Gaddaffi is not exonerated from punishment because he implemented some socialist reforms. Under him, theft could be punished by amputation, homosexuals could get 5 years in prison, dissenters would be publicly executed, and so on. That is tyranny. Not liberty.

Strange how we never saw 'Civilian Protests' thronging the streets prior to the Armed Revolution? If we look at all other genuine revolutionary movements we see a different pattern, there is a steady escalation of protest, usually followed by brutal government suppression, as we saw at the end of Nicolae Ceausescu's oppressive regime in Romania.. Gaddafi was cheered everywhere he went, if full view of his people. This so-called 'Revolution' is yet another US & CIA contrived bloody Coup D'etat!

Hugo Chavez is a dictator disguised as a democrat. There are political prisoners, persecuted, Venezuelans in exile and persons murdered due to their political opinion, and such deaths are also disguised as common crime murders. There are more than 150,000 murders in Venezuela during Chavez regime, and an unknown percentage are political murders.

@1105Chance ~Yes I guess Quaddafi was a bit crazy, for instance he hired Tony Blair for 'consultency work' and we sent him 'exraordinary rendition' prisoners for 'special' interrogation. Then he cancelled a multi-billion Jet Fighter deal with France...and if that was crazy enough, he topped that by not replacing the order with Russian Jet Fighters. Russia would then have placed a veto on the NATO invasion. The Al Quaida Flag now flies over the Court House in Benghazi, our boys return in coffins!

@perther3 I don't automatically support the United States just because I think that Gaddafi and Assad are wicked despots. That is a false dichotomy. Gaddaffi is not exonerated from punishment because he implemented some socialist reforms. Under him, theft could be punished by amputation, homosexuals could get 5 years in prison, dissenters would be publicly executed, and so on. That is tyranny. Not liberty.

I am no fan of Gaddafi, but I am no fan of NATO either. Chavez is right to criticize NATO, however shame on him for supporting Gaddafi and Assad.
That being said, I completely support his "Socialism for the 21st Century" philosophy, and hope he carries it out to its logical conclusion before the Big C gets him.

Strange how we never saw 'Civilian Protests' thronging the streets prior to the Armed Revolution? If we look at all other genuine revolutionary movements we see a different pattern, there is a steady escalation of protest, usually followed by brutal government suppression, as we saw at the end of Nicolae Ceausescu's oppressive regime in Romania.. Gaddafi was cheered everywhere he went, if full view of his people. This so-called 'Revolution' is yet another US & CIA contrived bloody Coup D'etat!

If's funny how Fidel Castro and Hugo Chavez supported the rebels in Egypt because former Egyptian dictator Mubarak was a US ally... Now they totally oppose the Lybian rebels because they overthrew dictator Moammar Gaddafy which happened to be an ally of Castro and Chavez. ( By the way rebels in both countries wanted the exact same thing.....democracy.!!

There were no 'rebels' in Egypt: those were peaceful protesters who made an unarmed defense for democratic elections, the -linear- opposite of the NTC, who imposed their violent rebellion and their own regime on the broad remainder of the country, ignoring the majoritary support for Gaddafi of the population and exacting acts of genocide upon immigrants and Libyans of Sub-Saharan origin - what kind of "democracy" is this, that already sold the Libyan oil before even being elected?

@Bazompora The movement in Lybia started just the same as in Egypt. What did Gaddafi do? He started killing people and threw his army at them. The people of Lybia had no choice but to fight back . They're tired of Gadaffi's 40 something years in power abusing the Lybian people and governing them by means of intimidation. This is about the Lybian people and their quest for freedom and democracy, let's leave out the same rethoric about oil that the left likes to use so much.

What "left"? It is "your left" that turned this in a total war: it were Clinton and co that decided to make a beachhead for American oil interests by recruiting leaders for the "rebels". The dissent was isolated to the east of Libya only; the 'quest' to "free" the whole of Libya is none other than a 'conquest' of the pro-Gaddafi west by the anti-Gaddaffi east. They should have seceded when Gaddafi proposed a cease-fire; but Hillary said Gaddafi had to go, ignoring half the people.

@themailman43 One of them where armed, the other was not, plus the war in Libya has killed 50,000 people.That is directly because of NATO and all sides, I'm sure Chavez knows that Gaddafi was also doing crimes but he is thinking about the satbility of the world and how many innocent people will die, 50,000 is too many.It would of been less if they went ahead with a peace plan which Chavez asked for.
