This guy lives in his mind, he seems to ignore the fact that almost half of our society are taking from those who produce, they are not giving or investing anything into the system they are only sucking off the producers! Those who produce do care and take care of those who cannot take care of themselves. Americans are not greedy...some maybe, but not all...it goes against G-d to force anyone to give...He gave us choice...no man can take it away...least of all any Government!
Nothing like being told how to live by a scheming jew. These people control the currency issued from the private bank called the Federal Reserve. They devalue the currency, fund themselves and their ideology, which has broken up non-jew families, and destroyed the non-jew family unit. The term "society" represents 2 or more people and absolutely no one is obligated to work together or take from one another. Jews on non-jews, break them down and rebuild them into the slaves the talmud describes.
First, There are hardly any "communists" anywhere in the U.S. None are running anything in the govt. Just a couple of years of Beck and look what happens. Millions of hapless lemmings literally believe a mass communist movement is afoot when its totally nonexistant.
Second, communitarianism is not communism or Marxism. The staggering, mindnumbing ignorance of people, esp. in the US, is extraordinary.
@SocialDemocrats That 's a lie. They're all over the place. Most jews are communists but they won't admit it publicly. COmmunitarianism is simply the merger between the two jewish systems Marx wrote about, communism and capitalism. The way you speak I would have to say you ARE a jew. People are wising up to your scams. It's a dirty shame for you sicko's that the talmud and the encyclopedia judaica are online and downloadable for all the non-jews to see where you are coming from.
These people are seditionists among us - GET OUT - our country has no need for Communists and Marxists and it seems they have infiltrated our government at EVERY LEVEL with this "feel good" community double speak. GET OUT and don't come back!
this has nothing to do with Marxism--- he is the contemporary (todays version) of Emile Durkheim..... this is nothing to do with communism just how people are becoming more and more individualistic and pursuing their own goals and putting nothing back into society..... We need more Communitarianism in our lives... its been proven that places where you know your neighbours has far reduced crimes. How many of you know your neighbours?? :p
@Topper199131 Don't waste your time. Half of the people who watch these videos are average Joe Americans who don't actually hold a higher understanding of politics. Most of them don't even have a basic collegial education. So they'll interpret anything which they don't understand as "Communism." Forgive their horrible ignorance; they don't know much better. Just ignore the simpletons. Etzioni makes many powerful points.

When I think about the "spirit of community", I think about moral panic, therapism, theocracy, racketeering, censorship, social engineering, fraud, deception, conformity, coercion, moral relativism, denial of objective reality, and the mob mentality.
Communitarianism in practice is really a very bad idea.
The "spirit of the community" is such a red herring. But it is convenient because the implementation of a communitarian system is actually very unattractive, and horrifying. It is not really about "caring" and "sharing".
whether you like this guy or not, i think he's our future. his ideas are going to become more and more prevalent in the 21st century, mark my words. it seems the community will inevitably take over the individual, much as the individual overtook the community in the 19th century. bill clinton, george bush, and barrack obama all have subscribed to communitarianism, not liberalism or conservatism.
It is not a matter of the community taking over the individual. It's balancing individual rights with the common good. It's not an easy balance, but it must be achieved for a better and safer world.
Yes, after destroying cultures they remake them to suit their purpose. No, I don't have a bond with this dirtbag zionist creating a global Gaza strip. Sure he approves of the slaughter we committed in the Gulf for the state of Israehell. Iraq is having his communitarian template imposed by the UN whether they like it or not. If you oppose they send a deathsquad.
I agree with Etzioni. Hyper-individualism is destroying our society. Look at the unregulated greed of the marketplace courtesy of the right wing and the left wing's fixation on carrying personal rights to the extreme. We need to restore a balance between the rights of the individual and the well-being of society.
We dont need to regulate "greed" we need to regulate power. Greed can not be a real target because it is too subjective. What we need is a system that works with people who are socialized to be less trusting, and more trust worthy, not less selfish. We need less deception, not less competition. The common good is achieved by producing, not by empathizing.
But the idea that empathy solves more problems than it creates is an idea that I would expect a person with Williams Syndrome to come up with. Some people love machiavellian politics, and some people prefer to avoid politics. It just depends on the skills and comparative advantage of the individual. We really can take human feeling for granted, but the challenge that we are faced with is how to enhance human welfare.

They used to call this kind of rhetoric Communist, now they call it 'communitarian'. There doesn't seem to be much of a difference, but you know 'there's a sucker born every minute!'
They only called the rhetoric communist because they had probably never read Marx and think of anything that differs from neutralist liberalism to be Marxism. Yeah because Aristotle, Montesquie, Cicero and Buber were commies. Get an education.
Proud ??? Of this illegal corrupt war ? Of our inbred imbecile president ???? of these murderous private contractors ??? I m ashamed , embarrassed and disgusted how disgraceful my country has become.
