We dont need to regulate "greed" we need to regulate power. Greed can not be a real target because it is too subjective. What we need is a system that works with people who are socialized to be less trusting, and more trust worthy, not less selfish. We need less deception, not less competition. The common good is achieved by producing, not by empathizing.

But the idea that empathy solves more problems than it creates is an idea that I would expect a person with Williams Syndrome to come up with. Some people love machiavellian politics, and some people prefer to avoid politics. It just depends on the skills and comparative advantage of the individual. We really can take human feeling for granted, but the challenge that we are faced with is how to enhance human welfare.
