  • Just curious, how much do these cost today?

  • Sorry yamaha but theres only 2 guitar companys in the world that make the REAL SG. They are Gibson USA and Epiphone period. All others are nothing more than fakes.

  • Hi, did that Kahler trem come originally with the guitar or did you install it? What year is your guitar? I bought one like that, I'm just trying to do some research. Thanks!

  • vintage yamaha sg's better than les pauls

  • I really love the sound of this guitar! You're wonderful guitarist! I hope someday i'll have a guitar to play! Everyday i dream about this! you're lucky man! Keep the Fire! with Love!

  • I really love the sound of this guitar! You're wonderful guitarist! I hope someday i'll have a guitar to play! Everyday i dream about this! you're lucky man! Try on! with Love!

  • hey quick question im deciding of getting one of thes but i dont know which serise the one that ur using or the sbg200 serise ?

  • There's a guy in my local music scene that owns two of these guitars. He claims they're the only guitar that gives him the tone he needs... After seeing this and a couple other videos, I completely understand. Nice fiddle. Nice playing. Cheers.

  • Kahler?

  • What is tremolo?

  • I know Santana Used a Yahmaha but do you know which one specifically?

  • @ox092 He played an sg2000

  • v. nice tone. Did you use any effects or modify the guitar in any way? I own american strat but this guitar is really something :)

  • Nice Yamaha guitar...I Hav a Vintage one for myself...

  • Great tone excellent guitar(I have one 33 years now) and lovley groove many thanks...made my day..Mike

  • I have just sold my 1979 Yamaha SG1500. It was very aged , 31 years old and weighed 3 times more than a les paul.( Believe me , It hurt my back and put my leg to sleep!) The new owner collects theses guitars. I have bought an Ibanez AS73 artcore, basicaly a ES 335 copy and I am having Seymour duncan humbuckers installed in it. It will be a great axe for the price and very light. No more trips to the Physiotherapist !.

  • Did yours come with the whammy?? I need one of those lol..

  • I have an SG1500, the sound is just Zappa and CARLOS! but it is too heavy to play even sitting down and it won't stay in tune. I am selling it after 14 years of owning a CLASSIC!

  • What type of bridge do you have?

  • I've never given much consideration to Yamaha guitars in general; perhaps I have underrated them, this seems to be nice instrument.

  • @Luftwafa Very underrated, shame that they didn't rise in value like other brands though, this is a 1977, so officially a classic!

  • @guitarbyron i dunno, i see the fact they didn't rise in value so much as a good thing for people who want a really nice guitar for a very good price :)

  • @Luftwafa japanese guitars are generally awsome quality, fully comparable with usa made, if not better

  • @Luftwafa when it comes to instruments, Yamaha is great. They clone the best of the best, and manage to get one forth of the original in it. The Yamaha Piano is a clone of The Steinway =)

  • Built in Japanese quality

  • Yahama are renowned for their quality, whether it is a motorcycle, guitar, piano, or jet ski.

  • @Donegaldan yes , very true and their hi fi components are also high quality units.

  • Nice video, the playing on this axe really puts across that Santana souful sound. The note bending and melodic work on the higher notes just sing...

  • John Lee Hooker And Santana -The Healer

  • What is the name of the orignal

song that he's playing and where can i find the backing track :o

  • you sure know how to make a guitar sing...very awesome dude

  • that is sound is INCREDIBLE!! that's the sound i've been searching for! and yes your makin' that baby SING!! take care.

  • Ultimate Yamaha Guitar, thanks for posting. {;o)

  • Very high quality construction...

  • @guitarbyron I agree. Excellent axes.

Very sweet playing . I truly enjoyed your posts

  • Whats your amp settings

  • How much do they weigh? I've always heard that they are heavey, that's why some people do not own them.

  • I forget, but yes, especially with the kahler it's heavy, I wouldn't play it unless I could sit down these days!

  • @12groney

I am selling mine. It is so heavy it is past a joke. It weighs more than 3 les pauls.

  • @taariqtaariq How the balls is that possible? I think mine weighs a bit less than a Les Paul

  • @goldenchopsticks

It is the truth, it has a brass plate under the bridge and is made of a solid piece of mahoganey. It is inhumanely heavy and I am now 40 and can't cope with the weight .

  • @taariqtaariq Ahh maybe it is because yours is 31 years old and mines pretty new...Design changes and what not :P. Well, although on the chunky side, anything for that long lost golden tone right? =)

  • @12groney :they are back breakers!!. the human skeleton is not meant to bear such weight .

  • I paid £UK450 for my 1983 SG1000 back in 2000. Best guitar i've ever owned and still in amazingly good condition.

You can do this sort of thing all day on it.

  • I've had my since new, 1979, not fantastic condition as it saw a few gigs but still lovely...

  • man, you had it in the pocket there. at 1:42..... that was pure orgasm

  • nice job man, sounds like a brand new set of strings! Can you upload that backing track bro it would be much appreciated. Again nice job 5/5.

  • thats one of my dream guitars

  • how much is that guitar?

  • I just saw one on ebay for $1299 but I'm not sure if that's the going rate. Best thing to do would be to read the reviews of the guitar on Harmonycentral to see what other people payed for it!!!

  • about 1200 new I got mine second hand for 750. It's a really nice guitar though

  • part at 1:11 is really awesome

  • Great sound! and nice play!

    nice guitar,you have!(^^)

  • Is that a Bigsby?

  • looks like a kahler ( steel, fender trem look a like vibrato bar )

  • Nope, it's a Kahler...

  • hey nice improv man. Wanted to ask for some advice maybe you would know some chords are so hard to improv over, someone told me it requires making up of different scales when you play even when the note snds like its right but its really not and you really have to listen to the irregular chord changes maybe u can tell me if there is an easier way to improv to those type of progressions. Thanks

  • very nice,I love the Yamaha guitars,once you play one,thats it,your hooked

  • Yamaha SG... The best Guitar

  • that bridge pickup sounds nice.

  • Great track.

    Keep playing, mr blues.

    Jeff Makor

  • Will do...

  • found it on guitarbt . com

    Nice!!

    Thanks again

  • found the name , but not the backing track.

for info, the BT is from: "john lee hooker, the healer"

    bye!

  • I really love this sound... I do not stop listening to it !

What backtrack are you using? Thanks ! ^^

  • I think it is from the Total Accuracy CD. Glad you like it :)

  • Ok thanks for the info. I'll try to find that cd!

Yes I love it, It's very cool ^^

  • not totally accurate though... vibrato could be better.. and mode u lead in didnt suit the chords

  • It was never meant to be accurate. But you are right, it's not my best track. Struggling with old ears and hands sadly...

  • You seem to be getting along just fine! Great vibrato. Only ever seen one of these guitars in a book... Sounds sweet :)

  • They are beautifully made by real craftsmen IMHO.

  • very nice

  • Thank you.

  • You are welcome. Thats really a nice sound !

    I love it :p

  • I have a friend that has a new SBG 1000 and wants to trade for my Gibbson CS336. I know the differances in price but do you know anything about the new ones and how they play? I know they are 2 completely diff. guitars...but how would you compare them both...Oh yeah...very nice playing!

  • I played a new SG2000 recently, was almost identical to my guitar in how it played and sounded, so no worries about that. However, there is no way I'd want to swap either of my Gibsons for one. Have you felt the weight of the SG1000 for instance?

  • Not really...Ive played it, but I was sitting. And like you have said in your comments and others also ..it was definatly heavier. Thank you for your advise..It helped.

  • The single note at 0:38 is awesome! I once heard that Carlos stopped playing the SG2000 coz of it's weight.Take note at how Santana used to constantly move his shoulders when playing towards the end of his concerts. I have many live concerts of Carlos using the SG2000 and at the start of concerts he was fine, but towards the end he always moved his guitar strap etc...

  • I'd never use that guitar live now it has the Kahler, it was bad enough before it is so heavy. I even had a special wide strap made but it would still cut the circulation off to my arm! I'd probably play the Strat for most of anything live, so much more comfortable and versatile. I like the note at 0.47 ;)

  • could you tell me in which concert santana is playing with an SG2000 because ive never saw him with it. Ive only seen him with gibson, prs and yamaha sg-175 budha edition. Thx for answer

  • Check out around the time he released the Moonflower album....

  • @LasCondesSantiago

half a set through a gig with the SG1500 and I am ready for a skeleton transplant. That is why I have sold mine.

  • OK Thanks, she will probably be the next one.

  • Try to find a vintage 2000, nice through neck on those. Check the electrics are ok.

  • Beautiful guitar and nice playing, i would like getting an SG 2000, do you know how is the neck profile on that guitar?. Thanks a lot.

  • They are quite a slim profile, nice hand fit I'd say. One note of caution though, they are heavy!

  • How do you think it compares to your Les Paul VOS?

  • Build quality better, sound not so good, although I'm beginning to wonder if the pickups have lost their edge over time...

  • did you add tremolo? or original?

it looks like the older model with larger head (made before 1978).

  • It's from about 1977, the Kahler was added later (wish I hadn't)....

  • Hello.. My guitar is Yamaha from 1973 and it's a SG1200-S model. Original pickups for Gibson's.

    Marcelo - Brasil

  • I always wanted a SG2000, but they were beyond my reach financially. I think the build quality is fantastic, but my LP and Strat sound better IMHO...the SG sounds dead in comparison, especially when played acoustically....it stills has some good sounds, just doesn't "sing" quite the same. Having said all that, my best solo of all time was recorded on the SG!

  • i have an sg2000 =o

  • I have a 1987 SG2000S (from new). These sustain for days - even acoustically! Mainly due to the Brass plate in the bridge seat/block.

Pickups are mighty powerful and you need a good amp to tame it... I currently have a Cornford Roadhouse and a Pignose G40V, 6L6 valve amp and previously a 59 Bassman which couldn't hold it at all... The Cornford is ideal for rock, the Pignose allows for beautiful moody clean vibes... Oh and I have a Gibson LP - not to be compared, each guitar so different.

  • Hi. I have a Yamaha SG500(1980)....and was lucky enough to get my hands on two Yamaha SG1500's (1977) earlier this year. My buddy has a SG2000(1980). They are all truly awesome guitars.

  • Hi. My guitar is from 1977 and it's a SG1000. A lot of people swapped the original pickups for Gibson's, I tried some myself, but preferred the originals at the time.

  • No, they are the Yamaha humbuckers the guitar came with originally...

  • I have aa mid 80's SG2000S from new... a most understated guitar. BEWARE these are powerful beasts and need the right amp to get the best from them... Beautifully made...

  • I can remember when I first got mine a friend measuring the output of the pups and being amazed to see that it was close to a volt! Personally I don't think anyone makes a guitar with a better finish. Binding on the fretboard etc is perfect.

  • dam nice playing

and i was wondering where i could get one of those and how much it would cost ?

  • Thanks very much. They come up on Ebay from time to time. I've seen original 70's SG2000's going for less than £900 which is close to their cost new!!

  • oh ok thx

do you know any other sites i can find them on besides ebay??

  • They have a re-issue available in some guitar shops, but they have stopped making them, so they might be hard to find....

  • Great.. my guitar is Yamaha SG1200S..

  • They are very good guitars, the finish and attention to detail is unsurpased, much better than my Gibson....

  • Hi. Cornford Harlequin, no effects inline, just some reverb from my mixer...

  • Great sound what are you using for amplification and effects.

    I want that sound

  • Nice!

  • The Yamaha has a fairly slim neck, much thinner than my VOS. You could always try a Rickenbacker, they have very thin necks, so much that I can't play them!

  • Nice playing and cool sound, thumbs up! How does the Yamaha sg neck compare with gibson lp neck? I was considering buying a gibson lp but didn't like their necks, because with my small hands I need a bit thinner neck =) Any ideas?

  • Cool! You play real good and have a cool sound. Nice axe, I'm thinking of getting one of those. Also nice looking Les Paul and Strat in the back. How does the Yamaha compare in terms of quality and playability?

  • Hi. Thanks for the comment....Well, the build quality of the Yamaha is unbeatable IMHO, better than the VOS Gibson. The neck is lovely and can be setup with very low action. But, in comparison the LP is much more alive, the Yamaha sounds very dead when played unamplified, it relies on its pickups to cover that. I also think that the LP has more sustain and the harmonics fly off the fretboard. I tried a new SG2000 recently, and found it to be identical to my vintage SG1000, if that helps at all.

  • Yeah man, thats cool, Thanks. Got a '95 LP Classic myself, but I'm always looking for something new and interesting :-)

  • Well, my new SG-2000 doesn't sound dead at all when playing it unplugged. In fact it has the best unplugged sound I've ever had for an electric guitar (and I have 4 Les Pauls to compare). It's EXTREMELY resonant and alive, with very much sustain. Even my reputable and experienced luthier was totally crazy about the unplugged sound of the SG-2000.

There must be something wrong with your SG-1000...

  • Thanks very much. I have Mullards in my amp.

  • hey! good playing!!! i enjoy that! i've a carrera what your tube on your harlequin??!!

    by by

  • Pretty cool - the Yamaha sounds great. Would be great to hear you play a version of tThe Healer closer to the original as your sound is very close of that Carlos had on the original.

  • I'll have a listen to the original, not sure I know that one too well. I can probably get the sound closer still, the Yamaha has his sound locked up inside ;) I'd really like to do "I'll be waiting" but haven't found a backing track for it yet.
