    :D

  • Yeah, this is a copy of STUDIO SITAR designed and created by Sanjay Rikhi Ram for maestro Pt.Ravi Shankar as seen on his concerts.

  • Beautifully played on a nice instrument!

  • I love his playing style he does not make expressions on face or bob his head as the so called ustads and pandits frequently do pure talant and calm composure

  • why not beginners?

  • He plays nice and his creation is fantastic. I love sitar...

  • Very nice sound and nice playing

  • now this is wat i call playing sitar....not like niladri's metal mania style....:/.....hindustani instrument shld be treated like a hindustani musical inst.....at least in fusion, the integrity of a particular instrument shld be maintained.....if niladri needed such sounds, y not use an electric guitar......

  • I completely agree. I have seen Niladri Kumar perform pure classical music, and he is a maestro at it! Beyond excellent! I don't know why he doesn't stick to classical music. He would be the next Ustad Shahid Parvez. For sure!

  • Niladri's expertise is in precise fast finger movements between frets, which is attractive to many people. However, he seems rather reluctant or disinterested in exploring meends (string pulling).

  • Niladri does show great interest in meends during his purely classical concerts. The sitar that he plays is made in such a way that he can sustain a meend for much longer than normal.

  • You mean, a closed Jawari

  • well niladri does pull the strings..... watch a few more videos n listen carefully....

  • You have got to be kidding. I have heard him too and we must be listening to two different people. He does this because this is what he is best at.

  • What have you heard him play?

  • I have heard his sitar recordings. Have you heard mine? I will go head to head with him if he dares - on the sitar and zitar

  • I heard Niladri play at one concert and thought that was excellent. Dont know what you have against him except for the fact that his zitar is a gimmick (which I agree with)

  • Nothing else. We agree

  • Listen it is about this. Even George Harrison apologized for his use of the sitar at times to Ravi and he had more than 3500 plays on You Tube. My point is this - Harrison apologized because he KNEW that people would think that sitar sounds twangy FOREVER - just like on Norwegian Wood (good song, bad sitar) When I play with people outside of classical I always hear "Wow I have never heard a sitar sound like that. You know, long sustains, not twangy!" I tell them most sitars have long sustains

  • I ran out of text. It is about something bigger than one person. It is about rectifying the sitar to its right place. People like Shahid Parvez and many others are dog exactly that. I believe that Niladri is doing a dis-service to all sitarists and 1st time listeners. This is my opinion. I have nothing against him. This video of Ajay is REAL sitar. Beautiful. And look its a studio as well,

  • Whats with the Ego? Good for you! He's not a sitar player he is a sitar MAKER! so calm down bud.

  • Not recordings - just some performances that I quickly turned off to listen to Nikhil or Shaihid or Shujaat or Rais or Nishant or Ravi or Vilayat or Imrat or Abdul-Halim or anyone else besides a gimmick player- . But mostly I practice. And why do I you ask? you have some personal stake in this?

  • You are right sir

  • I have been searching for this instrument for two years now, got the contact of rikhiram's shop, but whats the cost of this sitar? can anyone say that.

and I must admit that this yaman recital is as good as the ovation sitar is...

    regards

    RD

  • it was Rs. 25000 two or so years ago. But that was probably because of my english accent and a camera around my neck. I suppose if I had negotiated in hindi, I could very easily have bargained it down to 16-17k.

It's great for the travelling sitarist, and for jamming with Jazz,Blues etc, but i won't recommend it to any sitar beginner.
