  • DL the audio from this song at tubepull doht cohm.

  • I too have this LP and when i bought it in 1976 i was one one of the lucky ones because here in Britain it was withdrawn from sale a few weeks later due to the fact that Gustav Holst's daughter Imogen still held copyright on his music and RCA had not sought her permission before issuing the record. It was only re-issued after her death.

  • I too have this on LP. I used to lay in bed with my speakers teepeed over my head and just zone out to this. Great memories :)

  • Tomita lost his marbles on this one.

  • se parece mucho a "Así hablo en computador de CoMDASuAR" del año 1978 Chile

  • super relax

  • My Dad had this on vinyl when I was a kid - its excellent!

  • I grew up listening to this album. Great stuff!

  • when this LP came out in the UK it was quickly withdrawn. because a relitive of holst objected to it.how shortsighted was she.eventually she died and we poms where finally alowed to listen to this masterpiece and this track is my fav i also have all his albums and duplicated on cd where available.. thank you tomita for shareing tour talents with us mear mortals you are a genius..pete

  • @petethepomie Imogen Holst, daughter of Gustav, objected strongly to this rendition. When she died, it was able to be released. I must confess that I'm not a huge fan of this as much as I am of Firebird or the Debussy catalogue, but there are some truly glorious moments throughtout.

  • @Bass5el You tube videos don’t do justice to these Tomita works. They should be listened to on stereo hi fi sets. The reason I like Tomita’s version of the classics is there are a lot of personal interpretations to the music. The effects of using electronic equipment instead of orchestras are you get a deeper richer sound with more feelings and emotions to the music. The end result is a familiar yet very spacey unearthly sounds.

  • Synthly the most interstellar sounds in the Milky Way!

Completely ignorant of Tomita until YouTube. What planet was I on?

  • @pylgrym aaaaaah, bad puns!!!!! :P

  • I would love a windup musicbox shaped like a tank that plays the intro when you open the top hatch. It has an incredibly ominous quality to it. Very very cool...

  • Excellent.

I read on his website the "voices" were completely synthesized and none mouth was involved in their recording.

    Really a great synth magician!

  • @Arthur60 He never used real humans even on his choirs sounds. How he got such sounds from a modular I will never know. That's why is considered to be the god of synthesis.

  • @Booger6995 Hey - the choir sounds were produced using a Mellotron. It is a keyboard instrument that triggers tapes, prerecorded with things like ... choir, strings, flute etc. A clunky electromechanical musical instrument which did amazing things before the widespread use of samplers. Hope this helps. Also, Tomita is a true genius / pioneer and master of electronic music. All hail Tomita.

  • @Booger6995 Not all of his choir sounds came from the Mellotron. He actually got some of them from hid modular therefore my comment. Doesn't matter though. The guys a genius.

  • me too! in fact-i"ve got all his early albums, -seems like a long-forgotten lifetime away, on another planet! what the hell, i"m still here!

  • ESPECTACULARRRR!!!!!

  • This original version is absolutely spectacular, clicks and all. Zap, I'd love to have the mp3 to this whole set, poor quality and all, if you can!

  • what year is this?

  • @robertopinarizzo

Actually, the Planets album was released in 1976.

  • I remember this from my youth. Headphones ftw...

  • un gran cover de un gran clasico "MARTE EL DIOS DE LA GUERRA"

  • there is no life on mars but he sure showed me what it would be like

  • I've got to say that I enjoy these Tomita arrangements more than the originals.

  • The quality is not poor, is enought good.

  • Wow. Takes me back. I forgot about that music-box like and vocoder part at the beginning. Fun stuff.

  • There's NO vocoder in the entire album. It's analog synthesis. I have the same system and I used to do the same sound on it. Absolutely great, I admire Tomita!

  • RAMSES BRINGER OF WAR

  • @Oceanus2690 niiiiiillllllleeeee (but the original is gustav holst, gotta give credit!)

  • You are right, but in fact these words are original of the book of H.G.Wells, and they always come to my mind when I listen to this work of Tomita, because I always imagine a Martian invasion while listen this music :-)

  • I've always pictured the original rendition (classical) would be a good video chronicle of 20th century warfare (ending with Hiroshima). Tomita's version would pick up the thread and take it to future warfare.

  • "No one would have believed, in the last years of then nineteenth century, that human affairs were being watched from the timeless worlds of space." Oh, yeah!!

  • @juanjoeriador

Hmmm, that quote's from the album 'War of the Worlds' by Jeff Wayne, isn't it? ;-)

  • Hey that's not the full Mars, it continues..

  • First time I played this on earphones in the 80's half way up a mountain. 2 Phantom Jets went passed me at the precise time of the rocket launch.....Absolutely perfect bliss!

  • tomita is the god of synth i have all his LP's

  • I loved this album when I was a kid. I used to pretend that I was in a space shuttle on the way to Mars.

  • Man, I think I just blew my speakers.

  • I have this fucking record in 33 rpm LP. Fuck i´m feeling old.

  • Right there with ya..lol..got ALL of his LP's from the 70's..Dad turned me onto him as a kid. Amazing stuff.

  • You are too old, but this LP is not old still now. Your comment is truly fucking stupid.

  • @jaa93997 I have about 5 of his records...al vinyl 33 1/3 rpm. Yes you are old..as am I

  • @jaa93997 You should be feeling like a LEGEND!!

  • @jaa93997 Welcome to my world. You ain't that old by the way. I have it on LP also. Damn!! Maybe we both are too old.

  • Close Encounters ???

  • older than it.about 1976,I think

    とても古い作品です。

  • Awesome Jupiter anthem glockenspiel-style, and very funny voice-version *g*
