Imagine this used in the future 'Iron Man 3' trailer! They can probably do it because I did hear the Sabbath one used before I think.. But yeah, 1:04 - 1:57 and just show crazy scenes with Iron Man flying around blowing shit up. How epic would that be?
Sometimes it seems like the group is going between a joke and a hard-core endeavor to transfer the song from one genre's favored instrumentation to a jazz trio. Just in general- not on all their stuff. But I love it either way.
Anyone who believes that this form of art lacks style, rhythm, continuity, sensibility, form, decency, or just thinks it's a pointless, horrible, time-wasting gut-wrenching debauch pile of faux-music garbage...
you cannot compare the Bad Plus and MMW! they are both unique and genial in their own way! (i.e. who is better? Mike Stern, Pat Metheney or John Scofield?) ;o)
@harakyryx virtually ANYTHING adventurous a pianist does can be labeled 'random'. :) Whether or not it was all carefully premeditated note-for-note, well, most likely not, but I've already brought it into 'ponderous' territory there. hehe
@dalisman True, i don't think it's necessary to define "random" right now, even though it is obvious there are multiple perceptions of it. It also depends on which scale are we talking random here : this could be called random improvisation on a theme (restrained, smaller scale); random playing, means much more than this...take, for example, John Zorn's "cobra" game or, some of his live manifestations. That's what I call random...Yet discussions like this are exhaustive and exhausting -Nice song
They should have put this version on the movie. I love that he uses an out-of-tune piano and an in-tune piano at the same time in the intro. I love the major portion--all the fucking annoying little kids who have come up to me after jazz band and asked me, "can you play Iron Man?" need to hear this.
This song is amazing - one of my favorites. They rock it even harder than Sabbath did. Also, I love the major refrain they throw in there. And yes, their drummer is WAY fucking intense. I mean they all are, but, ya know.
hey what do you know? A bunch of fags who don't know shit arguing about who "started" metal. No one person started metal!!!! music is in constant evolution. rock simply and slowly turned more aggressive and dark.
The story goes that due to Tony Iommi of Black Sabbath losing the tips of his fingers and him needing to wear thimbles in order to play guitar, the phrase heavy metal was born.
Respect. A lot of hard rock and progressive bands started to play some harder riffis in late 60s and early 70s but that was not metal. That only caused the creation of metal sound that is harder than hard rock.
hendrix and iron maiden were the beginning of metal. Actually, a reporter went to a hendrix show and wrote, in his review the next day, that it sounded like "heavy metal falling from the sky".

MMW was way better and they aren't really comparable except that they each are the same set-up.
