Someone should make a video showing the Amiga's features alongside the Mac's, then we'd see who the real innovator was. Apple loves to rewrite computer history.
hey, uh RaggedTiger70. Apple 1 came out 10 years before Amiga did. And apple did a better job. The graphical user interface ( like windows, icons, toolbars...etc) was Apple's idea and if it weren't for them, windows would still operate with commands. so, ehh, study before you speak of something so wrong.
wat i meant to say was that , and also ... steve jobs said that his look of the GUI was completely different from the one of Xerox and it had flaws... but ya ur 100 percent right... they licensed it and adapted it from Xerox! :D sorry....
Macintosh is even now available for people who have trouble seeing. OS X has always had a magnifier (Zoom Utility under Universal Access in System Preferences) but starting in Tiger, there's now the Voice Over utility. No, it's not a utility for creating voice overs for Final Cut, it's a screen reader. My iBook has it and, like every other part of the Mac, IT JUST WORKS (unlike 3rd party screen readers for Windows that choke up from time to time).
The "Quantum Foam" (I think) wallpaper on Mac OS 9 is strangely reminiscent of Aqua wallpapers, particularly those in the very early Mac OS X - particularly at 2:50.
Lolzor. I even prefer Linux to Mac. I prefer just about anything to Mac. There is nothing, in my eyes, special about Mac. Nothing. They based their system off of UNIX, and coasted on UNIX's success. The only thing they have going for them is the hardware, and this shows in the amount of iPod sales. If Apple are ever to rule the COMPUTING market, they need to widen their horizons and drop prices, fast. OK - rant over.
Well, to most people there is something special about Macs, all you Microsoft ignorants and noobs love Microsofts monopoly and macs are selling at 3x the average rate of PC sales so start saying some real facts. btw, Leopard is fully UNIX compliant while Linux is still not so just stfu and Apple has already gotten their prices low enough and that's why more people are buying Macs now, Micronoob
What? Linux has as much UNIX at heart as Mac OS X, if not more. Seriously, you need to shut your trap and stop talking bullshit. Try using Google once in your lifetime, you might learn something.
Side by side comparisons with identical specs across the board - example - all-in-one computers, or even top end highly powerful professional models.... you'll find that the Macs actually come out - less expensive. The only exception would be the line of laptops. But that isn't stopping the masses from flocking to them. They are just brilliant computers top to bottom and inside and out. I own an iMac btw.
They are more secure, have more features out of the box (and before windows copies them) and are easier to use. Not to mention the computers and the OS look sleek ;-)
Macs are not more secure; the security model is full of flaws. Sure, there are less [read=no] viruses currently in the wild for OS X, but that doesn't automatically mean the machine is hard to "hack".
Macs don't get viruses because they are a fully UNIX complaint system and they can't get viruses because they don't allow any modification to the kernel unlike Windows
you like all idiot Microsoft fanboys don't know what UNIX is and that is why you say that Macs can get viruses, do i have to repeat it again?
Macs don't get viruses because they don't allow any program to modify or change anything in the kernel and because the virus has to have administrator permission and a password, so stfu, also, Windows NT had a lot of security flaws
The difference is here, you are obviously a Mac fanboy - I'm not. And I proved that by my trap - if you had taken all of 5 seconds to visit my profile, you'd see that I run both PCs and a Mac. FYI, I have Panther coming in the post, too.
Next time you go to open your mouth? Shut it again.
FYI#2: There aren't yet any Mac OS X viruses in the wild. THAT's why they don't get any. Because there are none.
Idiot, there are none because people can't create them, do i have to repeat it again, they can't make them because THEY ARE FULLY UNIX COMPLIANT and i may be a fan but i know what I am talking about and you don't now, stfu
you are the only one here that is insecure, all that i am saying here is facts while you say stupid things that don't make sense, you don't even know what UNIX, meaning that you know anything about computing history, so stfu already
What? Me, insecure? Um, I don't think so. Things that I am saying don't make sense to you because you are obviously not intelligent enough to understand and accept that I like both systems. You would not believe how secure my Windows NT Systems is - and you will NEVER find such granular security on a Mac. Never.
Also, tube, Mac OS X is not Unix Compliant - it has been classed AS a type of Unix for a long time now. So you couldn't even get that right, Rofl.
haha, you are such an idiot, things that you say won't make sense to anyone cause all you write is either wrong or THEY DON'T MAKE SENSE, YOU DON'T KNOW SHIT ABOUT ANY OS, YOU DON'T EVEN KNOW WHAT UNIX IS, why the hell don't you go to Apple's website to see that Leopard is a FULLY COMPLIANT UNIX system AND MAC HAS ALWAYS BEEN KNOWN FOR SECURITY AND NOW HAS MORE SECURITY BECAUSE IT IS UNIX based, Windows is and will always want to be a Mac, which is why they always copy
Wtf. You make all these assumptions about me without knowing a single thing. I don't know shit about any OS?
What's an ACL? Ever heard of NSA? Do you even know what Granular Security is? Or Proactive Security? Ha, I bet you don't.
Also, if things that I say don't make sense, then where are the masses that are disagreeing with me? The only idiot in here is you, my friend. So, as a solution, GTFO, go kill yourself, and stop posting.
i do know what NSA, idiot, that's the National Security Agency's cryptologic organization and it's who's responsible for protecting communications, also, the NSA doesn't have anything to do with what we are talking about, and it's not Granular security, it's Granular Computing, you are the one that should suicide cause you continue to get off the topic to start talking shit, btw, I know that ATC is Audit Command Language, so it looks like i know more of computing that you ever will

a little history lesson: OSX (Cheetah) was released in March 2001. Longhorn project (vista) began in May 2001 for release in '03. this didn't happen. Perhaps because they didn't work hard enough, more likely because Puma, Jaguar and Panther were released in the interim, and INNOVATED, right? microsoft's guys liked the look of that and decided to copy it all, taking 4 MORE YEARS saying, yeah we came up with those ideas like 10 years ago. um no you didn't
Meisinscotland is a people that i call "IHTUS", I have the ultimate secret. They're saying bullshits all the time and showing stupid and improbable proof.

WTF are you talking about? Neither does Windows allow any modification to the kernel. There isn't even a ROOT account on Windows, neither. And, should a mischevious program try to pass into Kernel space (like a bad driver) the Blue Screen of Death occurs, which is designed to protect the kernel and system from damage. SO next time, substantiate your facts or SFTU.
Did you not know that OS X is fully UNIX compliant?
Do youy want me to put some links of people hacking Windows and obtaining access to the kernel, are you an idiot? Everybody knows that there is a ROOT account on Windows, do you know what system 32 is? There are all the files in the system and if a hacker get's access to that, he'll be able to modify or delete all the computer facts, so you are the one that should be checking facts
Windows doesn't have a root account. It has Administrator, System, and some other accounts especially if IIS is installed and running. Mac OS 10 has root, and it has no password. Penetration testing shows that while initially some systems based on UNIX may be harder to get into, when security measures from both are put into place, Windows is the more secure. It also exercises principle of least privelages far better than UNIX does. UNIX takes a slightly different approach.
What a noob, why don't you first look up what you're saying, it's nonsense, everybody knows that Windows has a Root Account, Mac is the one that doesn't, would you please look up the info before saying some more stupid shit, Micronoob
Are you honestly saying that a Mac does not have Root? Man, you are so wrong. You might as well change your name to "IknowjackshitaboutMacOSX" - idiot. I refuse to participate any further in this argument of which you clearly do not have the knowledge.

Nice video, did you get the idea to use Chariots of Fire from the Macintosh 128k introduction? I wish I would have been old enough to see Apple evolve like that. I am 17 now but was too young to see all the different OSes as they went by. Oh well I have a 2 year old PowerBook G4 17-inch and am saving up for a 17-inch MBP, I'm halfway there, donations accepted...jk
ahhh nostalgia... i haven't used System 6 since i was a youngen (about 6 yrs old), but i still remember it. I do remember Mca OS 9.2, as it was the one i was using when i got interested in computers (about 13 years old). I'm now 17, and i've got myself a MacBook.
Apple have always been, are, and always will be the innovators with computing technology.
Great video! Nice seeing all those old version again. It just takes me back in time. I used many Mac's and different OS's. Back at school I used Mac-OS 6 systems (512Ke and SE30) and professionally I used systems ranging from the Quadra 800 to the G5. At home I used the G4/450 and now the iMac 24". I think I've used all the different systems shown here.
P.s. I think that you skipped OS 7.1 in this collection :)
Yeah, that's a 7.5 or 7.6 system. It looks slightly different from 7.1. If I remember correctly 7.1 didn't have a menu bar clock. Also I think the windows didn't have the colored accents, they where still B/W. :)
System 7 did have coloured accents. I know this because I ran it for a while. The extras in System 7.5.3 were stickies, the Control Strip (which later evolved to be the dock) and more power saving options, etc etc.
He skipped a lot of systems actually. But it was nicely done. Some of the screenshots look a little reminiscent of various "GUI sites" on the web, mind you ...
Perhaps you should check out the prices on Mac Mini, as you definitely have a keyboard an (hopefully not antiquated) monitor. 1 GB of RAM is a must, though...
Or you could always save up and wait until yet a new line of Intel-Macs comes out with Leopard pre-installed.
I still have a Mac II in the garage. In those days - Mac's came as a small grey box about the size of your head. Included the entire computer, and the monitor (about 11 inches) keyboard and mouse were the only other requirements.
*sniff* *sniff* beautiful! But seriously, all you can really use windows for is typing. unless you have a very nice one. then u can play games. but it is very difficuklt to edit, post, compile, or otherwise view photos, vids, or music. pardon my spelling im in a hurry.
Is it weird that I watched the trash can the whole time waiting for the lines to switch direction?

ahhh nostalgia... i haven't used System 6 since i was a youngen (about 6 yrs old), but i still remember it.

MacXpert74 4 years ago
no, systen 7 is in there (see 1:36) but i dont know if thats 7.1
Druaga1 4 years ago
Yeah, that's a 7.5 or 7.6 system. It looks slightly different from 7.1. If I remember correctly 7.1 didn't have a menu bar clock. Also I think the windows didn't have the colored accents, they where still B/W. :)
MacXpert74 4 years ago
System 7 did have coloured accents. I know this because I ran it for a while. The extras in System 7.5.3 were stickies, the Control Strip (which later evolved to be the dock) and more power saving options, etc etc.
meisinscotland 4 years ago
He skipped a lot of systems actually. But it was nicely done. Some of the screenshots look a little reminiscent of various "GUI sites" on the web, mind you ...

Perhaps you should check out the prices on Mac Mini, as you definitely have a keyboard an (hopefully not antiquated) monitor. 1 GB of RAM is a must, though...
Or you could always save up and wait until yet a new line of Intel-Macs comes out with Leopard pre-installed.
koentjeuh85 4 years ago
I'm getting a Mac Pro when Leopard comes out.

I still have a Mac II in the garage. In those days - Mac's came as a small grey box about the size of your head. Included the entire computer, and the monitor (about 11 inches) keyboard and mouse were the only other requirements.

Actually, both Apple and Microsoft copied Xerox's prototype design for the mouse and windowing operating system.
ericgrueninger 4 years ago
Actually, Eric, Apple Paid Xerox to use their innovational design. MicroSoft just copied Macintosh.

I still have a 7.5 OS disk somwhere .. those where the days!

Wow, I just recently switched to the Mac and seeing those old versions illustrate how obvious Microsoft has copied the Mac over the years!
Thanks for the memories, let us hope that more Windows users like myself will join the Mac side of the force leaving the Mighty "M" behind.

Very good timeline video, but it would be nice with a little box somewhere telling you what os is currently showing.
