Brilliant interview, thanks for the upload. Good to see an intelligent exploration of Zappa as a person as well as his opinions on the issues of the day.
WOW what a great interview, I think it is the longest I have seen, and Ms. Freeman did an excellent job! FZ had so much wisdom and honesty in his pinky than most people have in their whole bodies these days! Thanks for posting.
Here we have Frank Zappa describing the US government importing cocaine from South America as part of Iran-Contra before it was widely known. Throughout the entire interview, he provided insights, offering truths hidden at the time and now revealed decades later. His analytical mind combined with the fact that he was one of the few nonconformists allowed him to see reality when the rest of the country was drug addled and bamboozled by the slime oozing out of their TV set.
@Liberty4Ever yes, isn't it wonderful how LOGIC and HONESTY together were able to apply such a powerful filter for him to remove the garbage and really get it down to brass tacks? Then again that was when honesty still had a fighting chance in all of these areas like the arts, poltics, etc. Imagine what he would think of Obama, Hillary/Bill, or Dubya. Stories like the gun-running to Mexico are considered normal somehow? I just have to laugh trying to imagine...he'd have a field day!
This might be the best inter view ever done with Mr. Zappa. Journalism classes should use this tape as an example of how to interview a person properly. this piece held my attention because it shows 2 ADULTS having an intelligent dialogue, without a lot of childish crap and cheap shots, a style that is rare in today's rude, dumbed down culture. Hats off to Ms. Freeman. Frank, as usual, was brilliant. R.I.P. sir you are sadly missed.
Brilliant! Thank you for putting this up. It's probably the first interview I've seen where he doesn't feel he has to resort to being funny, because the interviewer takes him seriously, properly listens to what he has to say and then builds on it. This could have gone on for another couple of hours and I would have watched all of it. He can't have been the easiest interviewee and she nailed it. Do you think she was a fan? Maybe she was involved in a Dance Contest on stage at some time...

I just discovered Frank Zappa and what he was about recently and I really wish he was still around. We need a voice like his in our times. Somehow I think he would be a Ron Paul supporter! This was a really great interview as well from Sandy Freeman. Just great!
Besides being a great musician, Frank was always completely honest, deeply intelligent, and totally correct. Anyone who cares about living a decent life would do well to listen to this and other interviews that he's given. I cannot put into words how much I miss him.
@TigerRocket There are many of us who miss him,but you have to be grateful for what he did and be happy if you were around to see the concerts and the sheer joy of not knowing what he was going to do next. To quote 'One Shot Deal - 'but you should be digging it while it's happening.....'cos it just might be a one shot deal'... cue steel guitar solo.
@adamg709 I'm totally grateful. I was fortunate to see him perform live many times and through several of the most talented bands ever assembled (Halloween has never been the same since...)
A one shot deal indeed...but Damn! What...A...Shot!! Here's to Frank.
@TigerRocket Right! I saw every British tour from '77 including the LSO at the Barbican (where I met Frank).
No other generation has had an iconic figure from the entertainment world who was such an articulate cultural commentator. In the comments on so many of these interviews people are saying how relevant his thoughts from 20/30 years ago are for today....so yes, here's to Frank.
If the US Gov can go to the other side of the planet, invade Iraq & win(sorta LMFAO) in a matter of weeks,WHY has "THE WAR ON DRUGS" not ended?Cant they go to South America(where the COKE is) & do win?
@toobularbells The CIA has been caught multiple times flying the drugs in. It's also been reported in the mainstream that our troops are guarding the poppy fields in Afghanistan... and it's probably the real reason we're there because Saddam didn't do 9/11 and bin Laden was a CIA operative named Tim Osman. The emperor is wearing no clothes and Frank Zappa was right.

So if Frank Zappa likes musicians who play their instruments well, what enjoyment does he get out of hearing the shaggs?
