10:25 It's just typical, isn't it? Seve actually finds the middle of a fairway, then duffs one in the water as a result of probably the worst iron shot he hit in his peak years! If he'd been in the rough, he'd probably have blasted it over the water to inside three feet - and in all seriousness, I wouldn't have put that past him at all!
i think his caddie is his son? and his caddie at the masters this year, well for the par 3 contest at least, was his sons son, because they have the exact same body type,
even though he misclubbed on 18 and bob tway's bunker shot beat him (not sure who won the us open in 86) 86 was a great year for norman. one of the few golfers who ever made a pretty good legit run at the grand slam. he led every major after the third round that year.
@templedown I don't consider Norman making a "pretty good legit run at the grand slam" that year...the hardest part about winning a major is cloing the deal on Sunday...just cause he led after 54 holes in all four doesn't mean he threatened to win the slam that year...he only closed the deal in the British...I'd say Tiger winning 3 majors in 2000 was more of a run at the slam than Norman in '86 even though Tiger didn't really contend in Augusta that year...
One more equally strange anecdote: Jack's signature putt on 17 breaks ever-so-slightly from his left to his right. He has said -- and other pros who've tried the putt concur -- that the putt has never broken that way since (it actually goes right to left).
Awesome post...of all these spine-tingling moments, the one that seems to get lost is how unbelievably prophetic Tom Weiskopf's analysis is just before Jack pulls the trigger on 16 tee. "This is your destiny," "make the swing you're capable of making," etc. Incredible.
Love the old footage. The thing that was most amazing about Jack's big win was he truly earned the win. The other contenders that day (Kite, Norman and Ballesteros) all had decent rounds. There was no epic collapse from the leaders. Jack just beat the best for the jacket. What a leaderboard! Nicklaus, Kite, Norman, Price, Ballesteros, Langer and Watson. They're all Hall of Famers. What a special moment.
@grislyfind i can't really agree with that, ballesteros collapsed and kite and norman only needed par on 18 to force a playoff, both of them blew it, and there were 5 total players who started sunday with better scores than nicklaus, so while he played incredibly, deserving of a win, i would have to say that the rest of the field lost, rather than jack beat them
@BRIANisALRIGHT Hi. I understand your point but I think that every golfer shot under par that day and if Jack does not shoot 65 he doesn't win. Nickluas went out and won that tournament.
@BRIANisALRIGHT Nicklaus shoots a 30 on the back 9 at Augusta in the final round; and you say Jack didn't beat the field? Ask a golfer like Woods how HUGE that is.
@BRIANisALRIGHT ummm, he was 7 under across 9 holes on the back. and that is not Jack winning in in your book? had to play flawless golf under the most pressure of the tournament in front of the biggest crowd. i hate the "we lost it you didnt win it" mentality in sports. guy shoots a 31 on the back 9 on sunday and youre making it sound like the rest of the field gave it to him. stupid logic.
Thanks very much for uploading this video. Each year when The Masters Tournament is on, I think of the 1986 miracle Masters. The year we saw Jack's magic once again. He will always be the greatest player that ever played the game.
It doesn't get any better than this. I hope you don't mind if I use this vid for my channel? Yes sir!!
