  • My aunt lives of wavercrest

  • I use to live there

  • Venice is da best. But that guy was a faggot

  • I lived in a wooden box in a Venice parking for the Summer, 1971. No tourists, no vendors, A few hippies, various homeless, it was pretty quiet. But Muscle Beach was there. Also, a small restaurant called the "Driftwood". In the afternoons and evenings some people fished from the pier. With friends I smoked many joints on the beach.

  • I want to live in Venice Beach one day when I graduate from college. :)

  • uh venice is not where arnold got his start in lifting weights!!

  • very good thoroughly enjoyed it

  • I love to skate down there man

  • I love Venice beach me and my husband just went there, there's so much color and great atmosphere

  • The last few times i went to Venice Beach some of the people there were so rude and unfriendly. I think it had something to do with California being broke due to the recession, When you go to Venice Beach it's best to get there around 11:00 am to buy your food and wait on the bodybuilding contest. After the contest walk to your car and leave, Because at 3:00 pm all the thugs, mentally ill, and the alcoholics arrive then its pretty much a wash at that point.

  • We go to Venice all of the time. We went once in January 2010 and for Easter 2010. Now that our children are older that is what we do for Easter. Both times the police had broken up the drum circle several times very early in the day. I realize that the police have to be there for some of the things that go on but I have never seen any trouble there anytime I've been. Numerous vendors have quit going also. We have changed our plans for next year. It's just not the same. Very sad.

  • @nrs4pts Thanks for the update from Venice! That's a bummer that things aren't the same. The drum circle is a part of Venice!

  • @nrs4pts When I went yesterday there were multiple drum circles... it's not different... it's very... lively.

  • @warriorkoala Good to hear the drum circles are back! It wouldn't be Venice without them!

  • haha I never knew Abbot Kinney was a tobacco owner. we learned about him in school back when I lived there :]

  • @mistylolo94 You learn something new every day! :)

  • i lived there for a long while!

  • That's an awesome video. I used to come down there to see the wierdos and have a fun time when I was a young adult. That dude on the roller skates/blades has been there since I was a frequent guest, and I'm 40 now, so you do the math! Anyway, took my teenagers down on a Sunday afternoon a couple of years ago after a weekend at Disneyland. We didn't see much in the way of funny crazy people, and didn't see the dude on roller blades either. Kind of disappointing! Guess they were home asleep!

  • @jesusiseverything2me Thanks! Bummer you missed the exciting people! Summer is usually the best time for the full cast of Venice Beach regulars :)

  • At 1:11...

is that the same "Roller Skatin' Jimi Hendrix" dude that was there in the 80's??

  • Yup! Same dude!

  • Wow! He's been there forever. I can't believe he's still there! Thanks!! Cool vid too, nice job of capturing the atmosphere!

  • great video! i go there every weekend lol

  • As long as I have lived here... I have only been to Venice once.... ? You did a very good job on the video. I really enjoyed it! =) Dating game theme.. haaa awesome.

  • TayTay,

Thanks! Sounds like it's time for you to get back to Venice :)

  • This perspective of Venice Boardwalk is one that is most often promoted with little understanding of what is REALLY happening. Some of the misconceptions perpetrated are the following:

    1) "Vending" in the free speech zone is unlawful..

    2) The "crazies" on Venice Boardwalk are artists and free expressionists.

    3) Opportunistic swap-meet vendors pollute the "free speech zone" with cheap junk made in China!

    4) Venice Boardwalk "free speech zone" is now 99% "commercial vending"

  • Interesting -- I never knew that the boardwalk was a free speech zone -- I always assumed it was designated as a sales area (since there is quite a bit of it!). It did seem like there was more vending on this visit than when I visited perhaps 5 years ago. And there's nothing wrong with being "crazy" -- They're quite entertaining :) Venice wouldn't have the same character without those people.

    Thanks for the education!

  • Fun Fun Fun

  • VERY NICE VIDEO!!
