Brings me straight back to those Saturday nights on CBS tv during the 60's! - sitting on floor in front of big b&w console Admiral TV.....Sammy Spear, Frank Fontaine, The June Taylor Dancers, Joe the Bartender.....Jackie was a great talent. How sweet it was!
I am aware that this is different than the version that's used in the intro for his show, but both version are very lovely pieces to play. This and many other Jackie Gleason songs, especially his version of Misty, really puts me in acalm mood.
Thank you for this wonderful download. I am a huge Jackie Gleason/Honeymooners fan and he was very talented. My late father reminded me of Jackie Gleason. It's too bad that there's not more information on him, for you and other fans, in Japan. I believe his last film was "Nothing in Common" with Tom Hanks. It was a very emotional movie and no other actor, but Jackie Gleason, could have played the role of Tom Hanks father. Thank you so much!!!
"Jackie Gleason demonstrated a serious facet of his many talents when he composed this beautiful melody which became the theme of his highly successful television show."
Thanks for uploading this masumihanasanta! Thank You.
With the possible exception of Bob Hope and "Thanks for the Memories," never has a theme been as associated with an entertainer as this one, with Gleason. Gorgeous.
@chenarch - This was the first, definitive recording, made in January 1953 and originally credited to Jackie Gleason and His Concert Orchestra. (The other recording, featured on "The Best of Jackie Gleason" compilation LP [Capitol (S)W-2796] and set in the key of A-minor, was a re-recording [made in 1959] and originally issued on his LP "Opiate D'Amour.") In many ways, this was as much a signature tune of The Great One as "Love's Theme" was for Barry White and his Love Unlimited Orchestra.
@wheatonna - I've wondered if at least the essence of Barry White's "Love Serenade (Part I)" (1975) was loosely based on this tune (more on the order of the strings and their melodic progression as White was saying "I don't wanna feel no clothes...I don't wanna see no panties...and take off that brassiere, my dear...")
How many people came to this video because of it's use in The Sopranos? I bought the series box set a while ago and was watching the episode 'In Camelot' and heard trhis lovely piece of music during the credits.
he actually hummed the music that he had in his head to some of the people he hung out with that knew how to read and write music if i remember correctly.
This theme, along with the "Honeymooners" theme, is among the first music I remember hearing from the TV set when I was a boy - in the 50s'! LL JG & Co!
