Hi. How are you? Have you ever noticed when turning the fxloop on with the footswitch that there are a little volume drop and that the treble dissapears a little. I have noticed that on my head. Can it be the tubes or some other thing?
AHhhh the ole tape trick once again eh?...Yeah...I used ot have the Peavey models. I have had many marshalls in my day. Laney-Mesaboogie-Fender.. Now it's these Fenders and I have two of them with their cabs. They are my favorite amp. I loop both of them with two Digitech GSP 1101s. I use channel 3 and the noise reduction cleans things up in the GSPs. I have the gain setting on 3 about 3/4s the way up.
Marshalls will not do all that these will by themselves.
You painted your Face cage stripes white? I have two of these on the EVH Cabs. I use both on Channel 3 with the gain backed off a bit. Sometimes Ch 2. And Ch1 is classic too but I don't use it that much. I have looped in the back Lexicon MX400s and two Digitech GSP 1101s. The noise reduction in the GSPs is very nice. So is my feedback!
@AldridgeHalenFreak Yeah I just used white tape! lol totally reversible. I actually wanted to get rid of the stripes and just put a block 5150 in the middle because I liked the look of the old ones more. This amp is awesome though, especially through the evh 4x12 cab. I max out the blue channel on very loud and get a close plaxi Marshall brown sound through the 4x12
Nice playing mate! Channel 3 is the best to my ears..and actually could do with a second master for solo boosts.
Channel 2 is nice for rock, but lacks for metal, so in my case I would use channel 3 for everything..thus the need for a volume boost. (I was close to buying one of these but went with the ENGL Powerball, which offers sparkling cleans and brutal gain...with a secondary master volume.. ..that said I love the VH tones and IMO you cant beat a EVH head for that :) Again, great playing!
@ebayisajoke well, I've had all versions and i can genuinely say that the peaves were quite different in neck and pickups. The body and toggle are pretty much identical but that's where the similarities end.
@atomicfile2 The Blue light is Gain 1 or Crunch (the classic Marshall tone) and its my fav of the amp. It emulates EVH's early Plexi Marshall tone to perfection when cranked at gig volumes.
maybe the best review i've seen from anyone, you showed the versatility of both the amp and guitar in one review. Not to mention the talent it took to play all of this stuff too. Definitely the best demo i've seen of this amp/guitar thank you very much
This amp sounds great on every channel to me, I play metal but I love playing more rock sounding and 80's shred stuff, this amp sounds perfect for that!
@chickabuka Great guitar, reminds me of the Musicman axis more then the old peavey wolf specials. The tone and wood are fantastic, the only thing I would (and might) change is the bridge pick up is a bit weaker then the Dimazio's I'm used to. The neck pup is superb, just as good as a paf pro but I like my bridges hotter.
Awesome demo of a great amp.*****I still haven't grown tired of my 5150 mk2 that I got over a decade ago, so I haven't wanted to spring for this one (ha,ha). I actually prefer channel 2 (sounds like the most versatile one to me anyway). To me, it sounds like with this channel you could roll back the guitar vol. knob & mabye add a bit of chorus and achieve an "old-school" clean while simultaneously being able to add a bit of overdrive pedal to the front end and achieve the classic VH brown sound.
@5150RDH thanks dude. i've played all the 5150's in the past, really like em. I do prefer the way the old ones had the big block 5150 logo on the front, not keen on the massive E V H logo. Should i take it off? I can unscrew the front panel leaving just the mesh grill...
@davet247 Nah, I'd leave it on...it's instantly recognizable! I actually like how the stripes on your front panel are painted white to match the control panel (makes 'em stand out) whereas on most 5150iii's they're just black.
Very good playing! an excelent demo showing what this amp head is capable of doing...I own this head and run it through a Marshall full stack 1960 cabs.
Just for kicks...I use only two pedals through the back loop, delay and reverb, that's it....
I have all three MXR eVh pedals running up front with MXR analog chorus (blue color) and MXR 6 band EQ...occasionally I use a Guyatone sustainer D... this is all you need.
The gain in this amp is amazing...Each channel is golden.
To be honest I actually dig all the channels equally. Since my taste change depending on the mood (or the moment), it's hard for me to single out any of the channels.
I will admit that I'm definitely digging the EVH 5150 iii Amp, was it pricey ?

By the way, is the amp a little noisy??
Thanks!!

How do you like the black finish? I can't decide what finish to get
suzuki15 1 month ago
@suzuki15 love the back finish as it matches most other cabs and makes the white pop out more. Also looks less dirty when giged extensively.

Yeah! Decadance!
I love the demo, great samples and playing! I would probably live in channel 1 or 2, but channel 3 does sound wicked for high-gain stuff!

@JonT2000 Channel 1 is pretty much the most versatile, believe it or not I use it the most for band songs.
