  • Love this version - it's on my itunes. My first introduction to this song was a version by Laurindo Elmaida & Sally Terri that I had on cassette tape!

p.s. - my favourite Bonney tune? Bach's 'Coffee Cantata' (Heute Noch). Outstanding!

  • @agcity1

BB's version is stellar. I have BB singing Bach's Heute Noch on my channel, I dedicated to my mother, she really loved her coffee :D

Thank you for commenting, please feel free to check out all of BB videos on this channel.

  • We had to sing this in choir. My teacher said I sounded like Bonney ;~;

  • @slyfertail

Your teacher just handed a great compliment !!!

Best wishes in all your musical endeavors.

  • Bonney ALWAYS delivers: taste, technique, subtlety, flawless tone, and amazing vulnerability. She ventures into the world of Elizabethan lute songs and gives a totally convincing rendition, free from anomalies of the other periods of music that she sings so admirably. That she is a household name in the world of classical music is beyond me.

  • @zanderary

I believe that you left out the word 'not' in your last sentence....right?

  • @acatalano2641 Yes! Thank you for pointing this out!

  • @zanderary

I figured it was just a typo. The brain is faster than the fingers :) Thanks for your comment and for viewing Ms. Bonney's video.

  • looking for this great song i came across sting singing it - please!! - fortunately i then found this wonderful version!!!

Nothing like listening to Ms. Bonney sing...it's like having a glimpse of what heaven will be like :)

  • What a gifted soprano! She can express every word the composer had in mind.

  • @franklindavid

There is no doubt in my mind that Ms Bonney is an extraordinary artist.

  • Yes I agree....both the song and the singer :)

  • so beautiful as always

  • how old she now?

  • @jikustik

Ms Bonney is a vigorous 54 year old woman :)

  • Beautiful, but the pictures are kind of weird

  • @wolfwolfenstein

    The photos are from:

Mozart - La Clemenza di Tito / Dorothea Roschmann, Michael Schade, Barbara Bonney, Elina Garanca, Vesselina Kasarova, Nikolaus Harnoncourt, Salzburg Opera (2003)

  • My heart opens to the sweet melodies of this poem made into music...dreaming awaken is really the best of ourselves...thanks for giving us the correct transportation toward meeting again with our almost forgotten best thougths...there, deep in our souls....

  • i dont think there are angels that can sing like she does thanks god for make voices like this

  • @bsedful

I don't think that you have heard any heavenly angels lately but in hearing Ms Bonney's beautiful voice you have heard an earthly angel's voice.

    Thank you God.

  • This version is The Best of The Best!!! :)))

  • @zaardele

    I agree 100%

  • @zaardele It is indeed!

  • For some reason I've been listening to every Youtube submission I can find of John Dowland's "Come again, sweet love doth now invite". This one is about my favorite. I think it's amazing that there are so many ways to perform this piece. I like Sting's version a lot too!

  • @Birdsong16

Ms Bonney was born to sing "Come again, sweet love doth now invite" :)

  • @Birdsong16 -I am right behind you in every respect. Sting is doing for Dowland what George Harrison did for Indian music, it seems.

  • Oh Yes!

  • What a great song

  • @Belerophone1975

    For sure :)

  • I usually don't like female classical singers because they are harder to understand a lot of the time, but this is incredible! Soooo gorgeous!

  • @theoperaman02

I hope that Ms Bonney has opened a new door for you.

    Yes soooooooooooooo gorgeous :)

    Thank you.

  • The perfection of PERFECTION is this incredible VOICE.!!!

  • @karmakomodia

  • I love you, Barbara !

  • @musikantiano

I hope that Ms Bonney sees

    your comment :)

  • Could this interpretation be more perfect???

  • I do not believe so...BB sings this with sheer perfection.

    Thank you.

  • Love Dowland

  • I love how Ms Bonney

    interprets Dowland.

    It's a good match.

    Thank you.

  • This woman's voice is perfection!

  • Yes...Sheer Perfection :)

    Thank you.

  • simply perfect!

  • Most definitely :)

    Grazie.

  • I've been listening to many versions of this song and I think that this is the best one I heard

  • beautiful

  • Another amazubg rendition by this great singer/artist. Thanks for continuing my education/appreciation of Ms, Bonney.

  • I had to sing this song for an audition once. It's a lovely piece.

  • A love piece sung by a lovely singer :)

  • She's the best singer in the world! I can't believe I just found out about her today. Can you reccomend any CDs of her that I can get on itunes?

  • I agree with you 100% :) The CDS that I would recommend are: The Radiant Voice of Barbara Bonney Barbara Bonney - Mozart Lieder Exultate, Jubilate Barbara Bonney sings Mozart Franz Schubert: Lieder Erste Begegnung (First Encounter) Who am I kidding? Ms Bonney has made over 100 recordings they are all great...all are gems....take your pick and enjoy :)
  • we sang this at our last choir concert,

    mads rules (x

  • Cool :)

  • BB's intelligence and empathy convince!

  • Ms Bonney thoroughly studies her work

before singing a note, that's why all her

    recordings are stellar :)

    Thank you.

  • What a beautiful voice she has... she is just made to sing this.

  • I agree on both accounts :)

  • Beautiful!

  • Undoubtedly beautiful ; )

    Thank you.

  • i love this song

  • Me 2

    Thank you :)

  • =]

    i will

  • my singin teach too lolz

  • Ms Bonney is the best

    you can learn much from

    her vast experience.

    Thanks.

  • haha my singing teacher (is that what it's called???) gave me this today as homework xD..

  • That's good...take a lesson from

Ms. Bonney and you will do well :)

  • Ahhhhh. :) I can only smile happily.

Just a note: the final line of the last stanza begins with "Did" rather than "Do"; I only noticed because her diction is so precise (and delicate)(and perfect)(did I mention that I think she's perfect?)(She is perfect.. :D)

  • Yes, smile and drink in the voice.

I've seen both versions of the song,

some have "did" and some have

    "do." Perfection = BB's voice.

    Thank you :)

  • I LOVE HER VOICE!

  • Me too :)

  • Her voice is a legacy! for every generation to come.

  • I agree with you 100%.

    Thank you.

  • thank you so much for the Booney posts'
