Wow! Shaolin? Wudang? I think this is really cool. Because Chan style TaiJi pao Quan(炮拳？）looks kind like mix with shaolin style, doesn't looks like the TaiJi(Tai Chi) Quan original Wudang Style. Well actually, if you think about it, you have just insulted many Shaolin monks. By saying the monks that train outside of the temple sucks mean you are refering to monks like Shi Xing Hao, Shi Xing Peng (Zhang LiPeng), Shi Xing Hong(De Ching), Shi Xing Ying, Shi Yan Feng, Shi Xing Yu (coolie from Kungfu Hustle) and many other great names. i never said Shi Yan Feng ever trained in the temple. He trained in the Shaolin Wushu Guan, where all the REAL training were going on...

u obviously know that the Wushu Guan was the main place to train martial arts. the temple monks mostly meditated. mostly all the best monks trained at the Shaolin Wushu Guan

REAL training?...Real disciples train in the temple regularly, and if you knew what you were talking about, you would surely know that. Wushu guan is a basic training area where all kinds of students train, with competition training as the sole purpose. That's the money side. Then there's the traditionalist side, discipleship. You need to be a disciple of a Shaolin master to even train or go into the temple (basically wherever the master wanted to teach you, not Wushu Guan).

well, i visited xing hao's place this past week. they horse around too much. only like 2 people had any talent. yan feng's was a total mess, it's all about these little rotten brats with barnyard manners. this school seems to be on it's way to shutting down, only weekend classes remain. xing ying's place was also just oriented to kids, which is great for the kids, but not great for an adult. the adults don't get the right attention at any of the schools i saw in H-town, except for de shan's.

I think there are 3-4 (I'm not sure) Shaolin schools in Houston. You should check ALL of them out. I recommend training with Shi Xing Hao or Shi Xing Ying since they are both very good at Shaolin and can teach very well. Something about Shi De Shan just didn't suit me so well.

Well I tried every school in Houston...that's why I'm at Sifu De Shan's. It's great for adult practice (18-50) if you're not that into Wushu/performance. And we do iron body, qi gong, and qinna which is so great. Sifu taught these subjects to the monks at Shaolin Temple for many years and the Chinese police, as well. I encourage you to come and check it out here first. I love it there! This is a Taiji exhibition in the video. The Taiji is really good here and it's really very friendly atmosphere

I went to Yan Fung (sp?) and Shing Ying (sp?) and watched a little and frankly wasn't that impressed with the personalities and styles of the teachers. Not enough emphasis on adult practice and I do wanna get more self defense stuff in. I will probably visit Xing Hao's place and then De Shan this next 2 weeks. i may visit them all one more time after that if I am not immediately convinced by xing hoa or de shan's. I will totally agree on this. I saw a lot of teachers in TX and elsewhere do Taiji and they all have their own way and their own interpretations, but De Shan is wicked cool with his Chen style Taiji. He really brings out the meditational and self-defense and qi gong aspects of Chen style in his performance of it, and in class. A lot of teachers lose the combat art within Taiji for some reason. It really is a combat-oriented internal art, not just some pretty exercise regimen.
