  • lol this is still pretty funny can't believe i never seen this before today

  • 3:50 No matter how many times I see it it never gets old.

  • what's the music at the 3 minute mark?...

  • @anchorman87 it's 'troika' - the fourth movement from sergei prokofiev's lieutenant kije suite. the main riff is used as the instrumental section in the song 'i believe in father christmas' by greg lake, which is how a lot of people will know it. it's also used in association with a lot of christmassy things generally. this plays in my head whenever i wake up, open my curtains and find out it's been snowing.

  • @wolflower thanks so much! :-)

  • haha steve's face at 7.43

  • @specialfx34 I know, I often hate it when English people use that word (even some of my best friends say it and they're not twats at all) it just doesn't sound right and reminds you of how Americanized we've become.

  • @lolaposen - hey karl is a brilliant - its going to be a blockbuster

  • This is the third time I watch this. Comedy in Germany is the worst!!! I'm starving here.

Love Rickys, Merchants & Pilkingtons work...want more!

  • The Feeding Next Door's Great Dane Hard-boiled Eggs is my very favourite bit.

  • When The Whistle Blows better than most other comedies out there!

  • @iloveneytiri You say that but would you really want to watch 30 minutes of it?

  • is it okay to watch this before the second season?

  • @skitch88 no

  • @skitch88 No u need to watch second season first

  • Who gives a shite if Americans don't know who people are. Did they do a different version for Australia too?

  • i think the pop culture references would have perhaps been more international, for the US version because it must have confused someone why there'd be a toy doll of Kramer selling in the UK (seinfeld did show in the UK but only because everything else does)

  • is there a difference between the american and the british extras christmas special.

  • @utdfordouble yeah, like the kramer doll being used instead of jade, etc etc

  • You knew the Kramer doll was going to have the racist comment in it. You knew it was coming, but it was still funny.

  • Gervais and Merchant are geniuses.

  • I love how Greg is supposed to be this glamorous star, when he's actually quite dorky looking.

  • Smerch is legendary in this show.

  • LMFAO "well thanks mate but you'd be surprised".

  • Well for such a small country, we used to run half the fucking World :)

  • I would just like to state on record that I don't care too much for Lithuania.

  • typical american thinking that just cause because a country (or anything in general) is small it is insignificant! just goes to show that while america is a massive country it is well and truly full of morons.

    shiny! shiny! bling bling. idiot

  • little fat ugly thing pathetic

  • Annoying really, they go to all the trouble shooting the scene for the US, but the US never do differant versions for the UK, in Family Guy i don't understand the TV jokes, because we have differant TV, but we do it for them. What have they done for us.

  • Yes, you're right, we're are an insignificant nation. And with the exception of your banking and corporate masters as well as your pathetic corrupt Zionist government, you too are just an insignificant blimp in your quasi Mexican multicultural ghetto soon to be third world country. Merry Christmas and keep living the Fantasy bud! Oh Yeah, God bless America!

  • @csno1 good greif. thats a bit harsh and ever so slightly xenophobic mate!

  • @csno1 what a joke still bitter from that ass whoopin

  • I congratulate and respect America's founding fathers! However, Contemporary America is a joke, and you know it.

  • Dude you owned him. Gimme major details of your life, you must either read a LOT or be educated to degree level in some humanity lol.

  • prick

  • The English version's better, that Kramer doll's catchphrases are unrealistically too long.

  • i like the announcer's accent in the beginning

    day = dyeh

  • This Christmas special is as good as any film i've seen. Absolute genius

  • In the UK version, when they show the audience wearing catchphrases, it has a different one at the end about ASDA.

  • When the Whistle Blows looks like the worst sitcom ever.

  • u avin a laugh

  • yea they must of changed the jade goody bit because of her death.pitty , funny that was .

  • no, they changed it because the us audience wouldn't know who jade goody was. there's a video somewhere on youtube with ricky explaining the subtle differences for the uk and us release of the special.

  • here it is.

    /watch?v=RDFMGqFNy9U

  • this was made 2 years ago, so its obv not about jade goody dying

  • I think it was pointless to make a US version. Who cares if I didn't know who Jade Goody is/was (I have the internet.. I can fuckin look it up!).

This from an American for fuck sake.

  • @Kangarieux It's not like they had to film the entire thing again, is it? They only had to change a couple of words here and there and I'm sure most Americans would appreciate them doing it.

  • extras was years before jade goody died. they shot an alternate scene for the US version, because Jade is unknown in america.

  • i may aswell send barry...hahaha

  • Why has the uploader referred to this as the US version?

  • There are subtle differences between what aired on the Beeb and what aired on HBO,

  • Because it is -

A few differences I can think of:

The scene where the Ray doll is compared to another doll (Jade Goody vs. Michael Richards)

Extended scene with George Michael in the UK version.

That's all that comes to mind really, it's just subtle pop culture references adjusted for target audiences.

  • I love how Darren is oblivious to how insulting that is.

  • this show, is fucking brilliant. as much as it makes me laugh, in a way it gets to me with its sadness. love it.

  • ... next doors great dane...

  • wow ashley jensen is just crazy beautiful.

  • the office and extras is too good

  • lol sorry for what? Proving you have no taste in good television?

  • True, you are a sorry piece of sh*t

  • ya know how i see the office and the extras series - i personally find it on par with only fools and horses - realistic, hilarious and mixed in with real emotions and serious acting

genious...simply genious on so many levels.

  • @dannyday58218195 - greatest english sitcoms =

1 - only fools and horses

    2 - the office

    3 - extras

  • @superstelling What about the young ones? That was brilliant.

  • love gervais/merchant , so brilliant no-one else does it like them !! X :)

  • What can i say.

Ricky is the best in UK comedy the last decade. He is awsome. Loved The Office and Extras was also great. Brilliant humour, and what else can I say. Shame it was so short.

  • Agree totally...the work of Gervais/Merchant is up there with the all time greats such as with Fawlty Towers, Dad Army, Blackadder, Alan Partridge etc

  • dont forgot lee evans. Number 1 comedian imo

  • this christmas special is truly great.

  • oh gosh. 8.22

  • 'He thought it was rilliant'

    'oh i can hear'

    haaaaaaaaaaaa

  • Glad to see they've kept the swearing in though

  • 8:22 almost made me fall off my chair with laughter poor barry lol

  • Am I alone in wanting to see a full episode of 'when the whistle blows'?!

  • I hope so

  • yes...

  • Philistines.

  • Indeed you are. I'd love a whole series.

  • i noticed all them things weird that isnt it

  • I think I lucked out by buying the import version on DVD, because I had no idea of the differences. I like the Kramer joke better though. It's funny how you can clearly see both Kramer and Jade Goody dolls on the shelf in either version.

  • Love the music in the Christmas special.

  • Ah, I see! Thanks for clearing that up.

  • What's the difference between the UK and US versions?

  • Steve Merchant is a legend

  • this would have been amazing on the big screen.

  • I love how they fade out the sitcom so that you can just barely make out that final "joke"

  • I love the expression on Steve's face when he says: "What, little fat ugly thing? Pathetic."

    It's up there with:

"What are you doing in a factory in Wigan? It's mental."

  • In the original TV showing, the other doll on sale in this scene is Jade Goody. Why is it Kramer here?

  • I wonder if "When the Whistle Blows" is Gervais' way of poking fun at the American version of The Office. It has about the same level of intelligence.

  • well since this was made before the american version of the office and ricky and steve are producers for th american version i kind of doubt it.

  • my GOD! "When the Whistle Blows" looks EVEN WORSE now than it did when they showed it during the actual series. I love the "I don't get it" guy, though.

  • next year i'm ordering ten thousand sanjaya dolls...lol!

  • what's Sanjaya?

  • he was on american idol a few years back, he was really terrible. for a good laugh, search for some sanjaya malakar videos.

  • pause at 1.47 ricky's blatantly trying to stop himself from laughing lol

  • As much as I love Ricky Gervaise this has got to be the most depressing thing I have ever watched. I work as a professional actor and everything you see in this is so true to life. Especially that nasty Greg character the industry is full of those types.

  • I fucking love Merchant.

    Hes so oddly wonderful.

  • "to the public there is no difference between me and that doll"

what? little fat ugly thing? pathetic?

best line in any gervais show.

  • less of the american hate pls O_O

  • Why is it that everything British has to be 'adapted' for Americans, whereas we in Britain watch American comedies and simply ignore the references we don't understand?

  • because we love you guys!

  • ... because we're not dull and we tend to get everything.

  • Please! not everyone in the United States is dull. and its embarrassing and offensive to the people that aren't to constantly have to hear from the rest of the world how ugly fat and stupid we are.

  • As a european I'd love to live in the states. The only thing I couldn't handle is the healthcare insurance...it is scary.

  • Haha...it's like you suspect some massive American conspiracy! Honestly, I think it's more about the ubiquitous nature of American cultural references/accent due to the massive amounts of media we export. Also, Extras was a co-production of the BBC and HBO--it's not just a British product! Actually though I seem to recall Gervais saying that he *chose* to make two versions just to make sure everyone enjoyed the show as much as possible--on both sides of the pond! Cheers!

  • extras is so well made. its genius

  • i love merchant...

  • ugh the stupid guy at the end dirtying all the food with his grubby fingers...

  • Class.

  • wtf, when I first saw it it was Jade goody, not that bloke in the jacket.

  • This is the us version , Michael Richards instead of Jade Goody .

  • Do you or does any one else know what the xmas song is called at the start of this video ?

  • it's gloria in excelsis deo

  • lol at 6:59 "as long as it doesn't distract them from their work, they'll probably get a beating".

  • The Music Is Eery

  • san-fucking-jaya!!!! that poof from yank idol??? whats that doing in extras!!!

  • lol, they changed some stuff around for American TV

  • i think its actually could you etc

  • this one is all american references

  • or "actually"

  • absolute genius iz mr. merchant

  • whats the christmas song in the Department store

  • I, I , I , I, I love you very much...

I think that is the song

  • Kramer ROLF! Even you Brits should have heard about Seinfeld and Michael Richards racist rant

  • I watched that , that was awful . I used to like Kramer , couldn't even watch anything with Michael Richards in it now .

  • you guys won't believe me by i swear to go god my sister is the one that shot that video of him. she was at the laugh factory that night and had her camera even though she wasn't supposed to and as soon as he started flipping out she started filming. swear to god.

  • It was a disgusting rant from him . Some people laughed at first , thinking it was a joke . Did your sister go there to see him specifically ? I'll bet it's put her off him too !

  • no she didnt go to see him, that night had like five comedians and he was one of them. she said he wasn't that good anyway.

  • As u can see nobody gives a shit

  • Did she get paid for it.?

  • ya tmz paid her for the video. i'd rather not disclose how much on the internet thow

  • why does it say Hbo presents and what's a krammer doll??? in the origional it was a jade goodie doll.

  • this is the USA version...they made subtle differences so the americans could understand the references xx

  • ... in this clip the manager gives maggie a kramer doll, but in the other one on youtube he gives her a jade goody doll... O.o

    cool! :D

  • I'm just curious but why does Ashley come ahead of Stephen in the opening billing?

  • I guess its because Ashley's profile is bigger than Stephen's, especially after her role in 'Ugly Betty'.

  • lol maybe it's alphabetical order .

  • i am so happy and depressed at Ricky and Steven only making 2 series of Extras and Office, but they really are ending on a high, unlike the American Office ending on recycled jokes.

  • so how many series of US Office are there?

  • theres 4

the 5th seasons airing in september

  • i dont really know, but i know taht theyre gonna commision, purely on a viewer basis but 45 shows i read

  • Ya, thanks a lot!

  • Yay! I haven't seen this! Thanks heaps for uploading!
