My argument has been and always will be that if you'd like to protest something, organize peacefully, get a permit, and don't make a spectacle out of it. If you have a good message you don't need to agitate the police so that they arrest you and then hope you getting arrested will bring attention to your cause. That's the easy way out. They are breaking the law, the land they are on is public but that gray box is not. If those companies have the right to put their box on public property, it is not a crime to put a poster on it. Public property is MY property as well as yours. No business can just put a box somewhere and say don't touch it.
I'm sorry, but no matter how you cut it they were defacing someone else's(weather it be the governments or the electric companies) property and that is illegal. Also, the reason why that box is there is because the town official(s) which were voted in to represent the people in that city allowed it to be there. Another thing is that you need to get permission to do such things like advertising or what have you and that group had obviously no permission to place those posters.
It is not defacing if it leaves no permanent marks. Anything not on private property is open to posters. In such times resistance is necessary, we can't just stay quiet.

My argument has been and always will be that if you'd like to protest something, organize peacefully, get a permit, and don't make a spectacle out of it. If you have a good message you don't need to agitate the police so that they arrest you and then hope you getting arrested will bring attention to your cause. That's the easy way out. If these people really wanted to make a change they'd work hard and organize meetings rather than organize screaming in public and annoying people.

I'm sorry, but no matter how you cut it they were defacing someone else's(weather it be the governments or the electric companies) property and that is illegal. Also, the reason why that box is there is because the town official(s) which were voted in to represent the people in that city allowed it to be there. Another thing is that you need to get permission to do such things like advertising or what have you and that group had obviously no permission to place those posters.
