I live in Aasgaardstrand, Norway, which is the hometown of Edvard Munch. there is a yellow house down almost by the sea, called Edvard Munch street. that is where he lived. tourist guides take trips to and in his house. and I have been in his house, and actually sit in HIS BED! i was only 9 years old when i did but I still remember :D yeah thats pretty awesome! I have also been in one of his studios right by the house.
another great tribute to Munch's works i don't know anyone can not enjoy his work i fell so in love with it that i decided to get "Omega's Eyes" and "The Scream" tattooed into me
hehe. The stolen one was not the one I guarded. There are several pieces of the Scream. The other that was stolen was "Madonna". This was stolen at the Munch museum. I was at the National Gallery.
At 1:37, "Sick Child", who is Edwards sister dying, it was put on the national-gallery when it was new. People where laughing, and the newspapers called it scandalous trash..
Munch challenged all the old-school painters, who was painting with tecknique, no emotions. Edward thought they were amateurs and booring. But it took many years for him before the world "saw it".. But the more daring bohemes backed him up.
Fun thing: For people who doesn`t like or are really interested in art, they do not like Munch. "They" like more national romance, or wery detailed paintings.. And the typichal "the scream is ugly". But how to paint a scream "nice"?? A scream is not calm and "nice" on it`s own.. Edward is one of my favuorites. He even did put his paintings outside to let weather and wind have it`s hand on them. He even put marks with knifes and so on some, to get more into the subject.
Alongside with Van Gogh, he came up(or it came"out") with expressionism. Different from Vincent, Munch got ritch and famous while he lived, but ofcourse he went through mutch of the same as Vincent in many ways. I guarded the "scream" last year. It is screaming really :)
Like when you see a national-romantic painting, details goes first trough the right side of your brain, then the left side, then "to your heart". In expressionism it goes to your right side then "to your heart",it`s simplyfied
Munch's paitings were considered by the Nazis as "Degenerated Art", with many others like Pablo Picasso, Vasilij Kandinskij and Vincent Van Gogh, for example.
That was a great shame indeed, Munch's one of my favourite artists, too much emotive, depressive, deep and empathic.
Some paintings remind me another great artist, Egon Schile, another great talent indeed
This is not quite correct. Munchs art was admired by many germans in the nazistate. The arthistorians are very uncertain about this. A lot of research needs to be done on whether his art was seen as entartet or not. But I share your admiration for Munch.
2:41, The Scream, the greatest Painting of all time. I dont think anyone is even close to it. No one painting can express what the cry can. Its so emotionally strong that I cry everytime I see it.
Eveng though this is not the kind of figurativism that I will do I like it a lot...Edvard Munch.

Munch is one of my favourite painters. I love the way he used simplified shapes, vivid colors, contrasts, lines and drama in his paintings!

Edward bought a photography-camera and said: "It can`t compete with the brush, bechause it cannot be used in hell, or heaven"..
