@BodhranDan, The first tune was recorded by both Kevin Crawford and Christy as part of the "Christy Barry's set", but the tune itself is "The Butlers of Glen Avenue" by Manchester banjo player Tony Sullivan. Another tune by Tony (The Roaring Barmaid) is often mis-labled and recorded under the same title, only adding to the confusion!
@Katharineedmonson, generally if you see me mostly leading with my ring finger on the bass string in the chord shapes, it is drop-D. If I am leading mostly with the middle finger, it is DADGAD. I would hesitate to call this an arrangement; we just threw some tunes together and went for it to see what would happen, and tried not to screw up too much! Thanks for the kind comments. All the best,
Katharine, I di indeed teach workshops, and I am hoping to start doing lessons over Skype soon as well. Send me a PM if you are interested. Please tell Mary I said hi!
lovely music. i will pass info on you videos to irish trad music friends here in the north of england. could i be cheeky and ask you to post some basic dadgad chords in slow motion as i am trying to convert normal tuning guuitar irish back up to dadgad. thanks a mill!
Hey Tom, Thanks for mentioning us to other folks. Appreciate it! The next video I do on guitar I will do in DADGAD and try and show some slow chordal ideas. I have been toying with making a few DADGAD, etc teaching clips. In this video the guitar drop-D, btw. You might find that to be a nice "in between" tuning...cheers! - Zac
That's right, Zac. The second tune in the Christy Barry's set as played by Kevin Crawford on his D Flute Album has mistankenly been named Butlers of Glen Avenue by both Lunasa and Danu. In fact, the actual name for the tune is Roaring Barmaid written by banjoman Tony Sullivan. Not played here, btw.
You guys are both right. What Upkilt is saying is that the tune commonly thought of as "Butlers" is actually the "Roaring Barmaid". The tune we play here is the real "Butlers". Hope that clears things up. Tell Tony he's awesome!
oh thats cool, i started on guitar... still my favorite instrument, but only recently started playing trad music, cause im in a metalcore band... but i just bought a tin whistle and i love it! :D

the first tune is:
the butlers of glen avenue.
tony sullivan is my banjo teacher and he told me the right name.
the roaring barmaid is a different tune.
