I happen to live in the Philippines, and yes, evacuating the 1st flr of our home is routine for us, if troublesome (Try lifting a 40inch standard def TV at the insistence of your mother up 2 flights of stairs).

At the time of this post, water's gone from 1st flr, but damage is still there, and we're back to the usual "sweep mud out" routine.

well sometimes it doesn't pass us but it brings rains and some winds. the only advantage we get is it gets a bit colder. ;)
