I'm French and i live in the US, i'm tired of hearing french this french that all the time it makes you Americans have more people hate you for no reason.. i dont like the Americans' arrogance but i respect our friendship and alliance since the creation of this country. i'm actually thinking of joining the Marines but idk yet :D
Je suis français , I'm french and I'm proud to see our "boys" fight with yours. I know that in USA you have some people telling "French sucks , they live like in the 1940's " and I know that all american are not like that. But our actual president sucks , he want to be "bling bling" , you know ? God bless America et vive le France !
and i want say that i have nothing against usa, you are going in irak and we see in tv all the day that the idea was bad, so don't attack us verbaly. I want say "thank you" for normandie, fight against nazi etc. But since irak you are very hard with french culture army etc. and it's not intelligent, please stop that. And after perhaps we would accept to go in war with you. Sorry i am bad in english.
pardone moi monsigner (sp) for that idiot who happens to be our president and the neocons. I love the French and we have always been friends & allies (thank U 4 the statue of liberty...by the way). France didn'te get involved in iraq because they had something resembling a brain! Some of us get a little crude at times. Vive La France/God Bless America!!
We paid for every penny that piece of stone cost you x20. Don't try to act like that means shit. We paid for it with blood in 2 wars buddy that a lot of our citizens didn't agree with and when one pops up you don't like you turn your heads. We should have had a brain in 1917, and 1944 I guess. Our country didn't go to war to help you, we did it to take out Germany and your land mass was in our way..friends no, allies? When it was convienient for you!
Take our side when we are being invaded but we don't back you when you do something we don't agree with...Got it you selfish piece of shit. If not for us you would be speaking German on your Maginot Line. We are your best buddy when you are being overrun but you complain about shit when it doesn't affect you. Fuck off you pussy ass country.
(...)That's why the sentence "Nos ancêtres les Gaulois" (Our ancestors the Gallics) as teached in all schools in France is accurate for all Frenchmen and women whatever origins they are : this mean our ancestors "the real people" against the nobles and not some racial thing.
Sorry if I'm not clear and if I made a lot of mistakes... I'm Gall... er, French. ;)
(...)BUT for a long time, and you may say even now for some people, the first King of France for the "populace" was Vercingetorix, even if he lost at the time.
He was the King of the Gallics instead of Charlemagne who was the King of the elite, the Franks. (Vercingetorix never was a King but he tried to rally a good part of the Gaule to fight the Roman empire).(...)
(...)Charles Martel stopping the Moors at Poitiers (not Tours actually) : at the time the battle he won was just seen as a little "escarmouche" but it became (with the years) a sort of symbol.
As for the first King of France as a country, the official story tell, as Bushroot said, that it's Charlemagne, son of Pepin le Bref, son of Charles Martel.(...)
I'm a bit late but about Charles Martel and the Kings of France : I saw an historian the other day who explained that the Moor's invasion was not seen very bad by the "Gaulois" of the south of France because in the "Gaule", it was pretty barbaric. (but the West writing history books, you coudn't see that said very often) (...)
its good that at least we have international cooperation again. its good that we can participate in military training exercises together. sorta gives me hope...
to ubcs the foreign legion has won a battle which was kolwesi 1n the 70, also i dont think its the best in the world but possibly one of the toughest.
The Foreign Legion HAS never won a battle, that's a fact, but they fought like hell till it was over. My father told me stories about guys who joined the Legion, and they weren't fighting for a cause or a belief.
What I don't like about France is when certain politicians are accusing AMERICA of retreatism. It's nothing personal. I'd rather have France as an ally than an enemy, and I think it's the same for the French.
All I have to say to the French is, watch your asses when the Intifada starts. Don't let the politicians sell your country to the unassimilated immigrants, and stand up and fight if it comes to that. We'll be their to bail you out.
Oh gee, I was looking for qualitatives like >eloquent< and/or >well reasoned<. That's OK. I think I can handle it. Can you accomplish anything more intelectually, than just find two adjectives and glue it on somebody's position? Like -let's say- debate on its'premise, (or merit)? Really. I'd like to know, how long public education can carry a young person nowadays?
<i>Mireannach</i> we <b>do</b> live in a different World, (or at least in a different World of mind) I wouldn't have named those two political whores as role models, even if I would've lost the argument as a result.
We all know the french suck. Why do they bother to train with the US? its not like the french are ever going to fight a war without surrendering while hoping the magic 3 (US, UK, Australia) save their asses again.
The last time I checked, units of the Foreign Legion defeated all your units. So this is for your empty headed boasting. On one on one, they eat you for breakfast, and demand more.
The Foreign Legion has never won a single battle, because they were always sent into battles the French knew they could not win. US Marines have pulled victory out of the jaws of defeat countless times; THAT'S why they have the reputation they do. The Redcoats were better trained than the Revolutionaries, the SS were better than the Russians, but they didn't win because they were up against spirited, motivated opponents.
Yeah, that's all true, and because of that it doesn't prove anything other, than there were various circumstances, involving various players in different historical times. (Ie. no base for boastings and offensive behaviour regarding others)
Let me tell you, that in the older cultural cirle I came from, people despise those who are boasting, regardless if it has any truth in it or not.
The typical American behaviour is deeply offensive, all around the World. Just so you know it. If you have never heard about it before, why not get the news, from your cultural brother?
What exactly is the typical American behavior? Also because we are Americans it is ok to sterotype us? While it is wrong and even considered racist sometimes for us to do so?
It is what you can experience by reading this videopage and what I'm fighting against. Why do you ask obvious questions <i>mireannach?</i> Do you think it makes you look smarter, than who you really are?
I didn't see the answer to my question, and they were in no way obvious(I believe 'rhetorical' is the correct word there mate), so I must assume that you know that there is no "typical" American behavior, for the most part.
Now the final insult and low-blow from you <i>mireannach:</i> We have reached the point, when you're lecturing me about the English language.
You know, I'm sure it is possible somehow, to install a carriage-beam in front of a refined Mercedes, and harness-in a pair of rambunctious young American colts or mustangs, and the contraption may even go somewhere, after sufficient prodding and whipping, but why would anybody do that, and why would that be regarded as progress?
Congratulation, and I'm trully happy for you. Too bad however, that now you will be in an exclusively male company for a long time. Remember, what you do as a Marine, stays with the Marine. The outside World can only speculate, what the hell happens with all those virile young men, who suddenly find themselves solely in each other's company. There is simply not enough cold shower facilities in the military, (specially in the desert) to solve that pesky problem.
You know <i>'prettypuppy'</i> just by looking at what you wrote down, I was fairly certain of two things:
1)You are an American.
2)You are young.
Because of your education, you most likely don't have the slightest clue of French history either within the context of European history or without. Also as an American, you don't have the concept of a nation, having 1500-1600 years of history, like France has. If you would've, you would know, that during those long periods,
you will necessarly have both victories and defeats. France was for a long time the leading nation of Europe, with corresponding military victories. Just search wikipedia for the 'Battle of Tours' in 732 and the defence of Orléans and the subsequent liberation of northern France including the important city of coronation; Reims in 1429. Let's not forget, that neither the Renaissance, nor the Age of Enlightement can be imagined without the help of France which played a leading role.
During long periods of history the whole of European elite, (including the English) as well as artists and intellectuals continent-wide spoke French, regardless of their nationality. The thought that lowly English, which is regarded as a simple but inelegant language, suitable for shopkeepers, fishmongers and peasants but not much else has ever going to replace French as a <i>Langua Franca</i> appeared totaly ludicrous.
These are just some of the basic information you can absorb, to replace your arrogance, which is based on ignorance and replace it with some knowledge.
BTW. I'm neither Frenh nor French Canadian, so please do not bother me with the charge, that I 'talk up' them, for that reason.
1.) You define the "concept" of a nation as something that comes with 1500-1600 years of existence, albeit shameful. I could spew out monumental battles that the US. Marines fought in, the 101st Airborne Division, or the Pacific Fleet just as much as you can shit out the history of france. Don't forget where the french language evolved from, Latin, from the Romans who had a greater influence on the world than the anglo saxons.
<i>Prettypuppy</i> what you have brought up, is nothing more than a pleasant but short period, in the history of an <b>old</b> nation. Your general characterization of French history as 'shameful' is deeply insulting to <b>any</b> European, who has just a shred of education, and who knows that many European and Universal achievments throughout history, had been accomplised, only by French leadership.
BTW. You have completely and insultingly disregarded what I have wrote to you about French history, for the purpose to eliminate just the grossest sources of your ignorance. Frankly, America is hardly more culturaly and historicaly than a rough and crude adolescent. Qualities, which -if may I add,- you impersonate with your behaviour, quite well.
Making the assumption that he is an American on the basis of what he said, and then from that arriving at the assumption that he is poorly educated, shows more ignorance than what you are actually replying to. If you want to be an elitist, please do it properly.
I didn't make that assumption, without some long and painful experience through verbal and written exchanges with them. Secondly, I'm aware and studied the history of the American Public Education, and its designed deterioration, which started slowly in the 20's in the last century, and then it has intensified, from the 70s on. This decline is such, that by now there are masses of 14-15 years old, who are basically semi-literate to the great embarrasment of all. My apologies, to the exceptions.
If you're as intelligent as you think you are, then surely you can see why you shouldn't be posting such ignorant comments. Thank you for taking the time to come down to our level for some written exchanges though!
<i>Athmpsn242,</i> it is true, that my comments are sharply critical and also bitter, but I didn't make that originally to put other people down (although I understand it has that effect), and particularly not to show in any way, some sort of superiority on my part. If I would be the product of that education, I would be like any one of you.
No, I see that instead as a common concern and a challenge, to try to wake-up people about what is happening in a country,
which at one time truly was the beacon of the World, and not a loathsome bully and an international pariah. Also I'm aware, that during the 19th century, America had the most educated and more importantly, the most independent minded and innovative citizenry. I will not take away any credit from America, if my counterpart also shows intelligence, moderation, and a hint of recognition about the spectacular decline.
Even if it wasn't your intent to put others down, yet you understood that it would have that effect when you did so, then what is the difference between intending and not intending? On the whole, America is still the leading country in the world, with significant advantages in many areas of politics, culture, technology, and economics. America has had its military deployed in some kind of conflict almost every single year of our existance,
so you can't really just call us a "loathsome bully" because of the current conflicts. Geopolitics isn't candy-coated, and it would be foolish for us not to throw our weight around in the arena. International pariah? Maybe. Deserved? In some cases. But like in sports, everyone loves to hate the winning team.
No that's not it, and you are somewhat disingenious too. <i>athmpsn242</i> there is no chance of any improvement, untill there is a recognition that there are deeply seated problems. At this point of the game, the stakes are higher than just to 'save face', and defend the country from some pesky charges. Beside it's futile too, because let me assure you, the World and any intelligent denizen of the World can see through the obfuscation, the propaganda and the lies.
Furthermore, I will not debate your hairsplitting sophistry about the difference between 'intending and not intending', (which I would most likely loose). The flogging and the humiliation exercise was <b>intended to break through the thick wall of arrogance,</b> you guys are so famous for.
Don't deceive yourself that it will suffice with me, if you utilize your idiotic public education and your mass-media cheerleading mantra, such as 'the winning team is widely hated', and other well worn hooey. You can do better than that.
So instead of me telling you the things, why not try again, (this time with some honesty on your part) to a listener who is concerned, who is used to be your admirer, and still can be your friend again. (maybe)
Who if not another unrelated European, who should come to the aid, when these moronic, childish, insuffurable Americans, (basically Europe's rejects) start to boast and brag based on nothing. They have no culture, no style, no dignity, no shame.
Let me assure you, that the whole European continent in its entirety shares those values, and in spite of our occasional and trivial political differences, (at least on the educated and sophisticated level), there is a uniform respect for France, and in many instances actually there is great affection, and even infatuation with France, for what it has symbolized throughout the centuries, and represent still.
Of course any person with half a brain can look and see why we are in the Middle East. It's the intelligent people who can see that and understand why we are there and why it can be justified. Most Western oil production is locked into the Middle East, and production is being cut back because of the gradual realization that they do not have an infinite supply. China has the possibility to meet and exceed our own oil consumtion, and they are quickly tying down production in Africa.

Combine that with civil strife in these nations such as Nigeria and the emergence of hostile governments in nations such as Venezuela (one of our largest oil suppliers outside of the ME), and it is easy to see why we are taking drastic measures to secure oil. International pariah? Maybe. Deserved? In some cases. It is just funny that we have to defend ourselves to the same Western nations who we are to some degree in every case acting as a shield for.
<i>Athmpsn242,</i> I thank you for your answer, and for your effort to find hidden underlying motives. I'm slowly coming to the recognition, that it is totally unfair to play the stern schoolmaster with anyone within this 500 characters limit, to describe long term systematic failures such as what it is which plagues America -and in extension our World,- and offer comprehensive solutions for that. Some of these problems are social, others political and economical.
And of course we have looming ecological and even civilisational/religious issues, which only culminating and intensifying lately, like the end-game of some sort of devilish plan, which might have originated centuries, or in some aspect millenia ago and only lately bear its bitter poisoned fruit, into full ripeness. I wish you determination and good luck, for never giving up your demonstrated intellectual curiosity and the quest for deeper Truth.
Well earlier you said that many things would not have been possible without the French. Without any insult to the French intended, would the first Crusade not be one of those events?
Well actually 14-15 year olds are better educated than people 21-24 or older, and we can thank Geroge W. Bush for this. Also 40% of American schools are now on par or exceed the average of a European school, with another 30% on there way.
Well, seems you do not know Frances history yourself. France not becoming a country till much after the year 800 A.D. Since I am rusty on when the Roman Empire fell, I cannot remember when France became a country.
Nobody know everything mireannach. King Martel (or Charles Martel) at 731 has stopped the Moors'expansion at Tours, so that is early 8th century. The western Roman Empire has ceased to exist 460-470 AD barely 20 years after the largest battle at the time in Cataloon against Attila the Hun, when the two Empires basically fatally crippled each other. Both have disappeared within a generation.
Minor historical correction there: Charles Martel was not king, but Majordomo to the Merovingian king. Although he had the true power, it is not technically correct to refer to him as king. Not until Pepin III (Martel's son) took power upon permission from the pope that the Carolingians became king.
Right <i>Bushroot.</i> I'm not sure what's the significance of the titular shortcoming of <i>Charles Martel,</i> in regard to his victory at Tours, where he stopped the Moorish conquest of Europe, which I cited as only one example of the glory of France, to badly educated, yet disrespectful and mouthy young Americans. -Cont.-
-Cont.- Furthermore, I never claimed to be a walking encyclopedia, because it would be untrue. I rather have knowledge which is a mile wide and several feet deep, than have a limited scope of only a few feet wide, even if its a mile deep. I would never know, how to climb out of that deep trench of knowledge. ☺
Regardless of that however, I'm duly impressed by your encyclopaedic knowledge at such young age. Keep continue to read and educate yourself, to be rather the exception, than the 'rule'.
It's only because I happen to be a francophile who majors in history that I know that, to be honest. My specialty is actually the military history of France during World War Two (no jokes), mostly post Blitzkrieg (Free and Vichy French).
I just tend to be an obsessive compulsive perfectionist, so I thought I'd correct that little fact so that readers would get the 100% accurate history. Never know when such a thing might come up on a trivia!
Right, your education and prepardness shows convicingly <i>Bushrot</i>. Have you red through my correspondance and exchange with those people who started it, by making grossly insulting and unfactual and/or out-of-context statements, which I couldn't tolerate to leave without replies on my own.
Just between each other: What's your opinion about those, and how do you relate to your compatriots, who hold such uninformed and unbalanced beliefs?
I usually do the responding in these types of comments (though not so much in Youtube), but you handled it quite well.
When it comes to history, I make no exceptions for false history. History is, unfortunately, a subject that most Americans (and much of the rest of the world) have little knowledge of. I do what I can to try to educate my peers, but unfortunately most people find history a dull subject, and so tend to just ignore me and go on preaching what they heard on popular TV shows.
I personally believe that there is an overwhelming trait in present-day Americans of being gullible to the effects of propaganda, a truth that I believe applies in more than one way. Generally there are radicals on both side of any fence who are too willing to block out any information that does not comply with their vision of the world. During certain time periods, there just happens to be more one one side of the fence than the other.
You have given me a marvellously far sided, well balanced and intelligent assessment.
One thing though: Although you are perfectly correct in your evaluation about present educational conditions, still 30-35 yrs. ago when I attended school, there were still teaching world and national history in the small central-European country where I'm originated from. -Cont.-
I'm delighted to see that some people here have not been brainwashed by their government! Hating the French because they didn't get involved in the Iraqi war is senseless. Indeed the French army is well trained and cowardism is no part of French culture. If your going to post a dumb stereotype or racist comment on youtube try to refrain because it's abusive of the great freedom of speech that the USA grants you and that so many humans wish for.
French people are cowards who eat frog legs and drink shitty wine and eat moldy cheese suitable for maggots, they surrender at the first hint of violence and mock their liberators and support terrorism.
To every idiotic French-hater Yanks: Without the French Naval help blockading the English and their supply, and helping you with substantial arms shipment, Lord Cornwallis and his British regulars would've wiped the floor with your George Washington and his rag-tag half-defeated rebel Army.
Good come back <i>S3xiiness,</i> I give it to you, even if its not quite factual the way you put it. After all, there was Vichy with the official language French and even in occupied France, like in Paris for example, but elsewhere too, there was still full blown French language film and theater production and of course their public education was still French.
Neverless, I understand what you are getting at. Let's just say, that without D-day, there would be no France with a proudly independent Great Power status, with prestige and ego enhancing perks, like being the permanent member of the UN Security Council and so on. I think, we can all agree, that a historical debt has been fully and honestly paid back, by the United States of America.
yea....uuuuh ok... but if america hadnt help, you wouldnt be typing on youtube nor would you even be born. Your parents would be dead and great great parents. Either way if we hadnt help all of EUROPE IS ONE BIG NAZI COUNTRY LOL! WITH DICTATORSHIP/ABSOLUTE POWER! And can you imagine how many More MILLIONS OF PEOPLE WOULD BE EXECUTED? LOL!
to this idiot we saved the french in the first world war....then again in the secound if it wasnt fo us saving you ass twice that fucking tower you have would sever has hitlers shiter
<i>proudamerican</i> we don't know that. When you guys entered the war in 1917 the western allies, had been fighting almost 3 years with Germany. The lines were holding. It's true that the Americans finally tipped the balance, in 1918 to gain a victory, but talk this one up, as 'saving the French's ass' is just the usual empty headed Yankie boasting. Beside, you wouldn't needed to sent the troops, if your traitorous Willson, who was the agent of the international Jewish bankers,
would've reined earlier, on his friends, who financed the Bolshevik revolution in Russia, and then sent a boatloads of Jewish-revolutionaries from Bronx, to subvert and overthrow, the by then democratic Kerenskey government, who neverless still, fulfilled its allied obligation against the Germans. The Bolsheviks sued for peace with Germany, thus releaving the bulk of the German forces in the East, to be employed in the spring of 1918 in the Western Front.
<i>proudamerican,</i> you an indoctrinated sheeple, your country is fighting in the ME, for the Zionists in Israel, while the last vestiges of the old constitutional guaranties of your Freedom is gradually being dismantled, in front of your eyes by a small vicious elite, (an internal enemy) who you fucking chicken to fight. Your boasting and agression, and your series of attacks on small nations, covers-up your basically coward personality.
'Proudamerican', your nation became a nation of cursed idiots and morons, hated by basically everyone in the World, including your erstwhile friends. Your fucking empire's demise, which is just around the corner, can not come soon enough.
YEAH im a YANKEE and damn fucking pround of our soldiers and Marines.if those insurgets were men they would wear uniforms and meet us in a battle field.they cant win and you know that.don ever call any American soldier of Marine a coward I garentee you would never say any shit like that to a Mairnes face he would whoop the shit outa your canadian ass. i wouldnt never diss on your canadian soldiers beacuse of there service to afganistan.
Whos the coward, i ask you.someone who hids behind there own people to defend and fight so when we do take action we kill insergents and civians SHIT HAPPINS ITS WAR.
and you are correct no Empire last forever, take Brittan and france for example both held world power, then slumbed to a lower level. there is no doute America will face the same fate. However we will never be whipped off the map nor will we be a small dimished counrty for more then a few years.
<b>They are</b> the real internal enemy, but you need both <b>political</b> courage and intelligence to recognize that. Something, which is in short supply among the US citizenry, nowadays.
Any way, I think I've finished with you <i>'proudamerican'.</i> With you, and your excessive pride, proud for ever fewer things, worthy to be proud of.
"in front of your eyes by a small vicious elite, (an internal enemy) who you fucking chicken to fight." those are your exact words so go ahead and sit behind your computer screen and talk all your shit but if you ever have the pleasure of coming face to face with a U.S. Marine let him know that he to chicken to fight and then tell me what happins.
The quoted statement, to a person endowed with an adult, discerning mind's interpretation, won't mean, a sentence about military combat or being discouraged to fight a uniformed enemy, by a uniformed member of the US Armed Forces. Frankly, I'm a bit tired to 'debate' you <i>'proudamerican,'</i> so go ahead, and give your best shot next time. I'll concede to you the right to finish our exchange, not because you are better, but because you are more persistent.
wah man I didn't realize you for such anti semitism. Do you think the Jewish people have suffered enough, and done enough things right in Israel, that they can breathe some kind air in this world?
Goldenpanda, you look to me like a nice guy, but what you raise is an emotional argument, and as such it is utterly unfair. Yes, throughout history many Jews suffered at various times. Conversely, there are many Gentiles suffered too, at the hands of the Jews. Pls. verify the merit of my argument for yourself, before jumping to conclusion and label me. It might suprise you, but I don't see myself as an anti-Semite, but rather a truthteller, who doesn't care, where the chips may fall.
I don't understand at all. No Jew led ANY European country during ANY of its terrible wars. You can say they schemed this or that (for what reason is not clear), but they were not ones ultimately in charge. Shouldn't gentiles that led their countries into war bear the responsibility?
Ok fools, I made this video, I trained with the French. So unless you actually know what your talking about, shut up. I don't give a fuck about the French's foreign policy, all I know is that the French Marines are professional, well trained, and motivated.
Cool vid. Don't listen to the ignorants, I served in the US Marine Corps and the french don't owe us to fight unjustified wars. I support the troops in Iraq 100%, but not the war. We could learn a lot from the French both culturally and militarily. The French are a great people and are smart enough not to involve themselves in a senseless and chaotic war.
It's not physically or morally possible to support the troops and not what they do. It's like saying you support abortion, but not killing babies. You can't have it both ways.
What total bullshit, why shouldn't it be possible? The troops don't decide to go to war, it's politicians that make that decision. Why can't I disagree with the politicians desicion but still be supportive of the troops who are just doing what they're told to do. A lot of them think the war is bullshit too. And I was one of them, so don't tell me I can't support them!
You people who commented negatively about France are sadly misinformed due to popular culture. French individuals are no less brave then American, German, etc individuals.
Weak guns??? Have you ever shot an M16 you idiot? Because that is a truly weak rifle! You get 2 grains of sand in that thing and it jams. Sure it's pretty accurate at long range but that is useless if it won't fire to begin with.
Wow the French actually train their military to fight rather than just parade through the streets with a sense of victory after US troops do all the real fighting, then go home to their freedom granted to them by the sacrifice of American troops and then proceed to attack American verbally.

As for the first King of France as a country, the official story tell, as Bushroot said, that it's Charlemagne, son of Pepin le Bref, son of Charles Martel.(...)
bluetigerfilms 4 years ago
I'm a bit late but about Charles Martel and the Kings of France : I saw an historian the other day who explained that the Moor's invasion was not seen very bad by the "Gaulois" of the south of France because in the "Gaule", it was pretty barbaric. (but the West writing history books, you coudn't see that said very often) (...)

UBCS12347 5 years ago
All I have to say to the French is, watch your asses when the Intifada starts. Don't let the politicians sell your country to the unassimilated immigrants, and stand up and fight if it comes to that. We'll be their to bail you out.

The last time I checked, units of the Foreign Legion defeated all your units. So this is for your empty headed boasting. On one on one, they eat you for breakfast, and demand more.
wotan20 5 years ago
The Foreign Legion has never won a single battle, because they were always sent into battles the French knew they could not win. US Marines have pulled victory out of the jaws of defeat countless times; THAT'S why they have the reputation they do. The Redcoats were better trained than the Revolutionaries, the SS were better than the Russians, but they didn't win because they were up against spirited, motivated opponents.
UBCS12347 5 years ago
Yeah, that's all true, and because of that it doesn't prove anything other, than there were various circumstances, involving various players in different historical times. (Ie. no base for boastings and offensive behaviour regarding others)
wotan20 5 years ago
Let me tell you, that in the older cultural cirle I came from, people despise those who are boasting, regardless if it has any truth in it or not.
The typical American behaviour is deeply offensive, all around the World. Just so you know it. If you have never heard about it before, why not get the news, from your cultural brother?
wotan20 5 years ago
What exactly is the typical American behavior? Also because we are Americans it is ok to sterotype us? While it is wrong and even considered racist sometimes for us to do so?

Pewptypeupty 5 years ago
You know <i>'prettypuppy'</i> just by looking at what you wrote down, I was fairly certain of two things:
1)You are an American.
2)You are young.
Because of your education, you most likely don't have the slightest clue of French history either within the context of European history or without. Also as an American, you don't have the concept of a nation, having 1500-1600 years of history, like France has. If you would've, you would know, that during those long periods,
wotan20 5 years ago
you will necessarly have both victories and defeats. France was for a long time the leading nation of Europe, with corresponding military victories. Just search wikipedia for the 'Battle of Tours' in 732 and the defence of Orléans and the subsequent liberation of northern France including the important city of coronation; Reims in 1429. Let's not forget, that neither the Renaissance, nor the Age of Enlightement can be imagined without the help of France which played a leading role.
wotan20 5 years ago
During long periods of history the whole of European elite, (including the English) as well as artists and intellectuals continent-wide spoke French, regardless of their nationality. The thought that lowly English, which is regarded as a simple but inelegant language, suitable for shopkeepers, fishmongers and peasants but not much else has ever going to replace French as a <i>Langua Franca</i> appeared totaly ludicrous.
wotan20 5 years ago
These are just some of the basic information you can absorb, to replace your arrogance, which is based on ignorance and replace it with some knowledge.
BTW. I'm neither Frenh nor French Canadian, so please do not bother me with the charge, that I 'talk up' them, for that reason.
wotan20 5 years ago
1.) You define the "concept" of a nation as something that comes with 1500-1600 years of existence, albeit shameful. I could spew out monumental battles that the US. Marines fought in, the 101st Airborne Division, or the Pacific Fleet just as much as you can shit out the history of france. Don't forget where the french language evolved from, Latin, from the Romans who had a greater influence on the world than the anglo saxons.
Pewptypeupty 5 years ago
<i>Prettypuppy</i> what you have brought up, is nothing more than a pleasant but short period, in the history of an <b>old</b> nation. Your general characterization of French history as 'shameful' is deeply insulting to <b>any</b> European, who has just a shred of education, and who knows that many European and Universal achievments throughout history, had been accomplised, only by French leadership.
wotan20 5 years ago
BTW. You have completely and insultingly disregarded what I have wrote to you about French history, for the purpose to eliminate just the grossest sources of your ignorance. Frankly, America is hardly more culturaly and historicaly than a rough and crude adolescent. Qualities, which -if may I add,- you impersonate with your behaviour, quite well.
wotan20 5 years ago
Making the assumption that he is an American on the basis of what he said, and then from that arriving at the assumption that he is poorly educated, shows more ignorance than what you are actually replying to. If you want to be an elitist, please do it properly.
athmpsn242 5 years ago
I didn't make that assumption, without some long and painful experience through verbal and written exchanges with them. Secondly, I'm aware and studied the history of the American Public Education, and its designed deterioration, which started slowly in the 20's in the last century, and then it has intensified, from the 70s on. This decline is such, that by now there are masses of 14-15 years old, who are basically semi-literate to the great embarrasment of all. My apologies, to the exceptions.
wotan20 5 years ago
If you're as intelligent as you think you are, then surely you can see why you shouldn't be posting such ignorant comments. Thank you for taking the time to come down to our level for some written exchanges though!
athmpsn242 5 years ago
<i>Athmpsn242,</i> it is true, that my comments are sharply critical and also bitter, but I didn't make that originally to put other people down (although I understand it has that effect), and particularly not to show in any way, some sort of superiority on my part. If I would be the product of that education, I would be like any one of you.
No, I see that instead as a common concern and a challenge, to try to wake-up people about what is happening in a country,
wotan20 5 years ago
which at one time truly was the beacon of the World, and not a loathsome bully and an international pariah. Also I'm aware, that during the 19th century, America had the most educated and more importantly, the most independent minded and innovative citizenry. I will not take away any credit from America, if my counterpart also shows intelligence, moderation, and a hint of recognition about the spectacular decline.
wotan20 5 years ago
Even if it wasn't your intent to put others down, yet you understood that it would have that effect when you did so, then what is the difference between intending and not intending? On the whole, America is still the leading country in the world, with significant advantages in many areas of politics, culture, technology, and economics. America has had its military deployed in some kind of conflict almost every single year of our existance,
athmpsn242 5 years ago
so you can't really just call us a "loathsome bully" because of the current conflicts. Geopolitics isn't candy-coated, and it would be foolish for us not to throw our weight around in the arena. International pariah? Maybe. Deserved? In some cases. But like in sports, everyone loves to hate the winning team.
athmpsn242 5 years ago
No that's not it, and you are somewhat disingenious too. <i>athmpsn242</i> there is no chance of any improvement, untill there is a recognition that there are deeply seated problems. At this point of the game, the stakes are higher than just to 'save face', and defend the country from some pesky charges. Beside it's futile too, because let me assure you, the World and any intelligent denizen of the World can see through the obfuscation, the propaganda and the lies.
wotan20 5 years ago
Furthermore, I will not debate your hairsplitting sophistry about the difference between 'intending and not intending', (which I would most likely loose). The flogging and the humiliation exercise was <b>intended to break through the thick wall of arrogance,</b> you guys are so famous for.
wotan20 5 years ago
Don't deceive yourself that it will suffice with me, if you utilize your idiotic public education and your mass-media cheerleading mantra, such as 'the winning team is widely hated', and other well worn hooey. You can do better than that.
So instead of me telling you the things, why not try again, (this time with some honesty on your part) to a listener who is concerned, who is used to be your admirer, and still can be your friend again. (maybe)
wotan20 5 years ago
I must say I'm impressed by your rhetoric.

It is just funny that we have to defend ourselves to the same Western nations who we are to some degree in every case acting as a shield for.
athmpsn242 5 years ago
<i>Athmpsn242,</i> I thank you for your answer, and for your effort to find hidden underlying motives. I'm slowly coming to the recognition, that it is totally unfair to play the stern schoolmaster with anyone within this 500 characters limit, to describe long term systematic failures such as what it is which plagues America -and in extension our World,- and offer comprehensive solutions for that. Some of these problems are social, others political and economical.
wotan20 5 years ago
And of course we have looming ecological and even civilisational/religious issues, which only culminating and intensifying lately, like the end-game of some sort of devilish plan, which might have originated centuries, or in some aspect millenia ago and only lately bear its bitter poisoned fruit, into full ripeness. I wish you determination and good luck, for never giving up your demonstrated intellectual curiosity and the quest for deeper Truth.
wotan20 5 years ago

mireannach 5 years ago
I think more Americans are aware of what is happening then you would ever care to admit.
mireannach 5 years ago
Well actually 14-15 year olds are better educated than people 21-24 or older, and we can thank Geroge W. Bush for this. Also 40% of American schools are now on par or exceed the average of a European school, with another 30% on there way.
mireannach 5 years ago
Well, seems you do not know Frances history yourself. France not becoming a country till much after the year 800 A.D. Since I am rusty on when the Roman Empire fell, I cannot remember when France became a country.
mireannach 5 years ago
Nobody know everything mireannach. King Martel (or Charles Martel) at 731 has stopped the Moors'expansion at Tours, so that is early 8th century. The western Roman Empire has ceased to exist 460-470 AD barely 20 years after the largest battle at the time in Cataloon against Attila the Hun, when the two Empires basically fatally crippled each other. Both have disappeared within a generation.
wotan20 5 years ago
I wasn't sure on the exact year, so thanks for clarifying that.
mireannach 5 years ago
Minor historical correction there: Charles Martel was not king, but Majordomo to the Merovingian king. Although he had the true power, it is not technically correct to refer to him as king. Not until Pepin III (Martel's son) took power upon permission from the pope that the Carolingians became king.
Bushroot 4 years ago
Right <i>Bushroot.</i> I'm not sure what's the significance of the titular shortcoming of <i>Charles Martel,</i> in regard to his victory at Tours, where he stopped the Moorish conquest of Europe, which I cited as only one example of the glory of France, to badly educated, yet disrespectful and mouthy young Americans. -Cont.-
wotan20 4 years ago
-Cont.- Furthermore, I never claimed to be a walking encyclopedia, because it would be untrue. I rather have knowledge which is a mile wide and several feet deep, than have a limited scope of only a few feet wide, even if its a mile deep. I would never know, how to climb out of that deep trench of knowledge. ☺
Regardless of that however, I'm duly impressed by your encyclopaedic knowledge at such young age. Keep continue to read and educate yourself, to be rather the exception, than the 'rule'.
wotan20 4 years ago
It's only because I happen to be a francophile who majors in history that I know that, to be honest. My specialty is actually the military history of France during World War Two (no jokes), mostly post Blitzkrieg (Free and Vichy French).
I just tend to be an obsessive compulsive perfectionist, so I thought I'd correct that little fact so that readers would get the 100% accurate history. Never know when such a thing might come up on a trivia!
Bushroot 4 years ago
Right, your education and prepardness shows convicingly <i>Bushrot</i>. Have you red through my correspondance and exchange with those people who started it, by making grossly insulting and unfactual and/or out-of-context statements, which I couldn't tolerate to leave without replies on my own.
Just between each other: What's your opinion about those, and how do you relate to your compatriots, who hold such uninformed and unbalanced beliefs?
wotan20 4 years ago
I usually do the responding in these types of comments (though not so much in Youtube), but you handled it quite well.
When it comes to history, I make no exceptions for false history. History is, unfortunately, a subject that most Americans (and much of the rest of the world) have little knowledge of. I do what I can to try to educate my peers, but unfortunately most people find history a dull subject, and so tend to just ignore me and go on preaching what they heard on popular TV shows.
Bushroot 4 years ago
I personally believe that there is an overwhelming trait in present-day Americans of being gullible to the effects of propaganda, a truth that I believe applies in more than one way. Generally there are radicals on both side of any fence who are too willing to block out any information that does not comply with their vision of the world. During certain time periods, there just happens to be more one one side of the fence than the other.

The Bolsheviks sued for peace with Germany, thus releaving the bulk of the German forces in the East, to be employed in the spring of 1918 in the Western Front.

"in front of your eyes by a small vicious elite, (an internal enemy) who you fucking chicken to fight." those are your exact words so go ahead and sit behind your computer screen and talk all your shit but if you ever have the pleasure of coming face to face with a U.S. Marine let him know that he to chicken to fight and then tell me what happins.
proudamerican101 5 years ago
The quoted statement, to a person endowed with an adult, discerning mind's interpretation, won't mean, a sentence about military combat or being discouraged to fight a uniformed enemy, by a uniformed member of the US Armed Forces. Frankly, I'm a bit tired to 'debate' you <i>'proudamerican,'</i> so go ahead, and give your best shot next time. I'll concede to you the right to finish our exchange, not because you are better, but because you are more persistent.

wah man I didn't realize you for such anti semitism. Do you think the Jewish people have suffered enough, and done enough things right in Israel, that they can breathe some kind air in this world?
goldenpanda 5 years ago
Goldenpanda, you look to me like a nice guy, but what you raise is an emotional argument, and as such it is utterly unfair. Yes, throughout history many Jews suffered at various times. Conversely, there are many Gentiles suffered too, at the hands of the Jews. Pls. verify the merit of my argument for yourself, before jumping to conclusion and label me. It might suprise you, but I don't see myself as an anti-Semite, but rather a truthteller, who doesn't care, where the chips may fall.
wotan20 5 years ago
I don't understand at all. No Jew led ANY European country during ANY of its terrible wars. You can say they schemed this or that (for what reason is not clear), but they were not ones ultimately in charge. Shouldn't gentiles that led their countries into war bear the responsibility?
goldenpanda 5 years ago
No, it seems from your previous posts that you do care where the chips fall.

Next time make sure you have internationl backing BEFORE you start your personal oil wars and expect other people to jump in them.
No one is obliged to help you just because you are "fighting terror." Sort out your own, very badly planned, shit.

Ok fools, I made this video, I trained with the French. So unless you actually know what your talking about, shut up. I don't give a fuck about the French's foreign policy, all I know is that the French Marines are professional, well trained, and motivated.

OOH RAH. They seemed to be from the videos.
mireannach 5 years ago
Obelix6 5 years ago 2
It's not physically or morally possible to support the troops and not what they do. It's like saying you support abortion, but not killing babies. You can't have it both ways.
mireannach 5 years ago
What total bullshit, why shouldn't it be possible? The troops don't decide to go to war, it's politicians that make that decision. Why can't I disagree with the politicians desicion but still be supportive of the troops who are just doing what they're told to do. A lot of them think the war is bullshit too. And I was one of them, so don't tell me I can't support them!

oh yea and thx for all of the help in the iraq war.
you surely helped us alot.
NOT
you did nothing you french cowards
Sturmmann 5 years ago

a famas in your ass wouldnt be weirdly weak.
mariu86 5 years ago
You people who commented negatively about France are sadly misinformed due to popular culture. French individuals are no less brave then American, German, etc individuals.
redbeast2 5 years ago
I agree, not all French are weak. Seem to be good people for te most part.
mireannach 5 years ago 2
Weak guns??? Have you ever shot an M16 you idiot? Because that is a truly weak rifle! You get 2 grains of sand in that thing and it jams. Sure it's pretty accurate at long range but that is useless if it won't fire to begin with.
Obelix6 5 years ago
Wow the French actually train their military to fight rather than just parade through the streets with a sense of victory after US troops do all the real fighting, then go home to their freedom granted to them by the sacrifice of American troops and then proceed to attack American verbally.

Who are more elite, the French Marines or the Legionaires?
Sandalboy 5 years ago
There is no answer to that question. They both do different jobs but as far as training wise i give it to the Marines.
