@IeveLivy Well it sounds like you didn't get the 128meg expansion. If you didn't your sample time is really short. I wouldn't try to load a whole song in there with out the expansion. Is thisa beat you are trying to sample or is this something you have already put together in the machine?

@sherryou they are different types of equipment. The akai MPD series only controls MIDI, aka information in music software. So you could make something similar to this if you made the same samples in your software, then picked out similar drum samples to assign to the MPD. Would it sound exactly the same, most likely not.

MPC's already have massive banks of sounds, drum samples, and synths to choose from, plus built in sampling capability.

@sherryou mpc's are far better than the mpd range, the mpd range is basically a low end make of the mpc. the mpd pads sensitivity is quite shocking but that can be fixed and upgraded. if you want bang for your buck id say grab a mpd18 and upgrade the sensitivty unless you want the 32 where you pay extra for a bunch of knobs and faders... but hey if you got the cash for the mpc500 or higher models then by all means get one!!!

@goodwill815 hi there, you can sample in and trim/chop the sample. Yes, you do this by ear, no wave display due to the small display of the portable model, but it is actually easy and I prefer to edit by ear personally. Also of course you can chop on the PC and simply drag the files over. There is a time stretch built into the sample processing on the 500, it works but it is basic, again if the built-in function doesn't work for you, pre-process on a PC. Please read the manual.

@LamptonWorm ,man i dont think i could do it by ear i mean i could but would much rather have a display and be able to use the zero crossing to make my tracks extra clean,no clicks or off by a hair chops.Icame off a lil strong on the hate towards this machine.dont get me wrong i would prefer a mpc 2000 or really a 60 over any other machine or controller but thats because you can do everthing on them,there very well made and set up .so i guess i just feel the 500 isnt worth the price.

@561sage nah you dont need anything other than an mpc and speakers technically...to chop samples youre either going to need a turntable or a program on your pc tho. you can use audacity, its free download.
