@miloesskater This was my main harp in that time. I played a lot in A and it was my only A harp. This year in march it got terribly out of tune on hole 4 draw and the reed finaly broke. But the rest works fine :)
Hi, i'm looking for a harmonica to play the song Keep on Chooglin' of Creedence Clearwater Revival. So, when i listen to you, i think that's the correct harmónica, Yes?
@johnluchomono Yes, I thnik it can be played on A harp in II position (song is in key of E I suppose). And Marine Band Deluxe is one fine harmonica. I've checked the song on one of Creedence's gigs on youtube. Glad you like them, It's a really great band! Fortunate Son is, I think, my favourite tune of them.
@HarmonicaPL Ok, thanks so much. CCR is really a great band (my favorite) and one of my favorite tunes is Born On The Bayou (pure swamp sound...). I'm beggining in harmonica, so when you say II position, i guess it means the mouth position, yes?
And one more question: Is Hohner Marine Band (1896) useful too? (because Deluxe is not avalaible in my town (Chlie)). Thank you very much!
Hey! G is the lowest of standard keys, but A is only one tone above. The keys goes in following order: G, Ab, A, Bb, B, C, Db, D, Eb, E, F, F# and the scale might be extended to some point in both directions as lower or higher pitched keys. So A is also one of the lowest keys.
Hi! All of these harps are fine for me. You can listen to them in my other reviews (unfortunatelly only in Polish, but the sound is there). The classic MB has the best tone for me and it's fair easy to play. People say, that it may swell because of moisture, but mine hasn't got any of this issue. The Deluxe version is fully sealed and easy to maintain, also great souning and very easy playing. BH is also quite a good harp, with different, but pleasurable tone. All are good to my mind.
Thanks for your reply, What do you think are the differences between the Marine band deluxe and the special 20? Specifically I mean playability and Tone, not build.
No problem. Tonal and playability differences? I've got a Special 20 review (unfortunatelly Polish only) so you can hear how does it sound. The tone is warmer and more muted due to the closed cover plates designed. Marine Band Dx is brighter and I think louder (vents on the sides of the cover and more open design). Playability is great in both of them. Easy bending, overblowing, fast reaciton. Both give you a huge control over your playing, but SP20 is better for you lips due to the plastic comb.
It depends on your taste. Special 20 has a warmer tone, due to closed covers. Sounds very bluesy, but Marine Bands got brighter tone, also suitable for blues. Both, MBDx and Special 20 play easy and effortlessely.
Deluxe is fixed with screw instead of nails so you can disassemble it for example for cleaning. It has more open covers so it's louder and the comb is sealed to prevent swealing. The classic doesn't have it. Classic is for about 20$ and Deluxe 35$ or more.
Hi! I didn't have a chance to play on a Solist PRO, but I have normal Seydel Solist (one of my Polish reviews) and as far as I can say, reaction is the same or even a bit better than on the Marine Band Dx. It has a bit warmer tone and gives you a lot of control. But in the basic model the comb isn't sealed to well (but I've heard that PRO is sealed perfectly). Summimg up, both models are great instruments, easy to play and great sounding, but the basic Seydel (not Pro) is far more cheep than Dx.
As far as sound, tone, and playability goes, the MB and the MB Deluxe are pretty much the same. The nice thing about the deluxe is that it is screwed together. It does also have a sealed comb, and the covers are crimped open a little more. Personally I don't really know if it's worth the extra money. If can't afford it, go for the original, they play the same.
You say that they play the same? I was thinking of a classic MB for my birthday, but I'm afraid of not sealed comb.I've sealed myself a comb in Seydel Solist, but it was screwed and easier to maintain. But the most important factor is the TONE :).
Yeah, they play the same. The comb isn't sealed, but I've never had any problem with swelling. If use a whole lot of tongue blocking or get a lot of saliva in the harmonica you may have problems, but it's easy to deal with. If the comb's teeth start to swell at the ends, simply use a razor to scrape the ends until they are once again flush with the reed plate. It is nice that you are easily able to unscrew the deluxe to adjust reeds and what not, you just have to decide if it's worth the price.
the bending doesn't sound great...is that true that with hohner marine band is difficult to do the bending, and it doesn't sound good?????? please answer it me =) thank you, from Argentina =)
Doesen't sound great you say? To my ear bends are nice on this harp, easy to do and control. Maybe not the masterpiece, but correct and the tone isn't bad. I know that this overblow sounded like crap, but the bending is ok to me :). I like Hohner Harps (mostly MBDx), but it's the matter of personal preferences. I've visited your profile. Keep up the good work, because women and harps mach fantastic to each other :). Best wishes!
I haven't played it, but it's built quite different. Classic MB doesn't have so wide cover openings what makes it more quiet, also the comb is not sealed wich reduces airtightness and may cause problems with swealing. Also the Classic is assembled with nails, not screws, what makes it difficult to maintain.
Yep, you're right. Those Deluxes are expensive (but I think that in Poland they cost less than 55$). Also, those mods should be provided a long time ago, without creating so a high price. But nothing will change that MBDx are simply good harmonicas.
You're right! Pisses me off too! And another thing--why should I have to pay #35 dollars for a harp that pulls my moustache and cuts my lips--don't these Honer dudes know which part of the body plays these things?
In this video I show a Marine Band Deluxe. In the other one (sorry, only Polish version) I present a Hohner Blues Harp MS (to my mind it's a nice harmonijca), which is totally different harp than Hohner BLUES BAND.
