  • I can understand why someone would want to be there for the non believer soldiers. Sure why not? It's hard not being part of a group so to have a group of your own like minded people around to talk to about things can be very helpful. I don't see what all the fuss is about!

  • A person with common sense would recognize that Atheists should not be Chaplains.

  • "Chapel" comes to English via French from the Latin cappella which means LITTLE CAPE, a reference to the cape of St Martin of Tours and by extension to the building in which it was housed. The cappellanus (whom we call the chaplain) was simply the janitor who looked after the cape. Sure he would have been clergy but in the Middle Ages that wasn't uncommon. This priest needs to get his story straight but first (for goodness' sake!) he needs to GET A REAL JOB (janitor?) AND STOP BEING A PARASITE!

  • An atheist place of worship is a science lab.

  • See a Therapist... ?

  • Holy Shit, the guy on the right is 'Clayton Morris' who appears on TWIT. Lost all my respect for him.

  • Ironic... a "FATHER" with no kids saying the title of chaplain doesn't make sense for an atheist.

  • The development of spirituality has no place in the military.

  • Father Morris was a member of the Legions of Christ which was founded by a pedophile and a womanizer who stole countless millions of dollars from gulliable suckers

  • God that guy was stupid!

  • Being active duty in the military, I wish we had an atheist chaplain. 90% of the time they're used for "life" and counseling purposes, not religious purposes. Hell rename them "counselors" for all I care. I would actually seek appointments with an atheist chaplain, just to discuss life and beliefs; however, if I talked to a traditional chaplain, I would take away nothing but his beliefs which are silly to me.

  • The Fox woman gets points for noting that semantics and etymology are irrelevant to the issue. The other tards, of course, ignored that, as Reason is never an excuse to stop pressing an argument that justifies a favored predetermined conclusion. This is Fox afterall - they have expectations to meet! At Fox, when atheists & secular humanists ask for an equal shake, that means it's time to pour on the hate. Seriously, how dare they! They just want to *degrade* everything. They're troublemakers!

  • "... then our country is saying that we are not willing to stand up for what we believe to be a very good thing for our soldiers, and that is the development of spirituality." WTF? This priest has been on Fox for years, and everytime he opens his mouth, he says something stupid. "then our country is saying that we are not willing to stand up for what we believe to be a very good thing for our soldiers" - what utter fucking nonsense.

  • (cont)

This bozo outta consider that the purpose is to help soldiers deal with their mortality - something very much at issue for them as soldiers. They potentially face the most horrible things imaginable, including their own early violent deaths. The military provides this service because the soldiers NEED it - not as a tax payer funded encouragement of their spirituality. This priest is a true moron. The soldiers, both believers and otherwise, NEED it, so why deny it to the non-believers?

  • How on earth can a Catholic priest be a humanist? Surely by definition he values divinity over human reason?

  • How do christian chaplins square the commandment "do not kill" with a soldiers duty to kill the enemy? I stayed as far away as I could from chaplins when I was in. I only knew one devout christian in the server and he was generaly depised for being a hypocrite.

  • "They're not well represented..."

Because people like this kiddie fiddler block our representation.

  • Classic example of atheists being trolls. They want to council people, be a counselor not a religious chaplain. Lol

  • It is none of their business why someone wants that role. But how is it not discriminatory to not allow an atheist a role such as this outside of the role of an actual church? You can think it's stupid, fine, but you can't truthfully deny that it would be discriminatory.

  • Why are chaplains responsible for the spiritual development? They can't do it themselves? Oh I see, American christians, right, oooooh silly me !!

  • ChaplainC, chaplain-C-!

    ChapLAIN, chapLAIN!

    Excellent point pastor.

  • these fucks will shoot down anything that has the potential to make there stupid fucking religous bullshit look like stupid fucking religious bullshit

  • Religions are bullshit, there is no "god", end of the debate.

  • This guy believes that spirituality is only possible through the acceptance of god. Is this true? Who says so? Hmmmmm ok lets stop asking good questions and accept the primitive words of a book created starting 3500 years ago.

  • Who gives a fuck?

  • We could just fire all the chaplins.. on a ship that's an extra berthing for a warrior/operator/leader.

  • He just wants to get out of cleaning the squad bay on sunday mornings.

  • Did this guy really just say he was a humanist? Where is this guy getting his definitions from?

Humanism: an outlook or system of thought attaching prime importance to human rather than DIVINE OR SUPERNATURAL matters.

But then again this is FOX news, of course they wouldn't have a rational, intelligent person on the air.. I mean they gave Bill O'fuckingRiley his own show..

  • U heard here folks. Chaplains are religious figures and are in the military which is a federally run thing. Separation of church and state prohibits this. Y is this still going on?

  • Also, that guy doesn't know what "Humanist" means.

  • That would be awesome to have an Atheist chaplain.

  • every time I see a Priest these days.I think of screaming children.

  • this is totally not discrimination at all.

    totally.

  • fox is fair and balanced everyone. lets have a priest give his take on an religious issue. just wondering, are there any athiest fox news religious contributers???

  • We, don't have anywhere to go as Atheists in the military - we are essentially outcasts in a military which defends a secular constitution (with freedom to practice religion if so desired). If we have any issues we're directed to religious chaplains who usually tell us we need to accept or convert to their belief system before they can truly help us.

    It's quite sad actually...

  • Good men do good deeds, as evil men do evil deeds. Religion causes a good man to do evil deeds in the name of his imaginary friend.

  • I'm atheist but eh doesn't seem like a good idea, using atheism to make a point like this is bad publicity for atheism in general, not that i care what irrational religious nuts think anyways.

  • the chaplain isn't focused on the worship part as much the sanctuary. many atheists in the military are blacklisted among other soldiers. to be around those who view the world as you do is always comforting.

  • What's even more disturbing to me is that on a global tv network , no one seems to bat an eye when they all refer to that obnoxious , bigoted , delusional , self righteous , little turd of a man as "Father" !

  • what a stupid soldier ......... its the same with all Atheists..... lack in common sense......

  • @azzkhicker u dont have enough common sense to know Christianity is a fraudulent institution

  • @martystreets u fuckin IDIOt...... how would you worship god if you dont believe in god.....?huh?

  • "So then father, how do you square the 6th commandment with army chaplaincy"

  • This priest is SUCH a bigot. He's basically saying that atheists do not have any spirituality. That is utter nonsense. Its just that theists don't need the supernatural to attain spirituality, morals, humanism, that's all. Without religion, good men will still do good things, as will evil men do evil things. But if you want good men to do evil - then you need religion.

  • @0933062

Edit note; I meant "Its just that atheists don't need the supernatural"

  • "Interesting debate". Where was the debate? I only heard one side from the priest with the mindless hosts agreeing with him. Damn liberal media, not giving us both sides and letting us decide. God bless Fox News.

  • What dumb fuckers. Fuck Them and their discriminatory beliefs.

    Atheism forever.

  • @MoviesFromG Asshole everyone knows Chuck Norris created God

    Fucking atheist idiots

  • @AccessDenied55 I hope the "fuck Atheists" was a sarcastic joke.

  • @MoviesFromG Im kind of a Christian Troll...I enjoy trolling Atheist because they pull a bunch of bullshit facts out there ass XD

  • @MoviesFromG hahahhaah u mad u fukcin fagot hahahah

  • @brentwhitehead

    "About brentwhitehead's channel

    WHITE POWERRRRR"

Yea, your opinion don't mean shit.

  • @musicplayah im a troll cuntfuk

  • @brentwhitehead Move out of your mom's basement you fascist cunt.

  • @MoviesFromG HAHAH fukin dumb atheist u mad .. HAHAHHHAHHA fukin dumb faggot go move to Sweden or someshit this is CHRISTIAN COUNTRY BITCHESS!!!! kk in all serious ness im just trolling you,,,, its w,e

  • @brentwhitehead Well quit it you're wasting your time.

  • @MoviesFromG mann its jus retardsss.... who make no sence.. theres nothing wrong with being religious n believing in god as long as you treat people the way u want to be treated

  • Arrrg!

  • @MoviesFromG move out of your moms basement you cunt

  • @MoviesFromG fuck all there discriminatory beliefs sounds kinda prejudice. you are hating people for what they believe. hate religion for the right reasons. I do, mainly because it cast a shadow on us for roughly 500 years ,aptly named the "dark ages". You cant hate them because they are intolerant, unless you are immune to contradiction. in that case you should have no problem with going back in time and killing your grandpa.

  • @MLGxxPr0Sn1P3rXB3AST They believe that because I don't think a fairy tale is true that I deserve to be tortured for an eternity. That is not something I can respect.

  • @MoviesFromG I understand your dislike of there system of belief. I understand how an atheist cannot differentiate myth from religion. But they don't have malicious intent, at least most of the time. In there minds they are not hoping you go to hell, they are hoping you get on there side so you can go to heaven. It is very wrong to, especially in a derogatory manner as you have done, to disrespect someone because they believe something different. Try to be a respectful athiest.

  • @MLGxxPr0Sn1P3rXB3AST Look, nearly every one of my friends is religious. I want the best for them too, but it is crazy to say that they respect us. NBC or something did a poll on the most hated/mistrusted people in America. Guess who was number 1? Atheists, at about 50%. Half of the people in America hate me.

  • @MoviesFromG I actually don't know who did it, but I read it on the NBC website I think.

  • @MoviesFromG I am going to end this by saying, it's really hard to be humble sometimes. Especially with religious people. As an atheist, you are a contender of rationality, reason, and virtue. Please use it appropriately. Just disregard their opposition. I am sure it has not come to the point where you get physically assaulted because of your stance. Atheist get so much bad press because they are inconsiderate and rude. Please don't follow in suit with those assholes.

  • @MoviesFromG fuck u

  • What is wrong with these people? How can anone be opposed to counselors for non-believers serving their country? Do they not deserve the same privileges as religious soldiers? Damn, Amerca is backwards!

  • There also is ZERO evidence that there is a hell, Leprechons, Unicorns, Fairies and Santa Claus. Of course you will demand proof of their nonexistence?

Intelligent adults have overwhelmingly concluded that FACT is what we KNOW, not what we DON'T KNOW.

We don't know that there is a God. The existence of God therefore is NOT a dact. You can wish, hope and dream, but that makes none of it TRUE.

Billions have lived and died and are still dead. That's life. Live with it!

  • Is he trying to bring that hairstyle back? Well sort of "back", like some obscure trend in the 80s.

  • He gets so angry so fast. What a cretin. The female correspondent makes solid points, the priest changes the subject. This "political point" is an important one. Giving access to guidance only to the religious is favoring one belief system over another. How is this not an obvious violation of the Establishment Clause?

  • End the Chaplain program and then commission councilors. I"d be happier. Maybe we could get some real work out of them.

  • How is 'spirituality' (a politically correct version of delusions) good for soldiers? Let's take a Xtian soldier and an atheist one. Who do you think will fight harder in order to cling to the only life they have? A Christian thinks he's going to Heaven if he gets shot, but for the atheist - a headshot, and the game's over.

  • Considering that the word "chaplin" has to do with worshiping Go, and that atheist hate God and all that He is and stands for, the only kind of Chaplin atheists are fit to be would be in Anton Lavaye's church of satan.

  • Dear Father Priest: I find the term "military chaplain" to be an oxymoron. So... god wants priests to convince soldiers that killing is OK, because Jesus was a huge fan of war.

As far as atheists wanting to advise troops (and some troops are atheists) on matters of spirituality and morality, you are pretty closed minded not to understand why they might like to do this.

  • It is hilarious to see how the Christians react as they lose the choke-hold they have had on our culture, government, and military.

  • Why did you post this pathetic display of ignorance? They didn't even allow any dissenting view points, just a bunch of idiots agreeing with each other.

  • Religious people are stupid... Fox News is stupid... Two negatives make a stupid.

  • father "its a sanctuary OR a place of worship......A PLACE OF WORSHIP" I find it hilarious that he gives the definition and then ignores half of it. its a sanctuary, a safe place, why cant atheists have that?

  • @guitarheroguy12 - so I guess the priest thinks the battlefield is a place of worship? huh? It's the crusades all over again!

  • OBVIOUSLY father isnt much of a "humanist" if he thinks that atheists/non-believers dont need/cant have guidance in the armed forces unless you believe in a supernatural being

  • """Paid as a chaplain ?""" sorry, "chaplain" is not a pay grade

  • "Father" Jonathon Morris is clearly a money grubber. All he did was make this about the Chaplaincy "organisation" and not about the many Atheist military personnel who guard him while he sleeps.

    Hawk that book, Morris.

  • So everybody should have a counsler in the militatry, except those who does not believe in a fantacy man in the sky

  • Chaplain doesn't sound like a word anymore -__-

  • spirituality doesn't have to have god

  • I don't really care if they're atheists and they want spiritual guidance. They can do whatever they feel like, they're fighting for my life!

  • Once again the religious whacks claiming dominion over helping and healing. How about just caring w/o a fight over who gets credit.

  • I think that priest is the Anti-Christ...

  • Can you imagine being in desperate need of spiritual guidance and someone who is a non-believer is looking to counsel you? Thats funny.

Better yet. How do you respond to God if you witness people dying while worshiping him? Hmmmmmm

I could go on, but you get the point, right? I mean, you all do realize there is no sky daddy..........Riggghhhhhht?

  • CHA PLIN

  • the funny thing is most of these foxtards will say father boydidiller is not a real christian so as he's not around.

  • Atheist need their own place in the military chaplancy, If it were the other way around, religius people would ask for a space in the military and they would shame people to give them to them, now the times are changing, we see a rise tenfold of atheist and humanist people, people who just want to say STOP to all this imaginary gods bullshit.

  • Religious believer: "ATHEISM IS A RELIGION!!!!"

Atheist: "um...no..but okay sure....let me be a chaplain"

Religious believer: "WHAT? YOU CAN'T BE A CHAPLAIN!!!"

Atheist: " But didn't you just say atheism is a religion"

    Religious believer: "...."

  • @TheLuckySaGe

That's only funny to an atheist. Why, because they're the only ones who "BELIEVE IT"...hahahahaha. . .ha . . ha .hmmm

  • It's just unbelievable that they had a catholic priest weigh in on this subject and be the only representative. Why didn't they have an atheist or a secular humanist on the board to talk about it? Fair and balanced my ass!

  • "God wants you happy" reminds me of the Simpsons Halloween episode where Flanders was the ruler of all.

  • I think he is right. The atheist should not be a chaplain. They should disband the chaplaincy and have an all inclusive place for soldiers to go.

  • I will give some credit to religion. Their support system is a good thing. Atheists also need that outlet. And if someone wants to standup for that privilege for non believers he should be given the same resources.

  • @Hobagification Agree. Equal access ftw.

  • some atheists are an embarrassment.

  • I wonder if the church would let an atheist be a priest. Say it was an attractive, young, intelligent individual, who had all the necessary requirements, and who had the intentions of doing their job properly and teaching what he or she should for every mass - would a church be allowed to discriminate based on belief? I think that would violate people's right not to be discriminated agains based on religious belief.

  • the title is stupid, im an atheist

  • When I first entered the Air Force I was going through some problems...I was offered the help of a Chaplin. I took it. I was insulted...I ended up getting no help in the end, and had to get through it on my own. I've been saying it for YEARS...the military needs better mental health people...and it starts with psychologists, not religious chaplins.

  • @PUGS1688 Yes, I agree with you too. People need professionals not ministering.

  • I knew the second I heard there was a person of religion speaking that he would be speaking in a very literal way. Unfortunate that he can’t speak of his own religion in the same way.

  • Chaplaincy is a vital component of military life. See, all military personnel are directly participating in religion by bringing people closer to God. Regular soldiers are bringing people of different religions closer to God through a process called: Directly Embedding Bullets into Other People.

Then those people get to see their God.

    See?

  • This guy is just arguing the semantics of this.

  • When I was in the military, I was lucky to have a chapalin that was very nondenominational, nonthelogical in his approach. Many soldiers are not that lucky and are not able to get the supportive services they need without being preached to. The idea that one must be a believer in supernatural beings and dogma in order to pursue ethical living is utterly ridiculous.

  • @untamedshrew69 i'm just going to comment that I absolutely appreciate that final sentence in your comment. So many people can't think for themselves (while living in the shackles of their hereditary, religious morality) and, upon being asked to, deny that thought without god can exist in any moral state: good, bad, or in between. This is shameful.

  • There are a lot of non-believers in the military, this would simply give them somewhere to turn too, for someone to talk to rather than the religious chaplain.

  • Why do people want to believe in fairytales?

  • 1 He should be called a Realist.

i assume there are no Christian army chaplins, Thou shall not kill and all.

  • So, in other words, if you're in the military and you're rationale minded, atheist, then you get no coaching on your feelings of meditation. 130 different religions, and they can't get somebody for the atheists? What bunk.

  • Comment removed

  • he's such a liar. chaplain comes from the latin CAPELLA which means CAPE. the term comes from a story about a soldier who sliced his CLOAK to give to a stranger for comfort.

  • And I HATE how he articulates certain words as if it adds substance to his nonsense. That little imp.

  • Morris is such a fake and also a cunt.

  • Fake. Fox News doesn´t have friends.

  • The government isn't allowed to promote one approach to ethics or spirituality over the other. Secular ethicists should be allowed the same powers as a chaplain in the US military. More so for the unionization of atheists in the military since non-christians can be bullied by Christians, they require a representative. I don't think they need a central leader for ethical advice, we are free thinkers after all.

  • Illustrative of the nonsensical crap going on in the USA in general....the "guest" is a fucking moron and the hosts were pyschophants....no wonder the USA is the laughing stock of the civilized world.

  • @RayThaw

True. Unfortunately the cure isn't as easy as the diagnosis.

  • I don't think atheist should be Chaplains. It makes no sense, since it is not a religion. The religious do think that they hold some sort of special place in society when they don't. The religious should not be held in more regard than anyone else in American society. As far as our Constitution is concerned all are equal, but that is not the case when it comes to secularist. Not one secularist is serving in congress, at least not one who openly proclaims to be a secular humanist or Atheist.

  • @jrwilson98 If the definition of the chaplaincy includes ministering to the spiritual needs of the military--in a nondenominational way--then secular humanism/atheism should be represented. Also, Pete Stark, Congressman from California.

  • @invisblchzbrgr Atheist by virtue of not believing in any particular god have no spiritual needs. Some Atheist are spiritual i.e. Buddhist, so one might need ministering to their Buddhist belief's. I am an Atheist and I served in the Military and I had no need for chaplaincy ministering to me. How could a chaplain minister to an Atheist, except by trying to convert them.

  • This isn't just a "political point." Non-religious privates and officers should be able to talk to someone when they are under stress. If they want to talk to a psychologist, fine. If they want to talk to a non-religious "chaplain," fine. Who cares?

    Only the religious people care.

  • In this comment section, neckbearded atheists say:

    MY OPINIONS ARE FACT.

  • Thomas "Tom" Paine from (1737 to 1809) was one of the Founding Fathers of the United States, his book was notorious for The Age of Reason that advocates deism and promotes for the reason of free thinking and argues against institutionalised religion and Christian doctrines. Lets not forget about the 300 year Flat Earth Inquisition when millions of people were dyeing for our Religious Freedoms on a 100,000 Burning Crosses.

  • Wow.....Why does it feel like Americans are turning into the nazi's.... This is AMERICA DAMMIT.

  • I didn't even hear that the military had a chaplaincy organization until now, even though I'm joining the military next year. Wow. Totally mindboggling.

For what reason does the military need a chaplaincy? Silent, private prayers are fine. And that should be the extent of religiosity in the military, period.

  • Fair and balanced , MY ARSE !

  • If there was a thing called god why would he want people to fight about anything this is what I think

  • that blonde woman was pretty attractive.

  • @MyDude1991 I find stupidity quite unattractive, but thats just me..

  • So instead of actually bringing on the person in question who wants to setup the atheist chaplaincy, they get a religious figure to explain (read: strawman) his position and dismiss it. Stay classy Fox News..

  • @92asdfghjkl Atheists do not need the kind of "services" your thinking of. But the chaplain serves as a psychologist as well. That would be something they need.

  • Fair and balanced huh? Theocracy is right around the corner in the USA. I dread the day.

  • @whhardiek1972 Pretty soon fox news will hire fucking Pat Robertson. Fox News CBN lite.

  • This is a great "debate this morning"

  • To summarize the point in the video:

    [semantics], therefore [irrelevant conclusion].

  • I love how fox news provided someone to debate this from "both" perspectives... Oh wait.. Fox news where stupidity inbreeds stupidity.

  • If God doesn't exist, then how does the boop bop zibbity bop?

    Atheists: 0, Christians: 0, Bill Cosby: 1.

  • I guess an 'atheist chaplain' is like 'gay marriage'. Whats next? Meat eating vegetarians?

  • He doesn't like the name & other than that... it's all about the money.

  • Truthfully, I don't think atheists need chaplains. What the hell would they do? Tell us about the evolution of whales after we've been shot? He is right about the lack of representation and the beration we have to deal with, I think the military needs to do away with chaplains.

  • Why in the hell are there religious leaders paid for by the US tax payers?

  • Actually 'chaplain' comes from a word meaning 'clergyman'. But that's irrelevant. There should be no state run religious chaplaincy (the qualifier 'relgious' is not tautological here, as chaplaincy has assumed a secular meaning also). The way that he dismisses the captain's complaint is based only on the idea that christianity should monopolise chaplaincy. Presupposing chaplaincy, the idea that the non-religious would be excluded is inhumane. Anyway, there should only be secular chaplaincy.

  • Haha. Religious nuttys

  • what about charlie chaplin?

  • "Fair and balanced" yeah right.

  • ONLY fux news would cover this

  • @Luis568369 Its their duty to cover this story if you do not like dissent then move to iran

  • I blieve this man has a point. I don't want to organise "atheisim".

I just want to stop the church from dictating our laws.

  • @TheMrgoku1985 which church is dictating our laws exactly lol

  • @freedombase

You have catholic organisations that don't pay taxes trying to make birth control pills and PRIVETLY funded abortion illegal. Evangelical organisation pushing for unfalsified creationism in public schools.

  • Wow Its all you hear now is all about the military. Invade and kill. Its all about Jesus Guns and Money.
