However, to skeptics that doubt Cook, perhaps he was quiet because the shooter was his best friend (Freeman) who had acted to defend Cook and Mumia after Faulkner viciously beat Cook and unjustifiably shot Mumia (almost killing him).

Note that witnesses Veronica Jones and Dessie Hightower both said they saw someone run away before police arrived. They were both intimidated by police because of this.
