantastic today. Thanks so much for putting it up!

  • Aint that great?

  • this is from an album called desolation boulevard if it's not in your collection go to play.com and buy it I bought it on LP when it came out for the singles a listen now shows it for the classic it was and is way ahead of it's time

  • @inspectorprice you said it....the whole album is fantastic!! I NEVER tire of listening to Sweet.

  • this song was played at brians funeral as it was his favourite song

  • Queen where definitely influenced by Sweet's four part vocal harmonies .When Brian Connolly died ,Brian May said nice things about BC and he stated that they (meaning Queen) had admired Sweet's sound on record .

  • @TheHumbuckerboy those two bands had a hell of alot in common in the mid 70s. and both were up there in my favourites. great musicianship and great records.

  • How good was this

  • P.S. Oh and they were so underrated. Many ppl just considered them a teenie bop band but they had great harmonies which, if I may say that, even remind me of Queen sometimes. Thanks kkjabe for sharing the sweet memories...:)

  • Oh and I think they were so underrated. Many ppl just considered them a teen band but their harmonies are great (sometimes even remind me of Queen, if I may say that). Thanks to the internet we can listen to all these great songs again. Thanx kjabe:)!

  • This was one of my favorites. Brings back so many memories, very touching.R.I.P. Brian, he was my first idol when I was like 10 or 11.

  • this song goes to my grandad i dont think hes going to live the night tonight

    FUCK YOU CANCER

    <3 this song forvever

  • Ich war eben durch Zufall auf einer GAGA-Seite, oh man mir kam bald das würgen!!! Wie schön das es Musik von Brian,Andy,Mick und Steve gibt!!!

  • This was Brian's favourite Sweet song -a classic!

  • Waren heute offenbach germany for a gig to die

  • A very nice song. Brings back memories.

  • Life goes on .

  • haha noticed the dirty look .... funny haha

  • Excellent!

  • I love Sweet.

Their songs bring back, well, sweet memories.

    George Vreeland Hill

  • @2:09 does anyone notice the dirty look Steve Priest gives its like someone cracked an eggy fart lol

  • This is the best song Sweet ever recorded... a masterpiece.

  • omg! i love the sweettt!!!!!

    haha steve at 2:08 xD

  • Brilliant.

  • FANTASTIC BAND, incredible talent. This is one of my all time favorite songs EVER. But I wonder how they felt about the TV studio hanging up those awful "16"s. The song is about 3 couples: six teenagers, not "sixteen".

  • classic pop at its very best.... clever, different from stuff before with a great hook. Awesome ! .. and its not being done any more :-((

  • great band. used to collect all their pin-up posters from the JACKIE magazine(anyone remember that?).

if The Sweet come along the same time as Queen, these two bands wld hv been close rivals. great vocals, musical talent, and lots of cuteness !!!!

  • Oh to be 16 again!

  • Genial!!!!!!

  • Glamrock at it's best...

  • A song every parent ought to force their teenage kids to listen to...and gun point if need be.. ;)

  • still class bet dizzy rascal wont still be played in years to come

  • Slade had more success commercially but Andy Scott's guitar sound was the best of all the bands of that period - and I love 'em all!

  • My Favorite album for many years starting in 76

  • Comment removed

  • they were just so creative.there songs seem to come out of nowhere.different parts, cool drum/guitar fills.little transitional sections in the middle of there songs and of course that killer high voice singin.u can tell music was there whole life.

  • Suzi and Dave you can make it. I love to see Steve's face. hahahaha

  • @Dolfijnenballet66 I think Steve's face at that line was because he messed up on the words & he realized it. His mouth does not match the vocals - it's because they were lip synching. It is funny though.

  • Absolutely awesome.

  • This song hit # 1 in several different countries back in '74, I believe, but most Americans, including most rock fans in the States, have never even heard this song. Very unfortunate.

  • @sheephider82 this song was only a number one in Germany

  • @walter4092

leider nicht Nr. 1, sondern Nr. 4 in Deutschland.

  • @SuperRudi56 you re right , only in Denmark it was nr 1 , i was wrong , but wil you believe me when i say it s a shame that songs like ballroom blitz and teenage rampage went only nr 2 in uk ,

  • Comment removed

  • @walter4092 Sweet had 8 number one and a total of 15 Top Ten hits in Germany. It is the third most successful band of all time in Germany and the most successful of the 70 years.

  • @sheephider82 I always try to suggest, "PLAY THEIR MUSIC FOR THOSE WHO DO NOT KNOW WHO THEY ARE"!

  • no intention to sugest they were gay but this is the start of music I call gay pop--that is not a critism but a cellebration.Sweet bowie lou reed bolan divine tight fit baltimora and many more. This is the sound track to my life and I wouldn't want it any other way.I am old enough not to bother about what people think of me-- I just love the music

  • @noproblem53 I don't care if they were gay or not (I'm not).I'll still go shake a musicians hand and give them my musical respect as a musician myself, especially if they were The Sweet and could produce this high quality ground breaking material and set new standards.

  • I Love the Brian's look !!!!

  • Ich war bis zu diesem Lied Sweet-Fan, dann gehörte der richtige Rock meinem Herz: Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, und auch Status Quo waren damals Rocker.

  • I saw Sweet at the Floral Hall southport early 80s best concert ever. This music forged my future and at close to 60 I have absolutally no regrets.GAY POP IS THE ABSOLUTE BEST EVER

  • @noproblem53 all the members of the sweet are/were straight. the gay label is just that, a misplaced one that built the myth they are gay. They just happen to all be soprano males...

  • One of Sweet's most memorable. Brian Connolly is simply adorable.

  • Well that just Rocks!

  • Was macht Steve Priest für ein Gesicht bei 2:08 / 2:09? irgendwas funzt da net! Aber geil!

  • Where the fuck were you in 68 lol brill

  • Love Steve Priest's expression at 2.08!

  • Brian Connolly what a voice but Andy Scott actually had the higher range in his voice they almost sounded like they inhaled helium before they sang but then Robert Plant sang like that too in that higher register they did'nt have to scream to sound

like chicks they just had those soft feminine voices and they drank and smoked and did everything imaginable and still sounded like that very strange.

  • The seventies was THE decade for great music, not like this manufactured shite you get today!

  • super

  • In this first picture they look like the first generation of Manowar!

  • they were masters at choruses.

  • one of the best bands ever period

  • love this band still

  • So underrated!!!!!!!! these guys had awesome stage presence and harmonies !!!!

  • i love these guys

    *-*

my dad give me the first sweet cd when im 9 (now im 15)

    and i love these guys

  • RIP BRIAN AND MICK

  • i think they're standing on a giant rubik's cube

  • @shinyglanz They ARE standing on a giant Rubik's cube. ... now if they stood still long enough... I reckon I could solve it :)

  • Well said 3crazyfools

  • Wow, I was four and saw this on the telly at the time. It was the reason I begged my Dad to empty my piggy bank and buy me my very first single - this one.

    RIP Brian and Mick

  • Hahaha Steve is off his nuts !

  • Great!

  • I heared it in my youth, and I like to hear it again and again.

  • Ah, but it takes you back though...

  • good band good song bad lip synching

  • always had great melodies

  • RIP Brian you were the best glam ricker

  • Always tried to figure out what the lyrics to this song were about. 'Nam, I take it, or the "Peace and Love" generation, both, etc! LOL!

  • Sweet... Best band ever!

  • Definatley one of there best

  • R.I.P Brian Francis Connolly 1945.10.05-1997.02.09. One Incredible Singer <3

R.I.P Michael "Mick" Thomas Tucker 1947.07.17-2002.02.14. One Incredible Drummer <3 Both of you are DEARLY MISSED! & ALWAYS LOVED BY SO MANY PEOPLE!.....R.I.P Legends (If you don't think they are legends then you have some serious problems.)

    Sweet ROCKS!

There is No Sweet without Mick & Brian :(

  • @The70s80s90sRockGirl Totally agree 1000%

  • @The70s80s90sRockGirl sweet does rock! theyre sweet!

  • They are a great band

  • Yeah...I wanna go there!

  • rock on you 70's gods!!!!!

  • What was that look at 2:04?

  • What Steve'o at 2.08 mime the work "can't" {when the word is supposed to be "can"}, Then he give a funny little look..........lol.

  • I remember this song.

    Thanks for the memories.

    George Vreeland Hill

  • Brian Connolly had one of the most amazing voices in rock. I had read somewhere, I can't take credit for it, that someone had called it "The Voice of God," and I wish I had said it. Whatever he did when he sang "And life goes on, you know you know it ain't easy" is just incredible. I LIVE for that sound.

  • I saw Brian Connoly's Sweet band just before he died. It was incredible. Even though he was shaking and couldn't sing much the audience went crazy me included. I also went to see Andy's Sweet band and they did great;)

  • This was a great period in my teenage years. What a shame that these guys had to spend much of their time playing on kids shows like this. How imaginitive to have number '16's all around the studio!

  • This song is just a classic.

  • I love Sweet. Since Funny Adams. Thanks for this video, I dreamed to see it since I was a teen in SU (30 years ago)

  • ha ha whats the look from steve for after "suzy and davey you can make it".typical of him.what a star.legend!!!

  • either mixed up the lip synch or forgot the words. Either way, classic Steve. As you say total legend.

  • One of my all time favorites for ever. I grew up listening to this a thousand times over the years. AWESOME SONG, BRILLIANT in every way.

Maybe we'll make it, one day.

  • They made great songs and were very underrated

  • Comment removed

  • Wow. Sweet. What can you say? They were decades ahead of their time.

  • One of the best pop songs of all.

  • wtf is this guy talkin bout?

  • @punkrockefeller I'm not sure, but it sounds great. I think it's best just to enjoy it and not to think too deeply!!

  • this band were great

  • love the song, love the video. love the band. the pix of them when they were young, awesome. thanks for the posting.

  • Briliiant band!!!!!

  • Te best band ever.

  • RIP Brian!

  • attention sweet fans! There was a clip on YouTube showing Brian talking to Ayshea on Lift Off TV programme. I think it was just before this performance of the sixteens...anybody know what happened to it? Maybe one of you could let me know where it is now....disappointed loyal fan and worshipper of Brian Connolly...

  • tyu jkjio ool o sweetuk,liom,

  • Sweet, los putos amos y pioneros de todo lo que vino después!!

  • Brian was sooo SEXY!!

  • glamtastic fantastic

  • Glam rock at it's best.

  • La mejor música que he escuchado...

  • Holy crap!! This song, and the LP "Desolation Boulevard" makes me hop aboard the wayyyback machine.

Had one of those Panasonic portable 8-track players (in red), with the T-top handle that you pushed down to switch to the next track. Usually in the middle of a song, mind you, young tads!! LOL

    "And life..(pause)(click)..goes on"...Good times!

I whacked that T-top so many times, I finally broke it. Had to be careful after that; if I whacked too hard, it left a mark on my hand!! ha

  • and life goes on...

  • ...exactly....

  • i will forever love The Sweet

i was 8 and i was a great fan of them

    this music is fucking great

  • The absolute best song this absolutely brilliant band ever did. Unbelievably incredibly brilliant!!! I was 14 when it came out and I will never forget it. Never ever ever ever. I will always love the Sweet.

  • i was 16 in 1983

  • in 68 i was only 1 year <3 <3 <3

  • i was only 7-10 when sweet was having there big time on the charts i simply love this song and i'ts message

    sincerely

    smeg0l

  • check out the massive fart the bass guitarist lets rip at 2:09

  • lol thanks for pointing that out. I laughed. :p

  • One of the best songs of all time.

  • Where's a time machine when you need one. :(

  • @70s80sMusicFan I think you have the most thumbs up.Rightfuly so.

  • You all are friggin NOOBS, "WE ALL KNEW THEY ROCKED", guess the younger generation will eventually figure it out. The BEST music happened between the 60's and 90's

  • MOJA KRASNA MLADOST!!!

  • Can't understand why this didn't make higher than number 9 on the UK charts ?

  • Because there was a LOT of competition!

  • What like the Wombles and the Goodies ? Glam was fading fast in '74 and disco was taking over. This was still better than most of the pap in the charts like Mud, Alvin Stardust, Bay City Rollers who were all big around this time.

  • Union Gap/Gary Puckett (Young Girl), Suzi Quatro (Devil Gate Drive), David Bowie (Rebel, Rebel), Hollies (The Air That I Breathe), Ringo Starr (You're Sixteen), Paul McCartney & Wings (Jet), Queen (Seven Seas Of Rye), Hot Chocolate (Emma), Abba (Waterloo) and others. Whether you like them is irrelevant - all these place on the UK top 40 in 1974... punk was also starting to appear.. Sex Pistols, Ramones, The Vibrators...very good year for music.

  • ...and I also forgot Slade (Bangin Man), Eric Clapton (I Shot the Sheriff), Rolliing Stones (It's Only Rock and Roll), Cozy Powell (Na, Na, Na), David Essex (Gonna Make You A Star), BTO (You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet), Elton John (Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds), Status Quo (Down Down)...I could keep going...and that's just a few of the ones that made the UK top 40.

  • The Sweet had come off a run of a No.1 and 3 consecutive No.2s so this only getting to No.9 was a big come down for them. I'd say the competition was hotter in 73 than 74 so I still don't think this explains the relative lack of success of this song, Early to mid 74 saw a changing of the old guard and the beginning of the end fro Sweet, Slade, T Rex etc etc. Punk didn't chart until late 76 early 77 by the way.

  • I remember that there was a musicians union strike or something at the BBC when this was out...so no Top of the Pops, for a few weeks, which I think affected record sales at the time.

  • This song is so georgeus......:X

  • yep they were one of the best bands ever in my opinion. My son who is 14 also loves them. I bought this single when it came out in 1974, with Burn on the flame on the 'b' side, which is another fantastic song. I have all their albums and singles, fantastic band!

  • Wow - speechless.

  • oh Brian ..best song and best band forever

  • Fricking Master piece !!!!!!

  • Is the footage of T.rex playing 'Truck On' on Lift off around anywhere?

  • great change of pace at 2-30. wonderful record.

  • Sweet got better when they stopped doing the teeny bop music - this for example, this is a brilliant song.

  • I looved the Desolation Boulevard LP when I was a kid. Since then I've also discovered a few more good songs. But the DB songs are the still on my playlists.

  • ahh back to my early teens, not the best band but as far as glam rock goes its cool.

  • Now THAT is harmonizing.

Words can't even describe how amazing this band is.

  • Oh god I just love this song

  • aww luk at steve at 2:08 soooo funny lol xxx
