Here's the background story: I do not recall the pilots name. An Army platoon was basically under heavy fire from close combat and called in strikes virtually on their position. This pilot and another made several strafing runs allowing this platoon to take over control of the firefight. A short period after the end of this video (not in this video) this pilot was shot down by anti-aircraft fire. This very same platoon rescued him and after he ejected. Sorry I don't have the names.

There is something surprising in this video; according to US oficial papers, no single existing AA missile or SAM can -ALONE damage an A-10 so severely to stop the fly, because there are multiple redundant systems and titanium bathub is supposed to be bullett-proof as far as 30mm. How did the enemy shoot it down? They should have fired dozens of stingers...

In Microsoft Flight simulator their F/A-18 goes over MACH 2.0 but In real life any ground attack payload prevents it from being supersonic! And it's a horrible fighter, ask ANY F/A-18 Pilots!

This isn't the HUD tape from the A-10 that was shot down in OIF. This was from another mission about the same time and these guys made it back. Someone simply took this HUD tape and attached the story about the A-10 that was shot down.

Just to point out a few things here - when the camera feed appears distorted it is down to the vibrations of the cannon fire, not the AAA (This is common in any A10 HUD footage).
When the film goes black the airplane has not been 'shot down'. Watch any black box camera footage and you'll see that when a feed ends short it will static out because the feed from the camera has gone, the recorder survives the crash (That's what it's meant to do)

@Gladioter1903 I hear the dutch have VERY strict rules of engagement. When I was there the soldiers had to invent reasons to go out and support other nato countries on the ground because the government wouldnt let them off base.
Dont be too hard on the pilots I can imagine its the higher ups making those decisions. When you dont have too many of them why use them in another country when they would be needed if ever the home country gets invaded.
@Gladioter1903 it's much more dangerous for a helicopter providing CAS than it is for fixed wing aircraft especially with the lack of anti air weapons in Afghanistan and Iraq. Takes balls either way but rotary wing has to worry about everything from rocks to aks. Still the Apache pilots should be aggressive and help the guys on the ground because God knows they need it.

@minerofblood All Infrared missiles are passive, so there isn't any detection system which will warn you that missile is heading toward you. On the other side, it's DLZ is short - cannot be launchet in BVR mode.
@teknobug there are actually detection systems for IR missiles; they detect the hot exhaust plume from the missile and provide warning to the pilot and can automatically dispense flares.
@sldfnslkxxlk Do you have any source of this information? I'm really a plane enthusiast and I didn't hear about that. I also fly Falcon simulator with a squadron. As i know, there isn't any detection of launched IR missile except your wingman which will check your 6 clock. Do you know that AIM9's engine burst for 10 seconds? All the path to the target is a glider? Burn time for all rocket engines are withing few seconds, they give just big energy punch to that missile.

There was a big bruhaha over it here in the States also. A lot of us were PISSED that they didn't properly VID the targets before engaging. One of the pilots repeatedly expressed his doubts, yet he was still cleared in.

Notice when the camera screws up, the next thing you see is him doing a hard turn. This was obviously film, not digital. When a warplane pulls a lot of Gs, sometimes the film jumps off the guides a bit.
Also if there was a missile impact and electronics still worked (like the HUD) there would be a TON of audio alarms going off. All I hear is the G indicator.

A3) All of those HUDs have unique characteristics to the given aircraft. For example, you don't see a G-meter on the top-left of this HUD like you see in F16/F18/etc.

@anisocoro Actually no, a single missile can rip off a wing and the plane goes down pretty fast. There is STRONG propaganda around aeroplanes in the U.S. and I have 2 examples.
1: They claim the F-15 is the best fighter ever made in the world but the French Rafale kicked his ass hard.
2: They claim the F/A-18 is supersonic, goes over MACH 1.8 but the truth is that the airframe breaks at MACH 1.8, the actual performance is equal to the SU-25. Not that the SU-25 is bad either..

In Microsoft Flight simulator their F/A-18 goes over MACH 2.0 but In real life any ground attack payload prevents it from being supersonic! And it's a horrible fighter, ask ANY F/A-18 Pilots!

The F-4, F-14, F-15, f-16 and yes the f-18 (why did Canada, Australia, Finland Switzerland, and Spain buy the f18)? Also there is the c-130, c-17, b52. The only major problem the f18 had was some somewhat limited range why would you even go supersonic with a full bomb payload you lose range lots of range.

Shit, Most of us here (including myself) would probably have said "We are getting AAA and I do see the tank. Request clearance to GET THE HELL OUT OF HERE when able." Alot different when someone is actually shooting back at you. This pilot is fearless, or crazy (depending how you look at it). Good job though. I'd buy him a beer if I met him :)

This isn't the HUD tape from the A-10 that was shot down in OIF. This was from another mission about the same time and these guys made it back. Someone simply took this HUD tape and attached the story about the A-10 that was shot down.

Shot down or not there been enough A-10 shot downs reports ...kosovo,iraq. Yes this plane can withstand alot of punishment but lucky shot can take it down too.Its still only a plane .

Just to point out a few things here - when the camera feed appears distorted it is down to the vibrations of the cannon fire, not the AAA (This is common in any A10 HUD footage).
When the film goes black the airplane has not been 'shot down'. Watch any black box camera footage and you'll see that when a feed ends short it will static out because the feed from the camera has gone, the recorder survives the crash (That's what it's meant to do)

@Gladioter1903 it's much more dangerous for a helicopter providing CAS than it is for fixed wing aircraft especially with the lack of anti air weapons in Afghanistan and Iraq. Takes balls either way but rotary wing has to worry about everything from rocks to aks. Still the Apache pilots should be aggressive and help the guys on the ground because God knows they need it.

Infrared missiles and AAA are the most deadly, you don't know if an infrared missile is following you in most cases, AAA thats not radar guided you can only see tracers.
the pilots who fly these have massive BALLS of steel, skill and guts, this plane isn't a billion dollar flying god but a simple low tech box which can rape anything on the ground.

@minerofblood All Infrared missiles are passive, so there isn't any detection system which will warn you that missile is heading toward you. On the other side, it's DLZ is short - cannot be launchet in BVR mode.

As i know, there isn't any detection of launched IR missile except your wingman which will check your 6 clock. Do you know that AIM9's engine burst for 10 seconds? All the path to the target is a glider? Burn time for all rocket engines are withing few seconds, they give just big energy punch to that missile.

This is the same HUD video from the accidental strafing of that British Armored unit; you know, those guys who advanced so far ahead of their lines that our guys though they had spotted Iraqi Mechanized units trying to get away? Wasn't there a big brouhaha over that incident in the UK?
And oh, I've met KC, a real A-10 driver who got HER bird shot-up, including by a SAM, but not shot-down and flew it back to Kuwait. This vid is nothing of the sort.

There was a big bruhaha over it here in the States also. A lot of us were PISSED that they didn't properly VID the targets before engaging. One of the pilots repeatedly expressed his doubts, yet he was still cleared in.
Despite some pilots making it back with holes in their wings, some A10s do go down. Even tanks can be killed. Dodging SAMs is hard work> watch?v=2uh4yMAx2UA

Notice it says "POSSIBLY shot down". This is not fake, but I don't think he was hit. There's no indication of it.
Notice when the camera screws up, the next thing you see is him doing a hard turn. This was obviously film, not digital. When a warplane pulls a lot of Gs, sometimes the film jumps off the guides a bit.
Also if there was a missile impact and electronics still worked (like the HUD) there would be a TON of audio alarms going off. All I hear is the G indicator.

In the report will be Pilots Name, Rank etc. The Aircraft he was flying, call sign, area of operations, It is a very comprehensive and detailed Report. This also includes all video of the Head UP Display and video Evidence of the Action from other aircraft. Q: So where is the REPORT?? Do YOU Have a Copy? I don’t think so!! IT’S FAKE!! A2) REAL, as opposed to fake. This is not animated or staged. This is actual video footage of an event that occurred in REAL life. I'm sorry if you're too stupid to understand that.
A3) All of those HUDs have unique characteristics to the given aircraft. For example, you don't see a G-meter on the top-left of this HUD like you see in F16/F18/etc.
