  • If you want to root your nc safely and simply google auto rooter

  • I'm so confused! I don't speak computer! I just want to get angry birds for free on my NC! What should I do?

  • @SopranoVictoria Visit the link in the description. If you can't follow the directions, you could always buy a pre-made, bootable SD card on Amazon, but that would cost a lot more than paying B&N for Angry Birds.

  • the nook color already does run a veesion android, or atleast i think it doe,im typing this on a nook color right now

  • @dutybs3ckz Stay in school.

  • CM7 is still the way to go, but work on CM9 (Ice Cream Sandwich) is underway.

  • God your video technique is making sick. Stop moving feekan camera.

  • howdy~ thanks for the skinny - much appreciated. i've spent the last 18 hrs watching youtubes, reading blogs/posts/forums, following links, etc trying to nail down which is the best way to get my NC capable of storing all the 400+ ebooks i got from amazon (after i'd already bought the NC I.), but i'm stuck at which is the best WinImag download - i've got nook color 1.3- am i to understand it makes a difference what OS, etc my laptop's running on & that determines what winimag i should download?

  • @verbalkungfu i used win32 diskimager, worked great on my windows 7 64 bit OS.

  • does honycomb still work if you take out sdcard

  • @1997shadowbc if you install the zip to the nook's internal memory.... yes. in fact, a "bootable" clockworkmod image written to the sd card, install the google apps and HC or cm7 to internal memory, reboot, take out the sd.... android tablet. now i use a 32 GB micro sd (class 4) works well.

  • By the time you posted this video, Nook color had Honeycomb running on it with all of the features (including the android market, and Bluetooth). Being completely functional, and being able to be flashed to the internal memory to work as a normal rom. Honeycomb for the nook was fully functional in February, long before this video was posted. Just to inform you that it does work on the nook color.

  • @DeHavenac Someone clearly didn't watch the video or read the info or linked forum thread. The Honeycomb builds for the NC are hacked together from the app developers' package, not built from source. As such, they have some built-in limitations, which will never be overcome because no one is working on those builds. If it's more important to you to have an OS called "Honeycomb" than to actually have the most advanced and complete OS for your device (CM7), by all means run one of the HC demos.

  • @TheTaosaur dont see y anyone would waste their time watching a shitty video, honeycomb works find on nook, nuff said

  • @MoreTails No it doesn't it lacks proper hardware acceleration and the UI is laggy as shit. It might work but it's not a daily driver.

  • HIGH RISING TONE. UGH.

  • Yes don't honeycomb root the nook...use CM7 it runs faster and it's usable. And yes I've done both roots

  • My head hurts from all this knowledge. So what is the purpose of rooting and use another operating system in plain and simple terms?

I enjoy my nook am I missing out on something that my android smartphone doesn't already have? HELP??

  • @penseale If you're familiar with Android and happy with the NC as-is, I'd let it be. You can always make a CM7 SD card if you want to try it out, but most people I've seen who were happy with stock but curious about CM7 end up finding all the options of CM7 a PitA rather than an improvement. For me, the ebook experience and general lack of options in the stock NC felt limiting from the start, and I wanted a platform for exploring Android more, anyway. (cont.)

  • @moarsaur (cont.) I do play games sometimes, which definitely benefit from the larger screen, and there are several apps I would miss going back to stock: File Expert for accessing files on my PC over WiFi, Team Viewer for remote controlling my PC, Dropbox for browsing and downloading several items from a larger collection of files (like ebooks) or making files available on other devices, Google Music beta... The main thing or me, though, is more diverse and customizable reading apps. -Taosaur

  • thanks for the info man. was about to honeycomb root my new NC for my lil sister, but I guess I'll just put the CM-7 Version. thank u.

  • Install miui version of android. It's cm7 based but much better than anything I've seen (I think better than cm7 versions like phiremod etc). Just google android miui.

  • @jstpgms MIUI does seem to be getting more popular on the NC. I haven't tried it, but I'm pretty happy with CM7 as-is. These days I'm dual-booting CM7 nightlies with the latest B&N stock (1.3) using CM7's built-in multiboot menu.

  • were you dancing a little jig while holding the camera??

  • Thankyou for doing you, i really appreciate your tutorial/educational videos. And Thankyou, thankyou for honest yet respectable info. You Tube is definately missing out if you do not make occasional apperances. Peace Be with you ¥ ,

  • thanks for the informative video,, I just got a nook color and was going to go to ebay and get honeycomb,, If I dont feel like the hassle of making card nmyself and go with gingerbread ,, were do you suggest I get a card ready to pop in ? any reputable seller ? thanks

  • @1usalimey nook2android gets good customer feedback.

  • @1usalimey its better to just learn what you are doing imo. plus, 40 dollars for a micro sd card or 30 dollars 32 GB micro sdhc card. it would be like buying an sd card for 50 dollars to homebrew a nintendo wii, when its simply one file to do it in the first place. paying for "hacks" is a scam. a ripoff.

  • @SmokeyBluntRoach oh, my bad...... 40 dollars (35.99, prob. a tax more than likely) for an 8 GB micro sd card setup with cm7, OR, 30-40 dollar 32 GB micro sdhc card with a usb card reader. just say no to the n2a "chip." you'll benefit from doing it yourself in the long run.

  • Hi there, do you recommend using a class 6 sd card for cm7 on the nook color? Since I don't know how to make my own sd card for my nc are there any cards on ebay that are reputable? Would you suggest 2, 4, 6 or 8gb? Thanks in advance.

  • Thank you very much for this. I have CM7 on my Nook and except for the fact that it won't pair with my Rocketfish Bluetooth headphones it's perfect. I've always thought that I should one day update to Honeycomb but I guess I can stop worrying about that. Lol. I'll look into the CM7 updates. Been running mine for 3 months maybe they got the Bluetooth working more. I know they were still working on it when I last checked.

  • @sxgaston If you get your hands on a spare SD card, the Honeycomb previews are worth a look--just don't expect too much (definitely not bluetooth).

For CM7, I'm still on the 3-week-old CM 7.1 RC1, which is working great. The main thing you'll notice is no more battery drain during sleep--you can leave the NC sitting around for a week. The last couple nightlies (since 132) have issues, but 135 should have a lot of fixes. If I see good reports on 135, I'll probably upgrade.

  • Thanks for the info!

  • Hi Taosaur, thnx 4 this video. What SD card would you recommend to run CM7 from ? Also, is there too much of a performance difference if I either run CM on the device itself or from a SD card?

  • @kayamancr There's some variation even between cards of the same make and class, but the most consistent performers have been Sandisk class 2 and 4, 8GB and 16GB cards. A lot of people have good luck with cards from US RadioShack stores. As for performance between SD and eMMC (the internal storage), the jury's still out. It's at least true that you can get very good performance from a SD install.

  • We all know the thumbs-down come from scammers trying to sell their Honeycomb-Root-Class-10-SDs on ebay =D

Or it could be my production values are offensively bad :(

  • If you end up rooting the nook and something backfires, can it be taken to Barnes and Nobles customer service or are you completely screwed?

  • @dominikita619 None of the above? No, customer service probably won't help you fix it, but there's basically nothing you can do to this device that cannot be undone. If you're interested in getting more out of your NC, follow the link in the vid description for resources to help you figure out your options and try some things out without having to root or change anything on the device.

  • Great video

  • Wand google hasnt release honeycomb sdk yet so maybe in the future will be stable not now and when honeycomb becomes stable problaby icecrean comes.out and peiple going to trynto used 2.4

  • Because people don't click "Show more," I'll say here I'm not dissing the people who brought us HC on the NC, just saying it's not ready for primetime, and new users are probably better off with CM7.
