A cat will outrun most v-bottoms, on calm water, horsepower for horsepower. In the rough stuff a V can handle it better than a cat. As far as racing goes, I think Fountain is the baddest ass MOFO, that ever went throttles down offshore. I wish I could get trained by him. I would pay any amount.

This was a poker run not a race, but the Mercedes Benz MTI ran 195 with the same engines that Reggie ran 177 with, and ran this poker run with. Gino was not there to race, just to have fun. I tell you what, Fountaingurl, let's line MB and that Fountain up and see who runs the fastest. I know which boat I would put my money on...

Like others have said, this is pure apples to oranges right here. Cool vid but a race boat vs poker runners of course it's going to pull the win. Not to mention the fact it probably has at least 5 to 700+ MORE HP then the rest of the boats in the run. Fountains are nice boats, but not that nice for the cost for me.

You know, I think Reggie Fountain should ask himself this question: am I helping or hurting the high performance boating industry. A video like this cannot help because it's a FRAUD. Reggie is a legend, and his raceboats rule their classes, but this is just deception pure and simple. Speedracer was not there to race, they had coolers full of ice and the usual stuff you would bring to a poker run.

It's 171mph. This year, he ran the Cat Killer between 172 and 177mph. That's with Sterling 1550's. The numbers show who's faster. Another thing you must remember... when you compare a Cat to Reggie's V-hull make sure you aren't comparing a gas engine to an alcohol engine. Of course there is going to be a difference. If Reggie dropped some jet engines in his V-Hull's he would still stomp the yard. Sorry cat owners... yours cats are going to be killed... please prepare.

I was at the 2008 Shootout today and for all of you who think cats are faster than V's prepare for a blow. David Scott's Bud Light #11 did 168 with 3000hp. Reggie Fountain will be at the shootout TOMORROW. The reason he didn't bring the Cat Killer this year is because he blew up an engine last week. I had dinner with him tonight and last night and we talked about it. He is getting his Sterlings re-built as we speak. But take a look at the V-Hull world record.

Powerboat mag tested a 42MTI with 1075s and it ran 153@WOT. They tested a Skater39 V bottom with 1075s and it ran 133@WOT. In fact, if the Skater and Fountain, both with 1075s, raced against each other I would put my money on the Skater.

That's not to dog on Reggie, you can't deny the products he brings to market. Nobody has more trophies in the highly competitive offshore racing V bottom classes than Fountain. But I bet the Skater V would be faster even than the 38' Fountain.

This is a poker run, not a race! The Fountain team came with a race boat, a full crew and more than likely, their own race fuel. Cat or not, all of the high-powered boats come to poker runs de-tuned mainly because the octane in PUMP GAS limits how much boost they can run. The Bacardi Silver Skater cat ran 202mph with the same motors Reggie has in his "cat killer". Lets compare apples to apples here.

Fact: A 24 degree deep V is more stable in rough water. Cats have the advantage in smooth water. In this video, the Fountain clearly wins the race...this time.

Opinion: Deep V's are more visually appealling and more stable, overall. I'll take a Fountain over a cat any day of the week.

The big cats like my buddys 46' skater 1996 with twin 1800hp turbines will do 165gps open cockpit seats 6 has a cabin with two queen size beds, and a head, That boat will do a 100 to 110 in real 6 footers , the boats weight is 13,000lbs in 3 to 4 footers you could fall a sleep at 100. which is its cruise speed thats a 1/4 throttle. a small cat under 30 feet will have troubles in 6 footers

I was at this run myself, and that boat was very fast! Reggie can be over the top and I can understand how people got upset at this little PR stunt. Speed Racer did break and was running smaller pulleys to run pump gas and he wasn't too happy about being in this vid. Also, notice the boat more closely, it's really a 46', they cut off the beak as it created too much bow lift.

Go to SBI's official website and look at the 2007 WC results; the fastest boat (in Key West) was actually the Superboat Unlimited cat, Bud Select. On average it was 20mph faster than the #1 Superboat VEE Unlimited boat, Shogren Fountain. Bacardi Silver did not race.
