thank you man the review and setup guide is so great do you now that there is now iCanon Pixma MG5320 that have many other function you can watch it here watch?v=rBbsX7zVhEs
I am so sorry for buying this printer.. It worked 1-2 weeks and then the WIFI just won't connect to my router. First I thought the router was the problem but now I have bought three different routers and none of them worked for the printer. I have tried resetting the printer configurations to default. Still won't work. I have read all the manuals for the printer to find a solution to this printers problem. I feel I have wasted my money and lots time/days trying to solve the printers problem..
I thank you for the VERY helpful instructions. Sadly, my comp's a PC so as soon as you went on the Mac, I was lost, and hadn't a clue what to do for networking/wireless
Just bought this yesterday from Amazon.co.uk to replace my old Epson R340 which just stopped printing on cd/dvd's - just refuses, now ! Then my Canon Scanner started playing up and so I just went for this after all the good reviews.
Then i read it's terrible for cartridge life.
Thats a worrier. I don't want to have to keep buying cartridges every month (as one said he did) even compats, which are half the price (not a fifth of the price like the Epson's I used)
It just arrived, following guide here...and it just stopped after everything put on, having probs with wireless, then "6500 Printer error.....switch off and back on again if doesn't work refer to manual" just breen and amber flashing lights, no help no nothing.
It just won't do anything. No way to reset or anything - any clue ?
@davomrmac Well, I got my replacement - less than one day. Amazon are incredible ! Its set up fine. BUT No wireless. Im terrified of buggering everything up after the mess of the previous one.
Watching this excellent vid, while setting up you didn't actually say much while selecting this and that, and the fact you used a Mac didn't help with a PC installation ! ;-)
When i was trying to set up, it saw my access point - with my name, but then asked me to fill in a series of small boxes. WITH WHAT?
Hi Dave. Great video as always mate, thanks for the referral. Could you let me know how much the ink cartridges cost (approx) and how its holding up to date (presuming you've still got it).
@theunits3 I still have it and use it daily. I use third party inks, last time from Valueshop I got a complete Jettec set for about £14. It is holding up very well, good prints and ethernet which is awesome. Don't use the wireless really that much.
@davomrmac Nice one, just what i wanted to hear. I had the SX515 Epson up until a week ago. Black ink messed up so bought new ink. Didnt work either. Spoke to Epson and they said to send it in for repair which is in a diff city and a courier charge will apply. I was raging. Went to Tesco, where i purchased the printer, and they gave me a brand spanking new one. Gonna sell this now and it will put money forward for this new Canon. Cheers again mate, speedy responses as always. Appreciated
@sf200425997 Don't be mean. These video reviews are very useful for people that, like me, want to buy a new printer. This shows the inner of the machine and how it works, giving a much better decision argument. And some other people just get amused by how technology works.
So if i connected this printer via USB to a wireless router, am i able to still use the same printer wirelessly on my Mac and through the router via ethernet cable on a PC?
@10mangosteen: Have you then enable wireless connection via the printer menu then? I myself don't have experience with wifi, but use the wired ethernet connection. For this I also had to enable it somewhere in the printer menu.
Thanks for this. Were you able to set up the printer for Wi-fi? I have been trying to do this and am unable to do so with Snow Leopard. The printer can't be detected via the Canon IJ Network tool and I can't add the printer to my printer list. So now I can only print via USB. As I bought the printer for its Wi-fi capability, it's a pain that I can't get this to work..... Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for a great video.
Hmmm, I put the wifi settings into the printer, connected it wirelessly to my router. Then on my MacBook added it in via Bonjour, voila it was available to print to. Can't think what settings as it was a long time ago.
A warning for users who want to buy this printer because of its (fast) duplex printing. If automatic duplex printing is enabled then the mp640 will print the text much lighter. Then black text will look more like dark grey, which is much less convenient to read.
Well done - perhaps the best product review I've come across. Inspired idea giving a walkthrough of the producct 'from the box'. The problem you sorted out with the wireless function for instance, is something that I bet would otherwise have frustrated many of us less technically minded users.
Great video, I'd be interested to see what Mac colour management options there are in the printer driver itself so that you can create your own print profiles using various paper and ink choices.
thanks just found one of these in a garden the owner didnt want had carts in ink everthing plugged it in ready to go thanks for guide

Have had nothing but trouble trying to set up wireless.
Great printer and scanner, but they need to get this wireless connect-up a LOT clearer.

@PhilK1231 Hmmm, sounds faulty. Check with Canon.

@davomrmac Got in touch with them, they told me to do this and that (inc take out carts and paper) and leave for half hour. It worked.
BUT
I tried to set up the wireless, and it went straight back to the exact same error - so i have to do that again.

@davomrmac Problem following your guide on wireless is that yours is a Mac mine's a PC.

@PhilK1231 This might be asking for your WPA or security key/password, the one you use for accessing your wifi.

At first I thought this was a video for dummies, or for people requiring special care, but then I thought it's meant to cater for Mac user needs.
I love how you show 'here you have the power button".
Seriously though, if people need this kind of instructions - they shouldn't be allowed near a computer without unsupervised.

Is the power supply multiregion? - that is, is it compatible to 230V @ 50 hz and 110V @ 60 hz?
It seems like a good deal buying from the states - it costs 100 USD there and 230 USD here in Denmark.

@Anima87 It was multi-voltage, but I do not remember the specs.
