Good choice downloading this song but for god sakes can't you get a stereo copy of it. It sounds liks shit man. You're doing it a total injustice dude. This song is a trippy stereo treat and should be heard as such. Not your mono bullshit. Fix it right away. Please?
The members of Judas Priest themselves were disappointed in how this turned out. But, there are some real gems on this album. This song being one of them. Priest is playing it on the Epitaph tour. I don't believe I've ever heard a Rocka Rolla song live from JP. I'm so looking forward to when the current tour reaches my town in October. \m/ Judas f***ing Priest!
So glad one of my friends had The Very Best of Judas Priest tape when I was a teenager. Listened to that over and over - I was unfamiliar with early Priest and was instantly hooked. A great road trip tape.
one comment stirred up alot of response ......its all great music.....i just feel that sabbath should share the throne with priest as far as pioneering a genre.....thats all nothing more nothing less...
Dumbass discussions. Who cares about influence? The music is great. Take Deep Purple for instance. They sound like grandpas compared to Judas Priest. They always have. I don't care whether they're influential or not.
this is one of the greatest albums written in the history of rock .....this early priest blended pentatonic blues rock with early metal better than sabbath's first album....though sabbath get's the credit for being the godfathers of metal....listen to this whole album....i'll bet you disagree.....
@motelmanify Rubbish... these guys used the same producer as Sabbath, without bringing anything new to the table, really... sort of a hybrid of Purple and Sabbath, only difference is Sabbath and Purple were important to the history of music. Judas Priest were important to the history of metal, but bands like Hendrix, Cream, Purple and Sabbath are MUCH MORE important, generally.
@blacknganga Not entirely true. Though I agree that stating that Rocka Rolla is more important to metal than Black Sabbath is rubbish, Judas Priest are still important pioneers. That dual lead guitar sound wasn't exactly new to rock (Wishbone Ash, Allman Brothers, Lynyrd Skynyrd, etc), they sure brought the sound to metal. The sound has been duplicated and imitated by countless metal bands since, from traditional heavy metal, all the way into melodic death metal.
@akyrii Like bands like Atomic Rooster. I love Atomic Rooster, however, (like JP) they simply made variations on the ideas and sounds already invented by Sabbath. Sabbath ARE metal, as it stood in 1970, and for all time. I'm not saying JP didn't have influence, just that "Rocka Rolla" was highly derivative of Sabbath AND Purple, and frankly, with such ball-less, Purple-cloned lyrics as late as 1974, how does this pass as being of any real importance? Most commercial metal bands are just douche.
@yousaiditzero Absolutely; Sabbath derived sound with middle-of-the-road hard rock lyrics typified by Purple; are YOU joking? If you can't see the comparison, then you musn't know of DeepPurple.
@akyrii Cream's mythology + Hendrix's heavyness + Zappa's iconoclasm = Sabbath. By their originality alone, Sabbath are incomparable to any other metal band since. Sabbath's music is entirely comparable to death metal and black metal music, however, say Metallica, with their corporate logo mentality are entirely out of the league of the genuine creativity of Sabbath. Thrash Metal> 90% is just some sick fucking joke, like most of the punk that followed the Sex Pistols.
@blacknganga Wrong!!! Priest is very important to all sorts music but most of all to metal but they are really importent to other sorts of music to! And they brought new stuff to the table, they are the first heavy metalband, Judas Priest is very important to music over all genres! Only a fool would disagree!
@hallbergjonatan Sabbath = metal overlords. Judas Priest = joke music from the shit era metal went into initially after Sabbath blew the lid off. Sabbath are the only original group in the history of metal, speed/thrash for the most part is appalingly shite, tasteless, untill finding redemption in death and finally black metal. JP = b grade Deep Purple>
@blacknganga You're the disliker aren't you? And you have OBVIOUSLY the wrong opinion about this argument 'cuse Judas is a hell of a band so is Maiden, Saxon, Overkill, Black Sabbath Motörhead e.t.c...
@hallbergjonatan No, I certainly don't hate JPriest..Yaaawwn. Motorhead ARE one hell of a band, that's for sure! Priest were just a bit too late on the scene to be important to the broader music history. You can see in their first few albums that they were simply mimicking Sabbath & Purple...
@blacknganga I still think you're wrong, their early stuff is really good and they are not mimicking Sabbath & Purple of course they are big influences of Priest but they are not mimicking then
@naxolxdxa1 Is that where you get your plastic views come from-wiki? yeah, well, I don't have time for that, too busy listening for the originators, and discarding the pretenders. 90% of metal between the years '76 and '88 = horseshitzen.
@FatalJoymonkey1337 Oh yes, but popular culture is not just about music, it is about other things also; entertainment, performance. I have little doubt that Frank Zappa is amongst the best musicians in history, but does that mean he is one of "the best rockers" ?...maybe not. Bob Dylan is the other way around. Black Sabbath are probably the only really original metal group. Sorry for being a cunt, but Priest are not even on the radar for "originality". "They had twin lead guitars and a gay..."

Most of Priest is awesome, but i think the 70's stuff is the best. More creative in my opinion. And much darker, which i love the most.
