I was there during the May 3rd, 1999 tornado to dipshit. I saw the wall cloud pass directly over my house. You can still see where the tornado went through if you took a helicopter flight over the area.
I remember that day well. I was in Wichita when that system went through TX, OK and KS. We were hit by an F4 that took 5 lives. :( God bless the victims of those storms.
When the May, 3rd tornado dropped down outside of chickasha was first predicted to be a weak tornado that would most likely dissipate early. But it became the most intense storm ever recorded!
I saw an F4 (F5 for much of the state) that hit a mile down the road during the 2011 tornado outbreak (and yes, those were really bad), but I can't even imagine this! How many people were injured/killed during this? And would you guys please stop arguing over which tornado is bigger than the other? All tornadoes are serious, no matter their size. If it kills people and destroys places, it's serious.
@Ulansananelan Actually, the May 3rd tornado is still the strongest tornadoes recorded to date. If this kind of tornado would have hit Joplin, the results would have been beyond belief.
@caliaa The winds in the Moore Oklahoma tornado were only 50 mph stronger than the Joplin tornado. A destroyed house is a destroyed house, and 250 mph winds (Joplin) are much strong enough to destroy a well built structure.
@caliaa i have heard that the GUIN, ALABAMA tornado of 1974 super outbreak might have been stonger than Xenia, Ohio and might have been as strong as the F5 of May 3, 1999.
@Ulansananelan Again, this tornado did not cause the death that may have been seen in other cities, but Oklahoma is the premier location for predicting and providing notice and shelter for these things, which helps. The national weather service is housed here. You cannot, nor should not measure the tornado by the resultant death and destruction. I assure you, this tornado is easily among, if not THE, singular horrific tornadic event of our times.
@Ulansananelan In the death toll, you are correct, however, if you compare everything else, that is incorrect. They almost changed the max EF rating to 6 because of this tornado. The winds clocked up to 318mph and the fact that it was a single vortex that spanned over 1 mile wide at times, puts this tornado at a higher destruction rating. I agree with caliaa, had this tornado hit Joplin, the toll would have been exponentially worse. Luck had us better prepared that day.
@Ulansananelan ummm...consider a windspeed of approx. 318 mph...the highest wind speed ever recorded on earth. but think about the fact that this monster wasnt the only tornado that day. oklahoma had a total of 71 tornadoes that day, including 3 f4s and 6 f3s confirmed. this single tornado was on the ground for like 50miles. i think that if joplin had the storm chasers and meterologists that okc has, it is POSSIBLE the death toll wouldnt have been as high.
The intensity or strength of a particular tornado can't and shouldn't be measured in lives lost. A small tornado in an urban area can cause a lot of death. A large tornado in a rural area, may have nearly no impact. The 1999 Moore tornado was the most violent thing I've ever seen. Recent tornadoes in Tuscaloosa and Joplin appear similar, but each of these events have their own unique stories and nearly character. For those who saw this, it will forever be "ours." It was amazing and awful.
i was in MWC this day... and yes, it was an EF5 when it hit Moore.. when it arrived in MWC and lifted it was an F3. (It lifted right before it hit the YMCA in my neighborhood)
me and my family almost got hit by this tornado but my dad got everybody in the truck and we took off away the tornado we almost went to moore but we changed the way and headed back home.....damn
Living in Tulsa at the time, going to Spartan Aeronautics! I was working at Goldie's Patio Grill ( us working and customers was watching KJRH Ch.2 I remember) watching at the time it struck OKC/Moore area and it was heading up the Turnpike toward southwest Tulsa.
i was 4 when this happend, my mom told me we were living in apartments at the time, she said that we were in the bathtub and all we can hear is the doors opening in closing and the windows shaking and the whole apartment shaking, crazy loud thunder, it was only me, my mom and my lil brother,
I think we would all be wise to do so. Even up in pa an ef2 touched down not 5 miles from my home. If that storm had turned the right way I wouldn't have a home. I know its nothing compared to what you have been through but it is a wake up call, this season is going to be violent.
@ChAoS9779 Well the tri-state killed soo many people because look what year it was when that hit, no sirens nothing. And traveled 3 states, the Tuscaloosa one dissipated soon after.
@anonuhmys They actually traveled about the same distance. And sirens did exist back then. However, the number of people that heeded the warning was much less than today
@thesportsdude90 Well lets see, the they called it a "tri state" for a reason but the tuscaloosa tornado didnt travel near as far. Plus I was not even referring to the tri state anyways. Also the tri state tornado traveled 219 miles in 1925 so honestly what do you think the "sirens" were like back then? plus the great "shelter" they had.
Was in Midwest city at the time. We took shelter in the community center basement, which had a freaking gas leak. You could feel the wind from the tornado through a vent. It was eerie.
@ZiggyPhoenixDWF Last year i went through an F5 tornado out here in Ohio, iv been studying them too ever since my house got hit... nature is a scary thing bro
@xXaggiesXx23 I'm tellin' ya Oklahoma goes through the most absolute MONSTER TORNADOS. By the way how fast was the wind of that tornado in ohio, becuase one of the 72 tornados that day had winds upto 300 mph.

@Sooner9601 i got reletives their and i know u get monster tornadoes but the F5 tornado in ohio on June 5th 2010 reached high speed of 202 m.p.h not as fast as that but still scary
@xXaggiesXx23 The last official EF5 tornado to strike the U.S. (before the April 27, 2011 outbreak) was on May 25, 2008 in Parkersburg, Iowa. Prior to that the last official F5 (occuring before the change from the 'fujita scale' to the 'enhanced fujita scale') tornado occured on May 3, 1999 in Moore, Oklahoma. The last potential (official OR unofficial) EF5/F5 tornadoes that occured in OHIO were the Saylor Park and Xenia tornadoes on April 3, 1974, both of which were confirmed F5 tornadoes.
@xXaggiesXx23 Still man, whether it was an EF5 or an EF1, I would hate having to face something like that. 7 people killed and several others injured. Hope no one you know was hurt.
and plus they had no celar she and i saw it about 10 miles away. wasnt that bad bell didnt ring but we started heading home I WAS SO SCARED I JUST WANTED TO DIE! but when we got home i was still freaking out. by the time i went to sleep it was all dumbed down. i held my hands together and said thank you. next morning guess what? IT WENT AWAY! the sky was kinda clear. im like what the? but i was greatfull anyway. this actually was last year. i hope i see everyone their but DONT see a bad storm!

ME AND JESSIE FREAKED! though jessie was used to this (a tornado hit her porch)
People in Wisconsin remember Barnaveld in 1984, but the Moore Tornado was the worst ever seen. Hopefully that kind of Tornado won't come again for a very long time.
@hawkfan2300 Indeed! Only problem is nobody knows that because the overpass tornado video has been played so many times that they think it's instant shelter.......And i was once guilty of thinking that but i was 10 and have never experienced a tornado in my life.
why the fucking thumbs up comment is a fucking atheist yes i believe that it is cause by climates but fuck i believe in God WHY ALL FUCKING Americans hate God!!
I feel bad for who ever died in this storm. This is why we have to chase storms to gather data so we know when they will strike. Next year during spring and summer i am going to film tornadoes
My dad was in the airforce near MWC, Ok I was born here, we left oklahoma right after this tornado to go to Idiana......... (my b-day was may 5) than we went all over Europe, I remeber them telling me about the torando but never grasped it untill we got back to living here..... That tornado basicly shaped my life.... I will never forget my parents telling me that i was shoved into a closet as it missed my hose by a block.... I will never forget the lives lost on this day....
I was there during this tornado...lived in norman. i remember the meteorologist saying...if you are not underground, you are gonna die. they had been saying we had a high chance for tornadic weather that day.
I was living in moore at the time that this happend. It was a beautiful warm day, not a cloud in the sky...the only thing I would say was weird was that the were absolutely NO WIND...AT ALL! There weren't any birds chirping or anything you would consider normal on a warm spring day. All you could see from my house was a big black sky, then we noticed shingles, among other debris flying passed our house. It was over in about 5 minutes but the devastation was Absolutely UNBELIEVABLE!
If i had to broadcast a tornado warning and knew the tornado was like this, all i could say is "...all citizens of (insert warning area) ....THIS IS ARMEGEDDON!!!"
Chasing these things are dangerous in the summer of 2008 when i turned 18 i paid to ride along with chasers in texas and what i seen changed my life and made me respect chasers and the fury of nature
@foilseal shut the fuck up you moths fucka and get tha fuck off of YouTube and go to scool god ur stupid this is a real tornado that killed lots of ppl u fucka
@ISLAVERDE29 making up the date doesnt mean anything. i've interviewed several people who lived in the area at the time and they stated that 5/3/99 was a warm cloudless day. additioonally, the weather bureau confimed that there were no storms in oklahoma at all on that date.
@foilseal You couldn't be more of a fool. Again - I was there. It's no movie. And nobody has any interest in perpetuating some great fraud on the world. Do your research, dude. Then get a clue and get a life.
@TheDHXTRA already done. i told you i did the interviews, researched the climate that day and took wind samples back to the lab. and all the data came back as 100% NO tornado. what's funny is how you still continue to live this lie that you survived some "GREAT HUMAN TRAGEDY" to quote you....In fact the only great human tragedy that i see is your EXISTENCE.
@foilseal I assure you, and all others, that you are a complete and total idiot. You did no interviews. Did no research. And you took "wind samples?" Wind samples from years after an event will not tell you anything about a weather event years before. And what is a "wind sample?" Catch some 300 mph wind in a jar, did you? Again, fool. I was there, and the rubble that remained from the many houses in my neighborhood speak far more than YOU can perpetuating your stupid, ignorant myth.
@TheDHXTRA don't worry hick...science will eventually reach oklahoma. until then, continue gorging yourself on fast food and donuts and enjoy your delusions about flying saucers, unicorns, and tornadoes.
@TheDHXTRA HERE IS SOMEONE WHO DID DO RESEARCH EVERYONE!!!! THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE PROVES "FOILSEAL" IS A "FRAUD."
Look at NOAA/National Weather Service report online about Great Plains Tornado Outbreak May3-4, 1999. It details EVERY ONE of the many tornadoes, including the big one. Foilseal's "wind samples" in a jar aren't factual. Thanks for playing, bitch.
@foilseal lol i don't know anything?! wow the more comments you make the more you make yourself look dumb i said look it up dumbass twister is 1996 LOOK IT UP and look up tornado of may 3rd 1999 on wikipedia dumbass everything you see in this video is real!!
@celebrityfan1990 yes, it's real. movie sets are real. they really do exist. a real tornado looks nothing like this. i've been inside of 12 tornados just in the last week.
@foilseal dude shut up just shut up ok because you won't believe anything although this was on the news and it was recorded the strongest tornado ever your fucked mind and brain won't believe a shit so just shut the fuck up
@foilseal hey answer my question dumbass once you don't answer it that makes you look more stupid and idiotic so tell me so solve the problem on the previous comment so i can see how dumb or smart you are if you get it correct you earn my respect if you don't YOU FAIL AT SCHOOL AND LIFE SON!
@celebrityfan1990 i can't imagine anyone would seek your respect unless you have a more retarded younger relative. and son, when the place you come to get respect and admiration is the internet, you may want to take a long hard look at what you've become.
@foilseal for your information asshole people respect OUTSIDE of the information asshole I have even gain respect from my country prime minister and all over the country so i suggest you shut the fuck up if you don't have anything sensible to say
@dawnfox18 what's fake? the f5 that ran thru oklahoma and killed ppl? ur a complete idiot if that's what ur talking about and i'll have to agree with foilseal...u do make urself look dumb with each word u type. I lived thru this "fake" tornado. And Dana Plato (from Different Strokes) was up here helping her fiances family the next few days in Moore bc/they went thru the tornado too...look it up dumb shit...that's where she passed away! And how did u "proven" that was fake????
@foilseal i'll have to correct my previous response bc/foilseal is sooooo fucking stupid he want everyone to know that i was responding to the wrong person and that everyone needs to make sure they know that he is the idiot that thinks this tornado is fake and not dawnfox18...damn...lol.. There, do feel better now that ppl know that YOU are the idiot that thinks the tornado is fake and that YOU have PROVEN it's fake? :-)
Of course tornadoes are just a part of nature. But when you get caught up in one of these things, it becomes more than that. I've been in one before. Its a terrible experience. It's hard not to think of it as a monster with a mind of its own, for someone who has gone through one.
@ilovetogofast88 everything you type refers to gay sex. that tells us a lot about you. i'm not into grade school insults or gay sex, so you might want to troll somewhere else kid.
Considering that's all what you do, throw meaningless worthless rants like a whiny little cock, while I speak the truth about you, if I were you I'd shut up and stop making a complete asswipe of yourself
@ilovetogofast88 quite a loud bark you got there little man. however, i'm a little disappointed in your latest response. "shut up" and "asswipe" are a little weak. c'mon you can do better, little man!
Listen motherfucker, clearly YOU don't have a life, you are an ignorant cocksucking 39-year-old who acts like toddler and you don't know when to shut your fucking mouth, all you do, is make childish rants and you just further prove what a worthless little bitch you are, YOU start these fucked up pathetic rants so just fucking SHUT UP!

@WayneAndSouljaSucks Doesn't matter if we learned, it probably would have the same outcome.
Salien1999 10 months ago
@hawkfan2300 Indeed! Only problem is nobody knows that because the overpass tornado video has been played so many times that they think it's instant shelter.......And i was once guilty of thinking that but i was 10 and have never experienced a tornado in my life.
ISLAVERDE29 11 months ago
@ISLAVERDE29 cant blame ya i experienced my first tornado when i was seven

This thing had an identical radar signature to the Greensburg, Kansas tornado. Major first-ever event in meteorological history.

You could easily be swept off this earth in the matters of minutes.

I feel bad for who ever died in this storm. This is why we have to chase storms to gather data so we know when they will strike. Next year during spring and summer i am going to film tornadoes

I live here in Oklahoma. This tornado was very real. It did kill people.
Soulstealer354 1 year ago

@foilseal Here's a history lesson for ya! This tornado, may 3 1999. The movie Twister was in 1996! So yeah NOT FAKE!
ISLAVERDE29 1 year ago
@ISLAVERDE29 making up the date doesnt mean anything. i've interviewed several people who lived in the area at the time and they stated that 5/3/99 was a warm cloudless day. additioonally, the weather bureau confimed that there were no storms in oklahoma at all on that date.
foilseal 1 year ago
@foilseal Dude don't even try, everyone knows about this day.

@foilseal This is the most laughable thing I have ever seen. I was there. Lived it. Saw it live. It happened, friend. And it was devastating.
TheDHXTRA 9 months ago
@TheDHXTRA yes it is laughable that you cannot distinguish between reality and a movie.
foilseal 9 months ago
@foilseal You couldn't be more of a fool. Again - I was there. It's no movie. And nobody has any interest in perpetuating some great fraud on the world. Do your research, dude. Then get a clue and get a life.
TheDHXTRA 9 months ago
@TheDHXTRA how was the catering?
foilseal 9 months ago
@TheDHXTRA already done. i told you i did the interviews, researched the climate that day and took wind samples back to the lab. and all the data came back as 100% NO tornado. what's funny is how you still continue to live this lie that you survived some "GREAT HUMAN TRAGEDY" to quote you....In fact the only great human tragedy that i see is your EXISTENCE.
foilseal 8 months ago
@foilseal I assure you, and all others, that you are a complete and total idiot. You did no interviews. Did no research. And you took "wind samples?" Wind samples from years after an event will not tell you anything about a weather event years before. And what is a "wind sample?" Catch some 300 mph wind in a jar, did you? Again, fool. I was there, and the rubble that remained from the many houses in my neighborhood speak far more than YOU can perpetuating your stupid, ignorant myth.
TheDHXTRA 8 months ago
@TheDHXTRA don't worry hick...science will eventually reach oklahoma. until then, continue gorging yourself on fast food and donuts and enjoy your delusions about flying saucers, unicorns, and tornadoes.
foilseal 8 months ago
@TheDHXTRA HERE IS SOMEONE WHO DID DO RESEARCH EVERYONE!!!! THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE PROVES "FOILSEAL" IS A "FRAUD."
Look at NOAA/National Weather Service report online about Great Plains Tornado Outbreak May3-4, 1999. It details EVERY ONE of the many tornadoes, including the big one. Foilseal's "wind samples" in a jar aren't factual. Thanks for playing, bitch.

tdhimmar 9 months ago
Of course tornadoes are just a part of nature. But when you get caught up in one of these things, it becomes more than that. I've been in one before. Its a terrible experience. It's hard not to think of it as a monster with a mind of its own, for someone who has gone through one.
